EA Sports FC 25 feels like a meaningful step forward from FC 24 to me mainly because it changes how I can play with friends, how I shape a team’s tactics, and how certain moments on the pitch are handled. These are feature-based reasons, not a claim that every player will prefer the new game: EA’s announcements describe what changed, but they do not independently prove that each change plays better.
1. Rush gives me a new way to play with friends
The clearest addition is Rush, a small-sided 5v5 mode that EA integrated into Football Ultimate Team, Clubs, Kick-Off, and Manager Career Youth Academy tournaments. It offers a shorter, more compact alternative to the familiar 11v11 match, which gives a group another way to spend time together in FC 25.

In some modes, four human players play alongside an AI goalkeeper. Rush also has its own flexible positioning and coordination, so it is not simply a standard match with fewer players. The format is a strong reason for me to prefer FC 25 if I want a social match that feels different from a full team fixture. EA’s Rush overview and its launch announcement describe how the mode fits into the game.
2. FC IQ makes tactics feel more central
FC IQ is EA’s new tactical and positional system for FC 25. It brings together Player Roles, revised Team Tactics, and Smart Tactics, with the aim of giving players more control over how a side behaves. Player Roles affect movement and decisions away from the ball, not only the player’s position on the formation screen.

That focus on off-ball behavior appeals to me because a team’s shape and movement matter as much as the player I am controlling. EA says FC IQ’s AI model draws on real-world football data; that is the publisher’s account of the system’s design, not independent proof that its decisions are more realistic or effective in every match. 3. More Player Roles and live tactical options give me more ways to adjust
EA says FC 25 adds more than 50 Player Roles, alongside real-time tactical suggestions and new D-pad functionality. The combination offers more ways to define what players do and to make adjustments during a match, rather than relying only on a formation chosen before kickoff.

For me, that added range is valuable if I want to experiment with a team’s behavior or respond to what is happening on the pitch. It is an increase in options, though; EA’s feature description does not establish that the suggestions will suit every player or that managing tactics will automatically be easier.
4. Shooting, dribbling, and goalkeeping receive specific changes
FC 25’s gameplay notes describe adjustments to shooting accuracy and off-balance shot animations, refreshed dribbling animations, and a new Goalkeeper Rush to Contain mechanic. These are targeted changes to how particular situations work, rather than a wholesale claim that every part of the match has been rebuilt.

I see the appeal in having more deliberate tools for those moments: a shot taken while off balance, a dribble, or a goalkeeper rushing out. But the available feature details document the changes, not their comparative quality in play. Whether they make matches feel more responsive or enjoyable is a matter of player experience, not something established by EA’s announcement alone.
5. EA reports broader full-body movement animation coverage
EA reports that FC 25 has 1,847 athletes with full-body movement, compared with 1,373 players with upper-body movement in FC 24. The figures are not a like-for-like comparison: they describe different scopes of animation coverage, so they should not be read as a precise count of newly upgraded players.

EA also says the FC 25 full-body animation library includes more than 200 new women. Those publisher-reported figures suggest a notable emphasis on animation coverage, which can matter to players who value how athletes move on screen. They do not by themselves demonstrate a measured visual improvement for every athlete or platform. EA’s gameplay deep dive provides the counts.

FC 25 was announced for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Feature availability is not necessarily identical across those versions: EA said HyperMotionV was available only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Nintendo’s Switch announcement confirms Rush, FC IQ, and Clubs for that version, but the cited announcements do not establish complete feature parity across platforms. Check the specific platform’s listing if a particular feature matters to you.

EA announced the game’s release for September 27, 2024, with Ultimate Edition early access beginning September 20, 2024. It is a past release, rather than a newly launched game. EA’s launch announcement lists the platforms and dates, while Nintendo’s Switch announcement confirms features for that version.
