1. New Orleans Saints: best all-around option
The Saints book combines spread passing, RPOs, and power runs, making it a flexible starting point if you do not want your offense tied to one style. Highlighted formations include Y Off Trips Nasty, Doubles Flex Y Off Close, Gun Deuce, and Heavy Saint.
Y-Sail gives you a zone high-low read: look at the defenders occupying the short and deeper areas and take the route the coverage leaves available. RPO Read Y Flat creates a choice among a handoff, quarterback keeper, or quick throw, depending on how the defense reacts. The trade-off is menu density; frequently switching formations can make this book feel complicated until you learn its structure.
2. Chicago Bears: best for motion and play action
Trips TE Flex, under-center Singleback, and I-Form give the Bears multiple pre-snap presentations. Motion and play-action concepts can help you identify coverage and create route traffic that complicates defenders’ assignments.
The setup has a cost: late motion and several adjustments can use valuable seconds, especially when facing a fast pass rush. If you use this book, learn a few dependable calls first rather than trying to change everything at the line on every snap.

3. Philadelphia Eagles: best for option football
The Eagles suit players who want a mobile quarterback involved in the run game. Gun Bunch TE, Gun Trips TE, Wildcat, and quarterback-run concepts can put pressure on defensive run fits by making the defense account for the quarterback as well as the back.
The numbers advantage depends on quarterback mobility. With a slow quarterback, the option threat is less convincing and the book’s distinctive approach loses some of its value.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers: best for power football
Pittsburgh is the clearest choice here for a tight, run-oriented offense built around power football. It suits players who would rather establish the run than build an attack around constant formation changes and a wide-open passing menu.
Its limitation becomes more noticeable when you fall behind: the obvious passing plan is narrower than the book’s power identity. Consider how often you expect to need a high-volume comeback passing game before committing to it.

You can concentrate on reading the defense and executing the call instead of building every play through adjustments.
Players seeking extensive motion or a deep under-center run menu may be better served elsewhere. Jacksonville’s appeal is its accessible structure, not maximum variety in those areas.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: best for split-back rushing
Split Tight and Split TE, alongside Singleback sets, support extra blockers, power and stretch runs, and rollout action. The Chargers are worth considering if you want a rushing identity that can attack with more than one run concept.
The approach is less comfortable when trailing by multiple scores, when the offense may need to lean more heavily on passing. It is a better fit when you expect to keep the game close enough to maintain a balanced script.

How to choose a playbook for your roster
A large play count does not automatically make a book useful. A formation can be less valuable if it relies on personnel your roster does not have, so compare the scheme with your quarterback, offensive line, and run-game strengths. Operation Sports recommends weighing roster fit alongside the menu itself.
- Quarterback mobility: Favor the Eagles if you want the quarterback to be a designed-run threat; a less mobile quarterback weakens that fit.
- Run-game strengths: Consider the Steelers for power concepts or the Chargers for split-back rushing, and make sure your personnel can support the approach.
- Pre-snap comfort: The Bears offer motion and varied looks, but adjustments can take time. The Jaguars are a more straightforward option.
- Passing answers: Check whether the book gives you calls you can use against both man and zone coverage, plus a way to respond to pressure.
- Game situations: Think about whether you have suitable calls for short yardage, the red zone, and situations where you are playing from behind.
How to test a playbook before building your offense around it
Start small and confirm that you can reliably answer common defensive looks before adding more formations. This practical setup follows the preparation advice in Operation Sports’ guide; it is not a claim of a controlled gameplay test.
- Choose one formation that fits your roster and preferred style.
- Build an audible group from that formation with an inside run, a quick pass, a zone answer, and a man answer.
- Practice those calls against common coverage looks until you can identify which response fits the defense.
- Add another formation only when you have a clear reason for needing it, such as a different run look or a better answer to a defensive tendency.
Why Madden 26 playbook rankings can change
EA says Coach Suggestions and AI playcalling filter available plays using down, distance, score, clock, timeouts, personnel, field position, and weather. It also says team and league playcalling models are updated during the NFL season through title updates. As EA puts it in its Madden NFL 26 Gameplay Deep Dive, “Things like down, distance, score, clock time, timeouts, personnel, field position, and even the weather conditions are used as filters to sort through all the available plays in the playbook and narrow down to those that best match what each team would most likely call in the given situation.” That makes a playbook’s practical value dependent not just on its plays, but on the situation and the game’s current tuning.
EA’s Madden NFL 26 Tips and Tricks hub features a best-offensive-playbooks item, and its summary names the Steelers, Eagles, Patriots, and Jaguars. The accessible hub summary does not provide a six-book ranking, so the six choices above should be understood as independent editorial picks, not an EA ranking. Check the current game after a major update if you are relying on a specific play or Coach Suggestions behavior.
