Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf Cloud Gaming will not start in the Xbox app, first check your account, plan, region, and game eligibility. If those are correct, update the Xbox and Microsoft Store components, repair the app, reinstall Gaming Services, and test the same game at Xbox.com/play. That browser test quickly shows whether the problem is the Windows app or the service connection.
1. Check your account, plan, region, game, and PC
Cloud Gaming will not launch if the Xbox app is signed in with the wrong Microsoft account, the account lacks an eligible plan or free-to-play entitlement, the game is unavailable in your region, or the game is not currently cloud-playable.
For Xbox cloud gaming problems in Windows, Outbyte PC Repair can optionally scan system settings and clean caches that may hinder the app.

- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription or the relevant free-to-play entitlement.
- Check that your plan includes cloud gaming. Microsoft currently lists Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate; Ultimate is not universally required. Select free-to-play games, including Fortnite, can be played with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. See the current Xbox Cloud Gaming requirements.
- Look for the cloud-play icon or Cloud Gaming option on the specific game page. Game Pass catalog access does not automatically mean cloud access.
- Remember that availability can vary by country or region, plan, platform, and time.
- Confirm that the PC runs Windows 10 or Windows 11 version 22H2 or later. The Xbox PC app lists 720p as its minimum display resolution and requires about 150 MB of storage. See Microsoft’s Xbox PC app requirements.
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. The Xbox app may still run on some Windows 10 PCs, but Microsoft no longer provides the normal free Windows updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for that operating system.
If the Cloud Gaming section is missing, a game is locked, or launching sends you back to its page, an entitlement, region, or availability mismatch is more likely than a damaged installation.

The Xbox app relies on Microsoft Store-delivered components, especially Gaming Services. Updating only the visible Xbox app may leave the supporting packages out of sync.
Update Store apps
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library.
- Select Get updates or Check for updates, depending on your Store version.
- Install updates for Xbox, Gaming Services, Xbox Game Bar, and related Xbox components.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft says Store apps normally update automatically but also documents a manual update check in its Microsoft Store update guidance.

3. Repair or reset the Xbox app and Microsoft Store
Use Repair before Reset. Repair attempts to fix the app without removing its stored data. Reset clears the app’s local data and may require you to sign in again, but it is not the same as reinstalling Windows and does not delete your installed games.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Xbox, select its three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Terminate, then Repair.
- Reopen Xbox and test Cloud Gaming.
- If it still fails, return to the same page and select Reset.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select Xbox > Advanced options.
- Choose Repair; use Reset if Repair does not help.
Repeat the process for Microsoft Store if Store pages do not load or updates remain stuck. Microsoft notes that these options are not available for every application. The documented sequence is Repair first, then Reset. See Microsoft’s app repair instructions.

4. Reinstall Gaming Services
Reinstall Gaming Services when the Xbox app says it is required, shows “Something unexpected happened,” produces error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F, loses games from your library, or disables the Install or Play button.
Standard reinstall
- Open Windows PowerShell as administrator.
- Run:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | Remove-AppxPackage -allusers
- Restart the PC.
- Open elevated PowerShell again and run:
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
- On the Microsoft Store page, select Install for Gaming Services.
- Restart Windows again, open Xbox, and sign in.
The product ID opens the Gaming Services listing. Microsoft documents this route in its Microsoft Q&A troubleshooting guidance.

Only for persistent legacy Gaming Services errors
If the normal reinstall cannot resolve the specific errors 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F, Microsoft’s older procedure also removes the Gaming Services service entries. Run these commands only in an elevated PowerShell window:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | Remove-AppxPackage -allusers
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:SystemCurrentControlSetServicesGamingServices" -Recurse
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:SystemCurrentControlSetServicesGamingServicesNet" -Recurse
Restart Windows afterward and reinstall Gaming Services from Microsoft Store. This guidance was written for a specific 2021 Windows 10 failure, so it should not be the first fix for every modern cloud-streaming problem. See the original Microsoft support article.
5. Fix the connection and controller—or use Xbox.com/play
Cloud Gaming is a real-time video stream. A connection can pass a speed test and still suffer from packet loss, wireless interference, congestion, VPN routing, or proxy filtering.
Microsoft lists a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps; some devices may need 20 Mbps for better quality. It recommends 5-GHz Wi-Fi, and most games require a compatible controller connected through Bluetooth or USB. Games with Xbox touch controls are an exception. Check the current Cloud Gaming requirements.
- Disconnect any VPN and disable a manually configured proxy.
- Try wired Ethernet or 5-GHz Wi-Fi.
- Pause downloads, cloud backups, video streams, and other heavy traffic.
- Restart the router and PC.
- Connect the controller by USB to separate a Bluetooth problem from a streaming problem.
- Open xbox.com/play in a supported browser such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Safari, then try the same account and game.
Use the browser test to identify the fault
| Result | Most likely cause |
|---|---|
| Browser works, Xbox app fails | The account, game, entitlement, and network are probably valid. Repair or reset the Xbox app and reinstall its supporting components. |
| Both browser and app fail | Check subscription eligibility, region, game cloud availability, network filtering, and possible Xbox service problems. |
| Video works but controls do not | Reconnect the controller, test USB instead of Bluetooth, and verify that the game supports the connected input method. |
| The stream starts and disconnects | Suspect unstable Wi-Fi, packet loss, VPN or proxy interference, or insufficient sustained bandwidth rather than the Xbox app cache. |
Best order to try the fixes
Start with eligibility because no app repair can unlock a game or plan that is unavailable in your region. Next update Windows and Store components, then use Repair and Reset. Reinstall Gaming Services only when its errors or symptoms point to a damaged Gaming Services package. Finally, test Ethernet or 5-GHz Wi-Fi and compare the Xbox app with Xbox.com/play. That sequence avoids making disruptive system changes before simpler account, availability, and network checks are complete.
