There is no verified set of five Silksong mods that can be promised to improve the game without affecting its challenge. These five options offer custom content, boss rematches, combat information, practice tools, or easier configuration—but each has a different relationship to difficulty. Use the feature descriptions below to choose what fits your playthrough, and check the mod’s current requirements and compatibility before installing.
Five mods and tools to consider
The Silksong mod catalogue includes gameplay additions as well as loaders, libraries, and utilities. The options below are not five interchangeable gameplay upgrades: some add content, some change what information or practice options you have, and one is setup infrastructure.
| Mod | What it does | Difficulty tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Architect | Lets players create and share custom levels. | Custom levels may be easier, harder, or simply different from the main game; the feature itself does not guarantee a particular challenge level. |
| ShowDamage HealthBar | Displays enemy health bars and player damage numbers; the listing also describes boss bars and configurable textures. | It makes combat information explicit, which can change how difficult fights feel and how players approach them. |
| Pantheon of Pharloom | Provides boss refights and boss-rush challenges. | Useful for replay and focused practice, but it is for rematches rather than a replacement for main-game progression. |
| DebugMod | Offers savestates, cheats, and other practice features. | Savestates and cheats can remove risk or bypass parts of a challenge. For an unmodified-difficulty playthrough, avoid enabling cheats. |
| ModMenu | Adds a Mods submenu under Options and can show settings for supported plugins. | It is a configuration utility, not a gameplay mod. It can make other installed mods easier to manage, but does not itself add content or change combat. |
These descriptions are listed on the Thunderstore Silksong catalogue; the ModMenu page describes its configuration features. Catalogue listings can change, and a package appearing there is not proof that it works with your current game patch.
Which choices are closest to “better, not easier”?
For more content: Architect
Architect is the clearest pick if “better” means having more player-created places to explore. Because custom levels vary, treat each one as new content rather than as a balance-preserving extension of the campaign.

For replay and focused boss practice: Pantheon of Pharloom
Choose this for boss refights or boss-rush challenges. It can give you another way to engage with fights you have already reached, but it is not a way to advance through the main story.
For clearer combat feedback: ShowDamage HealthBar
Health bars and damage numbers can help you read what is happening in a fight. They also reveal information the unmodded presentation may leave implicit, so players who want to discover enemy durability through play may find the mod changes the challenge.
Rank #2
- Hollow Knight: Silksong is the epic sequel to Hollow Knight, the award winning action-adventure.
- Journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover secrets tied to your nature and your past.
For experimentation: DebugMod
DebugMod’s savestates can support practice and experimentation, while cheats can change the rules outright. Those features are valuable for testing or learning, but using them during a normal run can reduce the risk the game asks you to manage.
For managing other mods: ModMenu
ModMenu is the non-gameplay option on this list. Its page says supported plugins can expose settings in an in-game Mods submenu; simple settings can be generated automatically, while more complex settings may need a manually built menu. It helps with configuration, not with preserving or changing Silksong’s balance.

Mods that clearly change the challenge
Some popular quality-of-life changes do make particular parts of Silksong easier. A compass mod that grants the compass effect without using a tool slot removes a build cost, as PC Gamer reported in September 2025. Shortening the route back to a challenge reduces repeated travel; GamesRadar+ noted that some players consider non-boss runbacks part of the experience.
Silksong Difficulty Tweaks is more direct still: its configurable options include health, silk and tool regeneration, rosary and shard multipliers, player damage, and a setting that clamps incoming damage to one mask. The Nexus page lists version 1.0.3, last updated 28 September 2025, and BepInEx 5.x x64 as a requirement; it also notes an update for Silksong v1.0.28650+. Those are page details, not a guarantee of compatibility with the game version installed today. These changes alter resource pressure or combat, so they do not fit a strict “not easier” goal unless you deliberately choose settings for a different kind of challenge.

Where to find Silksong mods and how to install them safely
Thunderstore and Nexus Mods are places to look, but listings can include loaders, frameworks, and utilities alongside player-facing mods. A community Reddit thread also mentions both platforms, but that is anecdotal rather than a representative guide to the mod scene. Start from the specific package page, not a general folder recipe: Silksong mods may use different frameworks and installation paths.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Check the mod’s current page. Confirm its listed requirements, supported game version, and installation instructions. A catalogue listing alone does not establish compatibility with your installed patch.
- Install the required loader or framework. For example, Thunderstore lists BepInExPack Silksong as a preconfigured BepInEx loader. Follow the loader’s own current directions and the mod author’s prerequisites.
- Use the folder specified for that mod. The Nexus CradleAPI documentation describes a framework-specific setup: install BepInEx and CradleAPI, then place compatible mod DLL files in
Hollow Knight Silksong_Data/Managed/Mods. That path is not universal for every mod. - Check that it loaded. CradleAPI’s guide says its mods should appear at the upper-left of the main menu and errors appear in red. Use the relevant framework’s documentation if you are installing a different setup.
- Configure selectively. If you use ModMenu, look under Options > Mods for settings exposed by supported plugins. Leave challenge-changing features disabled if your goal is to keep the ordinary risk and resource rules.
