This guide focuses on recurring problems—limited screen size, battery access, protection, connectivity, and storage—rather than padding the list with generic phone accessories.

ASUS lists the 2024 Ally X with an 80Wh battery, 24GB of memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, a 7-inch 1080p/120Hz display, and two USB-C ports. One USB-C port supports USB4, DisplayPort 1.4 output, and USB Power Delivery 3.0, which makes it particularly flexible when paired with a dock, charger, monitor, or external storage. See ASUS’s official Ally X specifications.
Quick picks
| Accessory | Best for | Look for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB-C dock | TV and desktop play | HDMI or DisplayPort, Ethernet, USB ports, and PD passthrough | Less portable than a small hub |
| 65W-plus charger or power bank | Long sessions and travel | USB-C Power Delivery and a properly rated cable | Higher-wattage models cost more; power banks add weight |
| Portable USB-C monitor | Hotel rooms, dorms, and desks | DisplayPort over USB-C, 1080p, good brightness, and separate power | A larger screen can require another power source |
| Ally X case or grip | Protection or comfort | Explicit 2024 Ally X compatibility and clear ports and vents | Some cases no longer fit a dock |
| microSD card or external SSD | Large game libraries | Reliable storage, warranty, and the right interface | microSD is tidy; SSDs are faster to move but need a cable |
There are no universal “best” choices here. A TV player should start with a dock; someone whose main problem is battery life should start with charging equipment; and a user who mostly plays handheld may benefit more from a case or storage than from a monitor.
#1 Best Overall
- NOTE: When the ROG Xbox Ally / ROG Xbox Ally X is connected to the dock, part of the input power is consumed by the dock itself. Using the original 65W or lower PD charger may trigger the message “Not enough power to charge efficiently.” This does not affect gameplay, but charging speed may be slower and overall charging time may be longer. For optimal performance, a PD 100W charger is recommended
- 6-in-1 Docking Station for Handheld: Experience enhanced gaming with 4K@120Hz HDMI output, Gigabit Ethernet, USB C PD charging, USB C 3.2 Gen 1, and dual USB A 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Enjoy crisp 4K@120Hz or 1080@240Hz HDMI output for vivid gaming visuals
- Modular Docking Station: The JSAUX docking station provides dual functionality. Use it with the gaming console directly on the dock, or detach the base for standalone use as a stand, offering flexibility for both desktop and portable setups. The extra silicone pad ensures a perfect fit, enhances stability, prevents slipping, and improves support angles for a better gaming experience
- DIY Customize Your Docking Station: Easily personalize your docking station by adding a custom card between the front cover and the dock. Just remove the cover, insert your card, and snap the cover back on. NOTE: Recommended card size is 3.00" x 1.13" x 0.01" (76.3mm x 28.7mm x 0.3mm). Custom cards NOT included
- Perfect Compatibility: Compatible with ROG Xbox Ally X (2025), ROG Xbox Ally (2025), ROG Ally X, ROG Ally, Steam Deck, Legion Go, Legion Go S, Razer Edge, AYA NEO, AYA ODIN, Logitech G Cloud, and ONEXPLAYER. Supports 100W max power delivery, which is enough to charge your ROG Ally X, ROG Ally, Steam Deck LCD/OLED, or Legion Go at full speed when paired with the original charger
1. A USB-C dock for TV and desktop play
A good dock is the accessory that most dramatically changes how the Ally X can be used. It lets the handheld connect to a television or monitor while also adding controllers, a keyboard, a mouse, Ethernet, and external storage.
A typical connection looks like this:
Wall charger → dock PD input → dock host cable → Ally X
Dock HDMI or DisplayPort → TV or monitor
Dock USB ports → controller, keyboard, mouse, Ethernet, or SSD
For a living-room television, HDMI is usually the simplest choice. For a desktop monitor, DisplayPort can be preferable when you need a particular resolution or refresh-rate combination. The Ally X supports DisplayPort 1.4 over USB-C, but the dock, cable, display, and Windows settings must all support the mode you want. A dock that can output 4K does not mean modern games will run smoothly at 4K on the handheld; it may simply be useful for desktop work, video, or lower-resolution game output.
Dock features that matter
- Power-delivery passthrough: Check how much power the dock accepts and how much it can actually pass to the Ally X after the dock’s own overhead.
- USB-A ports: Useful for wired controllers, keyboards, mice, wireless dongles, and older accessories.
- Gigabit Ethernet: Valuable for large game downloads and stable online play.
- USB-C data bandwidth: Important if you plan to use an external SSD rather than just charge devices.
- Host-cable reach: A short or stiff cable may not comfortably reach either USB-C port, especially when the Ally X is in a case.
- Physical design: The cradle should not cover the exhaust vents, and it should be wide enough for the Ally X with—or without—the case you intend to use.
ASUS lists a first-party ROG Gaming Charger Dock in the Ally X accessory ecosystem. It is the obvious starting point for buyers who value branded compatibility and a simple TV setup, although the current US price, stock, port selection, and exact regional SKU should be checked before publication or purchase. Check ASUS’s current Ally X accessory page.

However, an accessory being marketed for the original Ally or Steam Deck is not proof that it fits the 2024 Ally X. Confirm the exact model, PD behavior, display support, and case clearance.
2. A 65W-plus USB-C charger or power bank
The Ally X does not automatically need a 100W charger. ASUS lists a 65W USB-C AC adapter for the cited configuration, so a reputable 65W USB-C PD charger is the sensible baseline for direct handheld charging. Review ASUS’s detailed power and port specifications.
A higher-rated charger can still be useful. Around 100W gives more headroom when a dock and peripherals are connected, while a multiport charger can power the Ally X alongside a phone, headphones, or laptop. ASUS also lists a ROG 140W USB-C GaN charger among its official Ally accessories; that is aimed at people who want one first-party high-output charger for several devices, not owners who need to replace a perfectly good 65W adapter.
Understand the wattage terms
- Charger rating: The maximum power the wall charger can provide.
- Device draw: What the Ally X actually requests. A 100W charger does not force the handheld to consume 100W.
- Dock passthrough: The power the dock accepts and forwards after accounting for its own electronics and connected peripherals.
- Cable rating: The cable must support the intended USB-C PD level; a high-output charger paired with an unsuitable cable may not deliver the expected result.
Choose USB-C PD, use a reputable manufacturer, and check safety certifications. Multiport chargers may reduce the output available to the Ally X when another port is used, so inspect the output table rather than relying only on the headline wattage.

Now supports ROG Ally X and Legion Go S, giving you more ways to enjoy a seamless big-screen gaming experience. NOTE: Not for ROG XBOX Ally / XBOX Ally X.
- 4K@120Hz HDMI Output (Upgraded): Experience double the refresh rate compared to the previous 4K@60Hz version. Whether you’re battling online or watching cinematic cut-scenes, enjoy buttery-smooth gameplay and reduced screen tearing on external monitors.
- Full-Speed 100W Charging: Supports up to 100W PD charging, easily powering your handheld in Turbo Mode. Keeps your gaming sessions uninterrupted — no need to worry about battery drain even during marathon play. Note: The ROG Ally's 30W Turbo Mode is fully supported, but a 100W charger is recommended.
- Reliable Wired Ethernet: Enjoy a stable and consistent network connection with the built-in RJ45 port, ensuring low-latency performance for smooth online gaming and streaming.
- Expanded Device Compatibility: Now works with Steam Deck LCD/OLED, ROG Ally / Ally X, Legion Go / Go S, and MSI Claw — making it your all-in-one solution across multiple handhelds. NOTE: Not for ROG XBOX Ally / XBOX Ally X.
For travel, a USB-C power bank can extend a session away from an outlet. It is heavier than a wall charger, and its watt-hour rating matters for airline travel, so check the carrier’s current rules before flying. A power bank also cannot guarantee the same performance as wall power in every gaming mode.
3. A portable USB-C monitor
A portable monitor turns the Ally X into a larger-screen setup for hotel rooms, dorms, shared spaces, and small desks. The practical default is a 1080p monitor with USB-C DisplayPort input. Do not assume that every USB-C monitor accepts video: some USB-C ports are charging-only.
The most convenient arrangement uses one USB-C cable for video and power, but the monitor may draw that power from the Ally X and reduce battery life quickly. For long sessions, choose a monitor with a separate USB-C power input or power passthrough and power it from the wall or a battery bank.
Monitor checklist
- USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode: Required for direct video over USB-C.
- 1080p resolution: A sensible match for the Ally X’s 7-inch 1920×1080 internal display and its performance limits.
- Refresh rate: 60Hz is adequate for general gaming and desktop use. Higher refresh rates are most useful for lighter games, esports titles, or Windows use when the handheld can produce the additional frames.
- Brightness and anti-glare coating: More important than a headline refresh rate when playing in bright rooms or travel environments.
- Kickstand: A stable built-in stand avoids adding another accessory.
- Speakers and headphone output: Convenient if the display will be used as a self-contained desk setup.
- HDMI fallback: Useful if you also want to connect a console, laptop, or other device.
You can connect the monitor directly to the Ally X or route it through a dock. Direct USB-C is simpler and uses fewer components; a dock is better when you also need wired networking, USB peripherals, or a charger connection. A monitor with separate power is the safer recommendation because it avoids making the handheld power the entire setup.

4. A protective case or grip designed for the 2024 Ally X
“Case” can mean two different things. A carrying case protects the handheld while it is stored or transported. A grip case stays attached during play and can change comfort, weight, and access to the controls.
For either type, require an explicit fit for the 2024 ROG Ally X or RC72LA. The Ally X has different dimensions and port placement from the original ROG Ally, so a generic “ROG Ally compatible” label is not enough.
Check these details before buying
- Clearance around both USB-C ports.
- Openings for the exhaust vents, speakers, triggers, and thumbsticks.
- Protection for the sticks and triggers when packed in a bag.
- Whether the handheld still fits the dock with the case attached.
- Whether the case presses against the screen or controls when zipped inside a travel bag.
- Enough room for the charger and cables without placing pressure on the handheld.
ASUS lists a travel case for the Ally ecosystem, including the ROG Ally Premium Hard Case line. Confirm that the exact case listing is intended for the 2024 Ally X, and check its interior clearance rather than assuming every Ally-branded case is interchangeable. See ASUS’s listed Ally X accessories.

- Dynamic RGB Lighting & DIY Custom Card Slot: The dock base offers 5 RGB lighting modes—Monochromatic, Breathing, Chasing, Gradient, and Stacking—while the fan features a 7-color gradient mode. Personalize your setup by adding a custom front card (3.00 x 1.13 x 0.01 inches / 76.3 x 28.7 x 0.3 mm). Just pop off the cover, insert your card, and snap it back.
- Wide Compatibility & Turbo Mode Support: Compatible with ROG Ally X, ROG Ally, Steam Deck, Legion Go and Legion Go S. Fully supports 30W Turbo Mode on ROG Ally and Ally X. NOTE: 30W Turbo Mode requires a 100W PD charger to be plugged in (not included) and will not function without it.
A slim grip may improve comfort during long handheld sessions, but it can make docking harder. If you regularly switch between handheld and TV play, treat dock compatibility as a deciding feature—not an afterthought.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches5. A microSD card or external SSD
The Ally X includes a 1TB M.2 NVMe 2280 Gen4x4 SSD in the cited configuration, so removable storage is a convenience upgrade rather than an immediate requirement for every owner. It becomes useful when a Steam, Game Pass, emulation, media, or offline library starts filling the internal drive. Verify the storage configuration on ASUS’s specification page.
Choose microSD for convenience
A microSD card is the cleanest portable expansion: it adds no cable and remains attached while you hold the handheld. A reliable 512GB or 1TB card is a practical target. UHS-I, U3, and A2 markings are useful indicators, but ratings alone do not guarantee identical game performance. Buy from a trusted seller, choose a known brand with a warranty, and avoid unusually cheap cards with unclear provenance.
microSD is particularly convenient for lighter games, emulation, and media. Do not treat it as a guarantee of a particular loading time, and keep backups of irreplaceable files.
Choose an external SSD for transfers and docked use
An external SSD is generally the better option for moving large installations, keeping a docked library, or making backups. Look for USB 3.2 support, a short durable cable, and an enclosure that does not hang awkwardly from the Ally X. The speed advantage is most relevant to transfers and library management; actual in-game loading improvements vary by game, launcher, connection, and configuration.
An SSD is less convenient while playing handheld because it adds a cable and another device that can disconnect if it is left dangling. It is therefore a stronger fit for a desk or docked setup than for walking around with the Ally X.
How to buy in the right order
- Fix your biggest limitation first. Choose a charger or protection if battery life or portability is the problem.
- Add a dock if you play on a TV or use the Ally X as a desktop PC.
- Expand storage when the 1TB internal drive becomes cramped.
- Buy a monitor if you regularly play away from a TV or permanent desk.
- Upgrade comfort with a grip or premium case only if handling is genuinely limiting your sessions.
Do not buy a 100W charger merely because the number is larger, a 144Hz monitor merely because it sounds faster, or a dock merely because it advertises high wattage. Match the accessory to the setup you actually use.

Troubleshooting common problems
The dock works intermittently or shows no picture
- Test the display directly with the Ally X to rule out the monitor or cable.
- Test the dock with the original or a known-good USB-C charger.
- Try the other USB-C port.
- Disconnect every USB peripheral, then reconnect devices one at a time.
- Confirm the monitor’s input source and Windows display mode.
- Update the Ally X BIOS, Windows, graphics driver, and dock firmware where applicable.
If the dock works only after removing the case, treat that as a physical compatibility limitation. Do not force the connector into place.
The Ally X charges slowly while gaming
Check which port on a multiport charger is being used, whether another device has reduced the charger’s output, whether the cable supports the intended PD level, and how much power the dock consumes. A charger advertised as 100W may provide less on the selected port or through a particular dock. Higher capacity is headroom, not a promise that the handheld will draw that amount.
The portable monitor drains the battery
Use the monitor’s separate power input or power it from a battery bank. Also verify that the USB-C connection supports DisplayPort video, not just charging. If the display requires a second cable, that is normal for some models and may be preferable for longer sessions.
The storage drive is slow or disconnects
For microSD, verify its authenticity and warranty. For an external SSD, use a short, reliable USB cable and avoid leaving the drive suspended from the handheld during movement. If a game launcher does not recognize a moved library, reselect the library location in that launcher rather than assuming the files are damaged.
One important warning about accessory lists
Not every list titled around the Ally X is equally useful. A May 23, 2026 article using this topic included categories such as docks and monitors but also presented a 15W wireless phone charger, phone lanyards, a 25W phone charger, and a USB-A-to-USB-C cable. Those products do not form a coherent Ally X accessory shortlist, and a 25W phone charger is especially poor as a primary recommendation for a handheld whose listed adapter is 65W. See the source article’s listed categories and products.
The same caution applies to claims that 100W charging is required, that every dock enables maximum Turbo performance, or that a dock’s 4K output equals 4K gaming performance. Verify the exact charger, dock, firmware, connected devices, display, and region before making those claims.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ROG Ally X need a 100W charger?
No. ASUS lists a 65W USB-C adapter for the cited 2024 Ally X configuration. A 100W charger can provide useful headroom for a dock, peripherals, or multiple devices, but it does not make the handheld draw 100W.

Will any Steam Deck dock work with the Ally X?
Not necessarily. Some may work, but confirm 2024 Ally X compatibility, host-cable reach, display support, PD passthrough, vent clearance, and whether your case fits.
Can the Ally X run a portable monitor with one USB-C cable?
Yes, if the monitor’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort video as well as power. One-cable operation is convenient but can drain the Ally X faster, so separate monitor power is preferable for long sessions.
Is microSD suitable for games?
It can be suitable for many games, emulation, and media, provided you use a genuine, reliable card. An external SSD is generally more convenient for large transfers and docked libraries, but it adds cable clutter.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will a case fit in a dock?
It depends on the case and dock. Check the cradle width, connector clearance, and port alignment for the exact 2024 Ally X case combination.
What is the difference between the 2024 Ally X and 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X?
They are different product families. This guide covers the 2024 ROG Ally X, model RC72LA. Do not assume an accessory advertised for the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X fits the 2024 model.
The Bottom Line
The most useful Ally X accessory depends on your setup: choose a capable dock for TV or desktop play, 65W-plus USB-C PD charging for endurance, a USB-C video-capable monitor for travel, an explicitly Ally X-compatible case for protection, and reliable removable storage when 1TB is no longer enough. Confirm the exact 2024 model and current regional compatibility before buying.
