Rising has a clear case for players who want mobile access, selectable hero styles, multiple camera views, and a separate story entry point. That is a matter of fit, not an objective quality ranking: Bungie says Destiny 2 will remain playable even after its final announced live-service content update on June 9, 2026.
1. Destiny: Rising brings the series to iOS and Android
The most straightforward advantage is access. NetEase says Destiny: Rising is free-to-play on iOS and Android, making it an option for players who want a Destiny experience on a phone or tablet. Bungie’s Destiny 2 player guide lists PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One—not mobile platforms. NetEase’s worldwide launch announcement and Bungie’s player guide establish the platform distinction.
This is a convenience and platform-fit benefit, not evidence that playing on a phone is better than using a PC or console. If you prefer a larger screen or traditional controls, Destiny 2’s listed platforms may suit you better.
2. Its playable heroes have distinct abilities and stories
NetEase presents Destiny: Rising around a roster of playable characters, each with unique abilities and an individual story. That structure may appeal if you like choosing a defined combat style and learning about a character as you play, rather than treating your Guardian as the sole center of the experience.

The official description establishes the character-led design, but it does not prove that the characters or their writing are better than Destiny 2’s. NetEase’s feature list describes the heroes and their abilities.
3. You can choose first- or third-person views
Destiny: Rising advertises both first-person and third-person perspectives. For players who prefer seeing more of their character or the surrounding action, that choice is a meaningful way to adjust the feel of combat. NetEase also says the game supports touchscreen controls or a compatible controller; a controller is optional, and compatibility depends on the device and controller.

4. Its advertised modes extend beyond combat playlists
NetEase’s feature list spans story missions, cooperative and competitive play, clan activity, casual party modes, and customizable shared spaces. That mix may be attractive if you want several kinds of group activity, including options that are less focused on standard combat sessions.

These are the modes Rising explicitly advertises; they are not proof that Destiny 2 lacks social or casual features. NetEase’s launch announcement lists the modes and specifies six-player strikes.
5. Its story offers a separate entry point into Destiny
NetEase describes Destiny: Rising as taking place in an alternate timeline, in the post-Dark Age era, and following a new generation of Lightbearers. That gives players a way into the setting without simply replaying Destiny 2’s main timeline. It may be especially appealing if you are curious about Destiny’s universe but want a distinct starting point.

The alternate setting makes Rising a different narrative path, not a demonstrated improvement in story quality. NetEase introduced this positioning in its October 2024 announcement.

Bungie announced on May 21, 2026: “To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio.” It also said: “Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today.” So the announced end of live-service content updates is not the same as the game shutting down.
