The best chill game depends on what feels restful to you: arranging a room, tending a garden, wandering somewhere new, or solving a small puzzle. This guide groups 40 options by the kind of play they offer—and flags where management, puzzles, combat, or social features may add pressure. These are recommendations, not claims that games treat stress; check your platform’s store for current availability and edition details.
Choose by the kind of break you want
- I want to tidy or decorate: Unpacking or A Little to the Left.
- I want to explore: A Short Hike, Lil Gator Game, or Abzû.
- I want a gentle routine: Animal Crossing: New Horizons or Stardew Valley.
- I want a puzzle: Dorfromantik, Monument Valley, or Is This Seat Taken?.
- I want creative building: Fae Farm, LEGO Voyagers, or Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
“Chill” is personal. Some people like a repetitive task; others prefer open exploration or a puzzle that takes a little focus. A game without a timer can still feel demanding if its goals, management systems, or challenges are not what you want from a break.
Quiet organization and satisfying tasks
1. Unpacking
Across eight house moves, unpack belongings and decide where they belong, gradually piecing together a character’s life. The developer describes it as part block-fitting puzzle and part home decoration, with no timers or scores. That makes it a strong pick for a self-paced task, though arranging objects to your liking is still the central challenge. Unpacking’s official site also lists remappable controls and one-handed options on supported versions.
2. A Little to the Left
Arrange household objects into satisfying patterns. It suits players who like tidying and visual order; the appeal is the arranging itself, so it may be less relaxing if finding a preferred solution feels like pressure.

3. PowerWash Simulator
Clean objects by aiming a washer at the dirt and working through a clear task. GamesRadar’s 2026 editorial list describes it as having no time restrictions. The straightforward goal may be appealing when you want a tactile-feeling activity rather than a story to follow.
4. Unpacking’s alternatives: shop and home management
Discounty asks you to organize and decorate a shop while managing a supermarket and following a community story. It combines visual customization with management, so it is a better fit if running a small business sounds enjoyable than if you want a task with no juggling.
Gentle routines, gardening, and community
5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Build an island community, craft, decorate, fish, and catch bugs. Nintendo’s 2022 roundup presents these as open-ended island activities. Customization and collecting can make a comfortable routine, but an open-ended game can also turn into a list of chores if you feel compelled to keep up with every goal.
6. Stardew Valley
Grow crops, raise animals, explore, and build relationships in Pelican Town. Nintendo’s description makes it a good choice for players who enjoy a repeating farm-and-community rhythm. Farming, exploration, and relationships give you several ways to spend time; the routine may feel like work if you would rather not manage ongoing goals.

9. Ooblets
Collect and grow creatures, then dance with them. Its mix of collecting and creature-centered activities is for players who want a lighthearted routine with a playful twist.
10. Fae Farm
Build a homestead, meet characters, and explore an island alone or with up to three other players, according to Nintendo’s description. Choose it for a blend of home-building and exploration, or for shared play; multiplayer is optional.

11. Bear and Breakfast
Build and run a bed-and-breakfast in a management adventure. The welcoming premise may appeal to players who enjoy designing a place and keeping it operating, but the management element is part of the experience rather than something to avoid.
12. Forager
Gather resources and build as you expand. Progression involves grinding and automation, so it may suit players who find collecting and optimizing satisfying more than those looking for a low-effort, unstructured break.
13. Garden Story
Set out on an adventure as a grape protagonist. It offers a softer presentation than many action adventures, but it is still an adventure game rather than simply a decorating or routine simulator.
14. MySims: Cozy Bundle

18. Lil Gator Game
A gentle-feeling exploration adventure included in Pocket Tactics’ 2026 list. Pick it if you want to roam and play through an adventure rather than maintain a farm or solve a sequence of puzzles.

20. Europa
Explore a lush, terraformed moon as an android seeking answers. It is suited to players looking for scenic exploration with a story premise, rather than a purely open-ended sandbox.
21. A Short Hike’s photo-adventure cousins: TOEM
TOEM is a photo adventure. If the pleasure of noticing a place and taking pictures appeals more than climbing or collecting, it offers a distinct route into exploration.
22. New Pokémon Snap

28. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Its open world lets you choose your direction and explore at your own pace, but combat and survival demands mean it is not uniformly low-pressure. Pick it for self-directed discovery if you are comfortable with those challenges.
29. Untitled Goose Game
Cause comic mischief through open-ended pranks. It is playful rather than conventionally soothing, and the troublemaking may not suit everyone’s idea of a relaxing session.

Puzzles, planning, and building
31. Dorfromantik
Place tiles to build an expanding village landscape. The central activity is an appealing match for players who like calm-looking, spatial puzzles; puzzle pressure is still personal, so it is not automatically relaxing for everyone.
32. Monument Valley
Guide a character through optical-illusion puzzles. It is a strong choice if you enjoy visual problems and perspective shifts, but puzzle-solving still asks for attention.
33. Is This Seat Taken?
Seat characters to solve satisfying puzzles. Its concise premise makes it an easy recommendation for people who want a clear puzzle task rather than an open-world commitment.
34. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Work through self-contained puzzles involving mechanisms and small challenges. It offers a series of compact problems, which can be easier to approach in short sessions than a sprawling adventure.

35. Mini Motorways
Draw roads to keep a city moving. This is a planning puzzle for players who find optimization absorbing; the need to manage a growing traffic network can feel more stimulating than restful.
36. LEGO Voyagers
Tumble, jump, snap bricks together, and build through brick worlds, as Nintendo describes it. Choose it for playful movement and construction, especially if assembling things sounds more inviting than running a farm.
37. Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery
Guide brushstrokes and solve puzzles in an emotional story. It blends a creative-feeling activity with narrative and puzzle-solving, so it may be a better match for players who want both a gentle task and a story with feeling.
38. Strange Antiquities
Nintendo includes this title in its additional cozy-game selection, but that label alone does not establish that it is low-pressure. Check the current store description and puzzle tone before picking it specifically to unwind.
39. Alto’s Adventure
Pocket Tactics includes it in a 2026 relaxing-game selection. Verify the current platform listing before buying or downloading, since availability can vary by platform and region.
40. A creative alternative: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
If building and decorating matter more than solving a defined puzzle, return to Animal Crossing: New Horizons for island customization, crafting, and collecting. Its open goals let you choose a project, though that openness can also invite self-imposed chores.
Check the edition and platform before you start
The 40 games above come from a candidate pool drawn from Nintendo descriptions and 2026 editorial recommendation lists; they are not hands-on reviews, and the titles are not equally calm or available on every platform. Nintendo’s 2022 roundup describes its own selections as having no racing against the clock or rushing enemies; that characterization applies to those selections, not to this entire list. Compare the current store listing for your platform and region, especially for bundles and hardware-specific features.
For Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Nintendo’s 2025 roundup says some Switch 2 features and video chat require a compatible USB-C camera. That is a feature-specific requirement, not a requirement to play every game in this guide. Nintendo’s Switch 2 feature note has the details.

Can a chill game reduce stress?
What feels relaxing varies by person, and the sources for these recommendations do not establish that playing any of the titles reduces stress as a health outcome. Treat “cozy,” “chill,” and “low-effort” as descriptions of play style, not promises of a therapeutic effect. If a game’s routine, puzzles, combat, or social demands stop feeling enjoyable, switching to another kind of activity is a reasonable choice.
