If you want classic games without tracking down original hardware, four of these five official consoles include games built into the system. The fifth, Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition, is a cartridge-based exception for PAC-MAN fans and players with compatible Atari cartridges. Compare the game collections, controls and TV or handheld setup below; the picks are not ranked by hands-on testing.
How these consoles differ
“Built in” means the games are part of the console’s included collection, rather than supplied only on a cartridge. That distinction matters: a fixed built-in library is ready to play without extra game purchases, while a cartridge-based system can draw on compatible physical games.

The Atari and My Arcade Gamestation Go is the most varied option here for playing away from a TV: its built-in collection contains over 200 console and arcade games, according to the manufacturers. Named games include PAC-MAN, Balls of Steel and five Atari Recharged titles. The 7-inch display is paired with a paddle, trackball, keypad and other controls, giving games that depend on those inputs a more appropriate control scheme than a standard pad.

2. SEGA Genesis Mini 2: best for a compact SEGA collection
SEGA says the Genesis Mini 2 includes 60 classic titles and a six-button control pad. It suits players looking for a curated Genesis-era collection in a small TV-oriented system, rather than a handheld with a large cross-genre arcade library. The cited official information establishes the game count and controller; check the current product listing for the specific included lineup and accessories in your market. 3. Nintendo NES Classic Mini: best for familiar NES games
Nintendo’s NES Classic Mini connects to an HDTV by HDMI and includes 30 NES games. Its lineup includes Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, PAC-MAN and Kirby’s Adventure. It is a straightforward pick for someone who wants a ready-to-play NES collection on a television, without buying original cartridges. The collection is built in, not an included cartridge bundle. See Nintendo’s NES Classic Mini information.
4. Super NES Classic Edition: best for standout SNES favorites
Nintendo’s official support page lists Super Mario World, Super Metroid, EarthBound, Final Fantasy III and Star Fox 2 among the included games. That lineup makes this a strong choice if those SNES-era adventures and classics are the main draw. The cited support information confirms those titles, but does not establish a total game count here, so it is better to choose it for the named collection than compare it by an unsupported number. Check Nintendo’s Super NES Classic Edition game list.

5. Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition: a cartridge-based exception
This is not a broad built-in game system: the PAC-MAN Edition supplies one cartridge, PAC-MAN: Double Feature, containing PAC-MAN 7800 and PAC-MAN 2600. Atari describes compatibility with Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges, making it the better fit for PAC-MAN fans or people who want to play compatible original cartridges rather than rely only on a fixed built-in collection. See Atari’s PAC-MAN Edition details.
If you are interested in cartridge play but do not need the PAC-MAN edition, the standard Atari 2600+ includes a 10-in-1 game cartridge and supports most Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges. Atari says the console uses emulation to play cartridges. It is another cartridge-oriented alternative, not a substitute for a large preloaded library. See Atari’s standard 2600+ information.
Which one should you choose?
- For portable play and the broadest stated built-in selection: choose Gamestation Go, especially if paddle or trackball controls appeal to you.
- For a SEGA-focused TV setup: Genesis Mini 2 offers 60 classic titles and a six-button pad.
- For a ready-made Nintendo collection: choose NES Classic Mini for its 30 built-in NES games, or Super NES Classic Edition for the listed SNES favorites.
- For original Atari cartridge compatibility or a PAC-MAN-specific bundle: choose Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition, understanding that its two games arrive on a cartridge.
Before purchasing, verify local stock, price, included controller and other accessories, and whether the games are built into the console or supplied on a cartridge. Those details can depend on the seller and region.
