These five games offer distinct takes on shooters rather than recreating every part of Call of Duty.
How to choose a Call of Duty alternative
Call of Duty spans cinematic military campaigns, fast competitive multiplayer, co-op Zombies, and Warzone battle royale. No single alternative on this list covers that same mix. Start with the mode you want, then consider whether you prefer quick respawns, squad coordination, tactical rounds, or a campaign you can play alone.

1. Battlefield 6: best for modern military combat at larger scale
Battlefield 6 is the most direct alternative if you want a contemporary military setting with both a solo campaign and multiplayer. Its named multiplayer modes include Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush, alongside additional modes. EA lists PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and confirms digital and retail availability.

- TACTICAL DMZ OPERATIONS — Deploy behind enemy lines as an off‑the‑books asset, making high‑risk decisions on objectives and extraction in a dynamic mode where every run counts.
You do not need to know the earlier games to get started: Electronic Arts says in its Battlefield 6 FAQ, “You do not need to have played any other Battlefield game to understand or enjoy Battlefield 6.” That makes it a straightforward entry point for players arriving from Call of Duty rather than the Battlefield series.
Choose Battlefield 6 for a military campaign and multiplayer variety, not because it duplicates Call of Duty’s exact pace or modes. If you are shopping for a physical copy, EA confirms retail distribution; check the current PS5 listing and edition before purchasing.
2. Delta Force: best free-to-play military option with extraction play
Delta Force is worth considering if you want military-themed shooting without an upfront game price and are open to modes beyond conventional respawn matches. GameSpot describes large maps comparable in scale to Call of Duty’s Ground War, extraction-style multiplayer, and a squad-focused mode. It also includes a co-op Black Hawk Down campaign.

The cited GameSpot guide listed PC as the then-current platform and described console and mobile versions as forthcoming. Those details are time-sensitive, so check the game’s current store listing for your device and region. Expect a different mix of objectives and squad play from a traditional Call of Duty multiplayer session.
3. Rainbow Six Siege: best for tactical attack-and-defend rounds
Rainbow Six Siege trades Call of Duty’s familiar arcade rhythm for planning, specialist abilities, and high-stakes attack-and-defend rounds. Its strategic matches are the main draw, so it is a strong choice if you want to coordinate with teammates and think through each push rather than rely on constant respawns.
GameSpot points to Team Deathmatch as a respawning way to learn maps and weapons. That can help ease the transition, but it is not the same experience as Siege’s core tactical rounds. Choose Siege for deliberate, team-dependent play—not as a like-for-like replacement for standard fast-respawn Call of Duty multiplayer.

- Call of Duty: Modern Wafare II PS5
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the sequel to 2019’s blockbuster Modern Warfare.
- Featuring the return of the iconic, team leader Captain John Price, the fearless John "Soap" MacTavish, the seasoned Sergeant Kyle "Gaz” Garrick, and the lone wolf himself, fan favorite Simon “Ghost” Riley, players will witness what makes Task Force 141 the legendary squad it is today.
- Some features may require an internet connection and an online subscription
4. Apex Legends: best for team-based battle royale
If Warzone is the Call of Duty mode you most want to replace, Apex Legends is the closest match on this list. It is a squad-focused battle royale in which character abilities shape how teams fight and support one another. That gives matches a distinct identity compared with a grounded military shooter.
Apex Legends is not the best pick if what you want is a realistic military campaign or traditional small-map multiplayer. Its appeal is battle royale and coordinated team play, with abilities as an important part of the fight.
5. Counter-Strike 2: best for competitive tactical gunfights on PC
Counter-Strike 2 is a fit for players who want competitive rounds centered on close-quarter gunfights and teamwork. GameSpot describes it as free-to-play and PC-only in its guide. Confirm current platform support on the official store before making plans around a particular device.

- Game is playable on October 23, 2026. Digital code will be available on September 25th to redeem.
- BONUS 2X OFFER — Purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 at Amazon and receive 5 hours of Double XP.**

- MULTIPLAYER BUILT ON CONTROL — Engage in grounded, precise combat where fluid movement, player choice, and refined mechanics give you greater control in every firefight.
Compared with Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 2 gives up the broader mode mix and arcade rhythm in favor of deliberate tactical rounds. Pick it for focused competitive play, not for a campaign, Zombies-style co-op, or battle royale replacement.
Which game should you try first?
- Want a modern military campaign plus multiplayer? Start with Battlefield 6.
- Want a no-cost military shooter with extraction play? Look at Delta Force, after confirming platform availability.
- Want tactical, coordinated attack-and-defend matches? Choose Rainbow Six Siege.
- Want a squad battle royale like Warzone? Try Apex Legends.
- Want competitive tactical rounds on PC? Consider Counter-Strike 2.
The best match is the one that preserves the part of Call of Duty you actually enjoy. For a broader military game with campaign and multiplayer, Battlefield 6 is the clearest all-round alternative here; for a specific mode or pace, the other choices make more sense.
