1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf you want a larger, more varied arsenal in Skyrim Special Edition, start with Immersive Weapons; if you want new weapon classes and animations, choose Animated Armoury. For a substantial but vanilla-friendly melee expansion, consider Reforging – To the Masses or Heavy Armory. These five picks serve different goals rather than forming a tested, universal top five: the ranking weighs breadth, integration, visual change, and setup complexity. The cited mod pages are for Special Edition, so check the files and requirements for your exact game version before installing. This list covers five well-differentiated options, not ten; the available descriptions do not support an evidence-based ranking of ten.

Counts and feature descriptions below come from the respective mod pages, not an independent comparison. The order is an editorial recommendation based on each mod’s scope and distinctiveness, not a compatibility test.
1. Immersive Weapons: best for a broad, world-integrated collection
Immersive Weapons is the strongest starting point if your priority is finding new arms naturally while exploring rather than simply opening a crafting menu. Its mod page says the collection adds 230 weapons, distributed through leveled lists, vendors, dungeons, and specific people. It also describes the weapons as craftable, upgradeable, and enchantable where appropriate. Those are the authors’ descriptions; the page’s metadata says it was last updated on April 26, 2018, so verify current files and compatibility before treating it as a default choice.
The page’s stated aim is to blend additions into Skyrim’s lore, balance, and feel. That makes this the broad-collection pick, but it does not establish how every item will interact with another mod that changes loot distribution or NPC inventories.

- HIGH REPLAYABILITY: Modular scenarios, multiple quest paths, and varied character builds ensure every campaign feels fresh and every journey through Skyrim is different.
2. Heavy Armory: best for adding weapon types
Heavy Armory is for players who want more than additional swords and axes. Its mod page describes roughly 150 lore-friendly weapons across 11 weapon types, with natural leveled-list distribution and forge crafting. The page also mentions animations for some types and patches.
Its emphasis on additional categories makes it a good alternative to a general-purpose weapon collection. Check the mod’s current files, requirements, and available patches against your game build and load order; the page’s description does not establish that every feature or patch supports every current setup.

3. Reforging – To the Masses: best for a vanilla-friendly melee expansion
Reforging – To the Masses focuses on melee variety. Its page describes around 300 weapons, including daggers, axes, maces, swords, and battleaxes, with an aim of adding variety and authenticity to Skyrim’s arsenal rather than giving the player an overpowered weapon.
This is more than a mesh pack: the mod edits level lists and NPC records. If you use mods that alter loot or the same NPCs, check for overlapping edits and relevant patches. The mod page specifically recommends checking overlaps with xEdit; that is a conflict-checking precaution, not proof that every combination will conflict.
Rank #3
- EXPAND TO 8 PLAYERS: This expansion increases the player count from the base game, allowing 5–8 players to explore Skyrim together in epic, large-scale tabletop adventures.
- MORE HEROES, MORE CHAOS: Supports bigger parties and bolder strategies, perfect for groups who want deeper cooperation, rivalry, and emergent storytelling across the province of Skyrim.
- SEAMLESS CAMPAIGN INTEGRATION: Designed to plug directly into The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim – Adventure Board Game, preserving narrative depth, progression, and immersive gameplay.
- PERFECT FOR GAME NIGHTS & EVENTS: Ideal for larger gaming groups, clubs, and marathon sessions where more players means more interaction, alliances, and unforgettable moments.
- EXPANSION ONLY: Requires The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim – Adventure Board Game base game to play; enhances existing campaigns without replacing core systems.
4. Animated Armoury: best for new classes and animations
Animated Armoury stands out for combat feel, not just inventory size. Its page describes varied weapons with dedicated animations, parrying-dagger functionality, leveled-list distribution, and crafting and upgrading. It is the clearest pick here for someone who wants weapon classes to play differently.
The added setup is important: the mod page requires FNIS or Nemesis. Confirm the current instructions and supported files for your setup before installing, particularly if you already use an animation framework or other combat mods.

5. LeanWolf’s Better-Shaped Weapons: best for reshaping vanilla weapons
LeanWolf’s Better-Shaped Weapons SE is the visual-change option, not a new-weapon arsenal. Its page describes reshaped meshes for existing weapons and optional sheath variants; it lists version 2.1.03 and page metadata updated March 20, 2024. Choose it if you want familiar equipment to look different without deliberately expanding the game’s weapon categories.

- Want a large assortment to encounter in the world? Start with Immersive Weapons, while checking its older page history and current compatibility.
- Want more weapon categories? Compare Heavy Armory’s stated 11 types with Animated Armoury’s animation-focused approach.
- Want a large melee expansion? Reforging offers that scope, but its level-list and NPC-record edits deserve a conflict check.
- Want better-looking existing weapons rather than more loot? LeanWolf’s is the mesh-focused choice.
There is no complete compatibility matrix for these five mods, so do not assume they all work together or suit every platform. The cited pages are Special Edition pages; this list does not establish support for Legendary Edition or console ports.

Check versions and patches before installing
First match the mod’s available files and requirements to your Skyrim version and platform. Then check whether other mods change the same records or systems—especially level lists, NPC equipment, or animations—before adding several weapon mods to one load order.
If you use Legacy of the Dragonborn, its official installation information advises matching the Skyrim executable version and selecting the patches file for the DLC and mods in your loadout. Its official patches hub includes weapon-related entries; check the current hub for the specific mods and versions you use.
