Yes, you can host an Assetto Corsa server without paying monthly rent—but “free” can mean a credit-based host, a limited provider tier, your own PC, free software, or a temporary VPS promotion. - Whether the server remains online when empty.

Common network problems
Friends may be unable to connect even when port forwarding appears correct. Possible causes include carrier-grade NAT, double NAT, an incorrect internal IP address, an ISP firewall, Windows Firewall, or a changing public IP. Residential ISPs may also restrict or discourage public servers.
Do not describe this as free cloud hosting: it is free infrastructure only because you are supplying and operating the infrastructure.

Windows setup path
- Download the current stable Windows archive, such as
assetto-server-win-x64.zip, from the project documentation. - Extract it to a dedicated server location. Follow the project’s compatibility guidance rather than placing it casually inside the normal game installation.
- Install any runtime dependency required by the current release.
- Create the configuration in Content Manager.
- Use Content Manager’s Pack function to create an archive containing the required server configuration and data files.
- Extract that archive into the AssettoServer root.
- Start the server and test it locally.
- Only after local startup succeeds, configure Windows Firewall and router access.
The documentation also describes an optional Content Manager integration in which the original acServer.exe is renamed, AssettoServer is extracted into the server directory, and the new executable is renamed to acServer.exe. Treat that as a compatibility method, not the only installation route; some original server settings may not have an effect.
