The best games for Delta on iPhone are not simply the most famous Nintendo classics. They are games that remain readable on a phone, work comfortably with virtual controls, support useful save options, and do not depend on awkward dual-screen or analog-stick input.

Using those criteria, the five strongest choices are The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, and Golden Sun. All five are Game Boy Advance games, so each uses a .gba game file and benefits from the GBA’s single-screen design.

Delta does not include copyrighted games. You must provide compatible game files yourself and should follow the copyright and backup laws that apply where you live. Delta’s official documentation explains supported formats and recommends using a cartridge-dumping tool to create personal backups: Delta’s importing guide.

1. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Best overall choice. The Minish Cap is the most balanced recommendation on this list: it combines exploration, real-time combat, puzzles, dungeons, equipment upgrades, and a structured adventure that works well in short or long sessions.

Its single-screen GBA presentation is a natural fit for an iPhone. You can explore at your own pace, and the game rarely demands the kind of constant precision or complicated input that makes some N64 and DS titles uncomfortable on a touchscreen. Virtual controls are adequate for ordinary movement and combat, although a Bluetooth controller makes fast movement and boss fights easier to manage.

Use a .gba file. Save normally at the game’s save points, then use Delta save states for quick pauses or a convenient backup before a difficult section. Keeping both types of save is safer than relying only on emulator states.

Choose it if: you want an accessible action-adventure game that shows off Delta without requiring a controller.

Nintendo’s official Game Boy Advance catalog identifies The Minish Cap as a GBA title.

2. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Best for strategy and relaxed touchscreen play. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones may be the easiest game here to play entirely with touch controls. Battles are turn-based, so you can take as long as you need to select a unit, inspect the map, and plan the next move. There is no need for precise steering, rapid button presses, or simultaneous inputs.

The campaign offers considerably more depth than a typical pick-up-and-play mobile game. Its grid-based battles also make the iPhone’s touchscreen feel useful rather than merely tolerable.

The important caveat is permanent character death in the game’s traditional rules. Delta save states can provide a convenient safety net, but repeatedly rewinding every mistake can also undermine the campaign’s intended consequences. Keep an ordinary in-game save as your primary record, and use named or clearly organized save states rather than creating a confusing stack of nearly identical states.

Use a .gba file. A controller is unnecessary; the game’s deliberate pace makes it one of the best Delta choices for touch-only play.

3. Mario Kart: Super Circuit

Best for quick races. Mario Kart: Super Circuit supplies the variety the list would lack if it contained only adventures and RPGs. Individual races are easy to fit into a commute, a break, or a short play session, while cups and unlockable challenges provide longer-term goals.

It is playable with Delta’s on-screen controls, but steering, drifting, and item use can feel cramped on a phone. This is the recommendation where a physical controller makes the biggest difference. Delta documents support for wired and Bluetooth controllers, as well as a Hold Button feature that can help with games requiring a button to remain pressed. Delta specifically highlights racing games such as Mario Kart as an example: see Delta’s feature overview.

Use a .gba file. Do not assume that the GBA version has the same online or multiplayer features associated with other Delta-supported systems. Delta’s current materials discuss online multiplayer in connection with compatible Nintendo DS games; that should not be extended to this GBA title.

Choose it if: you want a fast, replayable game and either enjoy virtual racing controls or have a compatible controller.

4. Metroid Fusion

Best action and exploration game. Metroid Fusion is the most demanding touch-control recommendation here, but it is also one of the strongest showcases for the GBA library. Its compact environments, mission-based progression, atmospheric presentation, and exploration make it well suited to mobile sessions.

The game requires more precise movement and aiming than the other four picks. The virtual D-pad and buttons work for many players, but anyone who dislikes touchscreen platforming should use a controller. A controller is recommended rather than strictly required.

Save states are useful before difficult encounters or unfamiliar areas, but they should supplement the game’s own save system rather than replace it. Make regular in-game saves, particularly before updating Delta or moving the game and save data to another device.

Use a .gba file.

Choose it if: you want focused action, exploration, and a more challenging control experience than the RPGs on this list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nintendo’s GBA catalog includes Metroid Fusion.

5. Golden Sun

Best traditional RPG. The original Golden Sun demonstrates why menu-heavy role-playing games work so well on an iPhone. Turn-based battles, dialogue, inventory screens, party management, and puzzle-solving all translate cleanly to touch input.

It is a substantial adventure rather than a game designed only for quick sessions. Landscape orientation is generally preferable because it gives the game image and controls more room, while a clear controller skin helps keep dialogue and menus readable.

Long campaigns make save organization especially important. Use the game’s built-in save system for your primary progress and treat Delta save states as temporary conveniences. Too many states made at similar points can become difficult to identify, especially if you later transfer files or devices.

Use a .gba file. The sequel, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, is also a GBA title and is a natural follow-up once you finish the original.

Choose it if: you want a long-form RPG with turn-based combat, exploration, dialogue, and puzzles.

Nintendo’s official catalog lists both Golden Sun games as GBA titles.

How to add games to Delta on iPhone

  1. Install Delta from the appropriate official source. Delta’s guide documents App Store distribution in non-EU regions and points users in EU countries to AltStore PAL. Start with Delta’s official guide for the current regional path. Distribution and app availability can change.
  2. Create or obtain a lawful backup. Delta does not provide copyrighted games. If you own a compatible cartridge, Delta’s import documentation discusses cartridge-dumping tools such as the GB Operator and notes that similar tools are available. Copyright and backup rules vary by jurisdiction, so follow the law where you live.
  3. Put the file somewhere accessible on your iPhone. The file must be available through iOS’s file picker. Do not assume a particular cloud service is required.
  4. Open Delta and tap the plus button in the top-right corner.
  5. Select the game file in the Files picker. Delta should add a compatible file to the game library.
  6. Choose a skin and orientation. Landscape mode generally gives GBA games more usable space. Try a different skin if the virtual buttons feel too close together.
  7. Test the game before importing a library. Confirm that it launches, sound works, controls are mapped correctly, and the game can create and load an ordinary in-game save.

For this list, the expected extension is .gba. Delta’s official import guide also lists these supported formats:

System File extensions
NES .nes
SNES .smc, .sfc, .fig
Game Boy .gb
Game Boy Color .gbc
Game Boy Advance .gba
Nintendo DS .ds, .nds
Nintendo 64 .n64, .z64
Sega Genesis .gen, .bin, .md, .smd

A supported extension is not a guarantee that every dump, regional version, game, or emulator build will work identically. File quality, core versions, graphics settings, and required auxiliary data can affect compatibility.

Do you need an iPhone controller?

No. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Golden Sun are especially comfortable with touch controls, and most players can play The Minish Cap without extra hardware.

A controller is more valuable for Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Metroid Fusion, where steering, platforming, and rapid button input are more sensitive. It is also often preferable for Nintendo 64 games, which commonly use analog movement and more complicated layouts. Delta’s official materials document wired and Bluetooth controller support, along with keyboard support: Delta feature overview.

Controller-friendly does not mean controller-required. Choose one based on the games you actually plan to play, not because Delta needs one to function.

More games worth trying

  • Pokémon Emerald or FireRed/LeafGreen: strong GBA choices for turn-based exploration and battles. Delta does not supply Pokémon game files.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past & Four Swords: a good alternative if you want a longer Zelda experience.
  • Kirby & the Amazing Mirror: a more forgiving platforming option.
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!: excellent for very short sessions, although rapid inputs may be awkward on a touchscreen.
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga: another strong, menu-friendly GBA RPG.

Delta also supports Nintendo DS files, but DS games can be less comfortable on an iPhone because the two-screen layout leaves less room for each display and touch area. Games such as New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, and Pokémon Platinum are worth considering only if you are comfortable with that compromise.

Delta troubleshooting

The file is rejected or does not appear

Check the extension and confirm that the file is a compatible dump rather than an archive or an unsupported format. For these recommendations, the expected format is .gba. If the file still fails, test one known-good personal backup rather than importing several files at once.

The game appears but will not launch

The extension alone does not prove that the file is usable. A damaged or incomplete dump can appear in the library and still fail to start. Recreate the backup from the original cartridge or consult Delta’s current import documentation.

The screen is black or graphics look wrong

First restart the game and confirm that Delta is current. Compatibility can vary with the app build and graphics settings, particularly on systems such as Nintendo 64. Avoid assuming that a problem with one file represents every game on that platform.

The controls are too small

Switch to landscape orientation, try another controller skin, or connect a wired or Bluetooth controller. Touch controls are most likely to feel cramped in racing, action-platforming, Nintendo 64, and fast-action DS games.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A save state will not load

Save states are emulator-dependent and may not transfer cleanly between devices, files, or future app versions. Make an in-game save before updating Delta or moving files. Do not delete the original game file simply because a save state was created, and remember that a state made from a damaged dump can preserve the underlying problem.

DS games are difficult to use

Try different screen layouts and orientations, but recognize that two-screen games have an inherent space disadvantage on an iPhone. If the game relies heavily on a small touch screen or fast stylus input, a larger display may be more comfortable.

Delta features that matter for these games

  • Save states: useful for quick pauses and difficult sections, but not a replacement for ordinary in-game saves.
  • Hold Button: helpful when a game requires a button to remain pressed, including racing-game situations.
  • Controller support: Delta supports wired and Bluetooth controllers and keyboards.
  • Controller skins: layouts can be customized for different systems and control preferences.
  • Delta Sync: Delta’s official materials describe synchronization for games, saves, save states, cheats, controller skins, and mappings between devices. Exact behavior can depend on the current app version and setup.

Delta is an independent emulator, not a Nintendo product. Nintendo properties remain owned by Nintendo; Delta’s project materials make that relationship clear at its official repository.
