A June 1 MeriStation forecast named six possible contenders; it is an editorial snapshot, not the official shortlist or an up-to-date October ranking.
What is confirmed about The Game Awards 2026?
The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, December 10, at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The official announcement says nominees are coming in mid-November. Until that announcement, no game on a prediction list should be described as an official 2026 Game of the Year nominee. The Game Awards announcement provides the event details.
The six games in MeriStation’s midyear forecast
On June 1, 2026, MeriStation published a forecast identifying the games its newsroom would put forward if asked to vote at midyear. Its six picks were:
- 007: First Light
- Forza Horizon 6
- Marathon
- Mina the Hollower
- Pragmata
- Resident Evil: Requiem
These names represent MeriStation’s dated editorial selection, not a prediction that all six will make the final ballot. The article does not establish that this is the strongest October forecast, either. Read MeriStation’s June 1 forecast.

How are Game Awards nominees selected?
The official FAQ says that most category nominees are selected by an international jury of media and influencer outlets. Each outlet submits a confidential, unranked ballot listing five choices; the five games appearing on the most ballots become nominees. A tie can produce six or more nominees. The Game Awards FAQ explains the selection method.
The possibility of six or more nominees under the rules does not validate MeriStation’s six-game forecast. The number of forecast picks and the number of eventual nominees are separate facts.

What later awards coverage says—and what it doesn’t
A separate signal arrived in September: TechRadar reported that the Golden Joystick Awards had announced nominees across 21 categories. Its Console Game of the Year nominees included 007 First Light, Forza Horizon 6, PRAGMATA, and Resident Evil Requiem—four games from MeriStation’s June list. TechRadar’s Golden Joystick Awards report covers that shortlist.
Golden Joystick nominations are not Game Awards nominations. The overlap offers context about another awards program’s choices, but cannot confirm which games The Game Awards jury will select.

How to read this contender list
- Source and date: It is a MeriStation editorial forecast from June 1, 2026.
- Award and category: The six picks concern a forecast for The Game Awards’ Game of the Year category; the later comparison concerns Golden Joystick’s Console Game of the Year category.
- Status: The June names are predictions. The four overlapping titles were shortlisted by Golden Joystick, not confirmed by The Game Awards.
The practical answer to how much this list may change before December 10 is that the official nominees are still pending: The Game Awards announcement places their reveal in mid-November. The June forecast should therefore be treated as a dated snapshot until the official list appears.
