“Best” depends on what you want from a game: a layered story, a demanding combat system, or an emotionally intense experience. These five PlayStation picks cover different adult tastes rather than claim an objective ranking. “For adults” here describes the intended audience, not an ESRB rating; check each game’s rating and content descriptors if age suitability is a concern.
How to choose an adult-friendly PlayStation game
Use genre, story, challenge, content intensity and console compatibility to narrow the list. ESRB ratings describe age suitability and content—not artistic merit or whether a game will appeal to adults. The ESRB explains the difference between Mature 17+ and Adults Only 18+ and provides content descriptors that can help you assess specific concerns: ESRB Ratings Guide. PlayStation also explains its rating system at PlayStation ratings.

Five PlayStation games to consider
Baldur’s Gate 3 — for character-driven fantasy role-playing
Platforms: PS5. Choose this if you want a character-led fantasy RPG set in a detailed world. PlayStation’s store listing emphasizes the individual stories of the characters and the Forgotten Realms setting. Its US PlayStation Store page displayed 4.78/5 from approximately 111,000 ratings on October 7, 2026; this is a changeable storefront snapshot, not an editorial score or lasting measure of quality. View Baldur’s Gate 3 on the US PlayStation Store.
Elden Ring — for an expansive world and demanding action RPG combat
Platforms: PS4 and PS5. This suits players who enjoy exploring a broad fantasy world and taking on challenging action-RPG combat. PlayStation describes its story as “multilayered” and told in fragments. The US PlayStation Store page displayed 4.71/5 from approximately 182,000 ratings on October 7, 2026; ratings and counts can change and should be read as storefront feedback, not a definitive verdict. - Experience two playable Spider-Men: Quickly swap between both Spider-Men as you explore an expanded Marvel’s New York. Experience Peter’s new symbiote abilities and Miles’ explosive bio-electric venom powers, and discover upgradeable, high-tech equipment that enhances the combat experience for extensive gameplay depth and variety.
- Battle iconic Marvel Super Villains: Fight against a variety of new and iconic villains, including an original take on the monstrous Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard, and many more!
The Last of Us Part II — for an emotionally intense story
Original release: PS4; playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. Consider this if you want a serious narrative with a strong emotional focus. PlayStation calls it “A complex and emotional story.” The official page notes that the PS4 game benefits from PS5 backward-compatibility improvements, including faster loading and enhanced resolution. This recommendation refers to the original PS4 release; PlayStation also markets a separate PS5 remastered edition, so check the edition carefully when buying. The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation.
God of War Ragnarök — for cinematic action and Norse mythology
Platforms: PS4 and PS5. A strong option if you prefer a story-led action adventure over a sprawling role-playing game. Its official PlayStation page presents it as the continuation of Kratos and Atreus’s Norse saga. Check the store listing for the edition matching your console. God of War Ragnarök on PlayStation.
