For a smoother start in Silent Hill f, tune combat and puzzle difficulty separately, manage stamina and Sanity as limited resources, and do not assume every enemy has to be fought. These tips reflect Konami’s updates through Patch 1.11, released December 9, 2025; check the official notices for changes after that date.
1. Set combat and puzzle difficulty to suit you
Choose the action challenge you want without treating it as a decision about puzzles. The beginner guide describes puzzle difficulty as separate from action difficulty, so you can make combat more forgiving while keeping puzzles challenging, or do the reverse.
Konami added Casual action difficulty in Patch 1.10 on November 13, 2025. You can select it when starting a new game or New Game+. If you are already playing on Story or higher, Konami says Casual becomes available after multiple Game Over screens. See Konami’s Patch 1.10 notice.
2. Treat stamina as a budget
Attacks and dodges both use stamina. Spending the whole bar on repeated swings or panic-dodges can leave Hinako unable to respond when an enemy presses its advantage. Watch for an enemy’s tell, take an opening, then leave enough stamina to evade if needed.
#1 Best Overall
A timed Perfect Dodge can evade an attack while recovering stamina, according to the beginner combat guide. Practice the timing in less pressured encounters rather than relying on a fixed counter window.
3. Spend Focus when an opening is worth the Sanity cost
Focus Attacks draw on Sanity. Because Sanity also contributes to the game’s psychological presentation, it is more than a second health bar. Avoid holding Focus continuously; use it deliberately when the opportunity is worth spending the resource.

4. Check weapon durability before a fight
Melee weapons have a durability meter and can break when it is depleted. Check the meter before committing to combat and use controlled attacks instead of treating a weapon as permanent. The beginner guide does not establish numerical durability values, so there is no reliable fixed number of hits to plan around.
5. Bypass enemies when the route allows it
Not every encounter needs to become a fight. PC Gamer’s September 26, 2025 guide recommends checking corners and alleys, consulting the map, and moving past enemies where the route permits. It also says the Clam Omamori reduces enemy line of sight. That can help with evasion, but it is not a guarantee that every enemy can be avoided.

Encounter placement is different from launch: Konami’s Patch 1.10 notice says it reduced enemy counts in multiple sections and reduced forced combat encounters. That does not mean combat has been removed everywhere.
6. Explore for useful items, then choose Omamori for your need
Use the map to spot routes, information, and items worth checking. Hokora shrines support upgrades and Omamori purchases, so exploring can give you options before you settle into a particular approach.

Examples described in the guides include Omamori that reduce enemy line of sight, prevent interruption while healing, restore some health after an enemy defeat, or reduce durability consumption for light attacks. Think about the problem you are trying to solve—stealth, safer healing, weapon conservation, or support for Focus and Sanity—and choose accordingly. These are options, not a required build.

Do not make avoiding Red Capsules a rule for an ordinary first playthrough. Konami’s Patch 1.11 notice, dated December 9, 2025, describes a New Game+ condition: obtain the front door keys to Shu’s house without using Red Capsules, and later placements are removed, triggering the no-Red-Capsules condition required for certain endings. The notice does not identify those endings by name. Read Konami’s Patch 1.11 notice if you are pursuing that specific condition.

Patch 1.10 added an optional skip after the mural puzzle in New Game+. Konami says the skipped section’s items are not collected and three specified achievements do not unlock on a playthrough using the feature; branching paths and endings are unaffected. If you want those items or achievements, continue through the section instead of skipping it. The full effects are listed in the Patch 1.10 notice.
