These five EFL saves are self-imposed challenges for EA SPORTS FC 26, not official Manager Live presets. Choose a League Two climb, an academy rebuild, an embargo survival job, a one-club project or a promotion-and-cup campaign; then set the rules that make the season meaningful to you.
What you need to know before starting
EA describes Manager Live as a changing hub for challenges, Full Careers and Live Starting Points. Its challenge settings can specify teams or a pool of teams, league or country, objectives, start point, transfer activity, Youth Academy, Manager Market, difficulty, financial takeover, transfer embargo, and whether Quick Sim or Playable Highlights are allowed. EA’s examples include a Championship promotion push, a Notts County underdog story, a youth-focused challenge with transfers disabled, and a one-club challenge. Before choosing a club, check its division and squad in your current game database. To update squads, use Settings > Edit Teams > Download Updates, as described in EA Help’s Career Mode guidance. Then choose Manager Career and select Original for a standard career or Live to enter challenges. If you want a more simulation-oriented match feel, EA says the Authentic gameplay preset is tuned for realism. EA SPORTS FC 26 features
1. League Two to Europe: the long road to glory
The rules
- Start with a League Two club and set promotion to the Premier League as the first major milestone.
- Keep transfers open, but recruit only players you can plausibly develop or sign at your club’s current level.
- Make European qualification the eventual end goal rather than a deadline-driven requirement.
Why it works
Each promotion changes the scale of the problem: you must build a side for the next division without pretending the club can recruit like an established top-flight team. EA’s official Road To Glory example asks players to win promotion, a domestic league title and the UEFA Champions League within three seasons. 2. Academy first: build around homegrown players
The rules
- Choose any EFL club and make academy graduates the spine of the squad.
- For a stricter version, disable incoming transfers and rely on the Youth Academy to fill gaps.
- Use promotion as the nearer-term measure of progress; make a homegrown first team the long-term target.
Why it works
This save turns youth development from a side activity into the reason for every squad decision. EA explicitly describes a Youth Revolution-style challenge built around transfers being disabled and reliance on the Youth Academy, so the core restriction reflects an official challenge concept even though your club and objectives are your own. 3. The embargo survival job: make do with what you have
The rules
- Begin with an EFL club whose squad you are willing to manage without immediate reinforcements.
- Impose a one- or two-window transfer embargo as a house rule.
- Choose your difficulty and restrictions on Quick Sim or Playable Highlights before the season, then keep them consistent.
- Set one clear sporting objective: survive a relegation fight or win promotion with the existing squad.
Why it works
An embargo makes injuries, rotation and player development matter more than the next transfer window. EA lists transfer embargoes and minimum difficulty among configurable challenge parameters; the survival scenario and embargo length here are suggested rules, not a verified official challenge. 4. One club, one identity: commit to a multi-season project
The rules
- Pick an EFL side and stay with it across seasons.
- Choose one recruitment identity, such as domestic players or academy graduates, and apply it consistently.
- Make sustainable promotion the objective: progress through the divisions without abandoning the identity when results or budgets tighten.
Why it works

5. Promotion plus an FA Cup run: balance league consistency and knockout risk
The rules
- Choose a League One or League Two club.
- Set promotion as the league objective and a meaningful FA Cup run as a separate target.
- Judge the two goals differently: league progress rewards consistency, while a cup run depends on winning a sequence of knockout matches.
Why it works

Pick based on the kind of decisions you want to make, rather than an assumed difficulty ranking. These are practical distinctions, not measured scores.

Choose the Academy First save if you want recruitment restrictions to shape the whole squad. Choose the embargo if you want a shorter, immediate test of squad depth. The cup-and-promotion campaign suits a save with two distinct targets, while the other two ideas reward a longer commitment to a club or a climb through divisions.

Original or Live: where the rules fit
Use Original if you want to run these as house rules in a standard Manager Career. Use Live if you want to start from an available Manager Live challenge or starting point and play within its stated settings. Manager Live can attach Season Pass progress and rewards such as ICONs, Heroes and, for some challenges, licensed retro kits to challenge completion.
