For a first resource-focused outpost in Starfield, start by checking Andraphon for Aluminum, Iron, Beryllium, and Helium-3. Consider Bessel III-b or Zamka for different resource mixes, and choose Jemison if a greener home base matters more than maximizing extraction. Kreet and Tau Ceti VIII-b are situational alternatives. There is no universally best planet: the right choice depends on what you want to build, and the local resource patches in your save need to be verified before you place a beacon.
Which planet should you choose for a first outpost?
For common construction materials, Den of Geek’s resource guide and Game8’s outpost guide make Andraphon the clearest straightforward starting candidate among these six. If you want a different mix, compare Bessel III-b and Zamka. Jemison is better suited to a scenic, wildlife-rich retreat than a resource-efficiency pick. The sources do not establish a single best option for every playstyle or a definitive lowest-hazard planet.

Six starter-friendly outpost planets
1. Andraphon: a practical first resource outpost
Andraphon is a moon in the Narion system associated with Aluminum, Iron, Beryllium, and Helium-3. Its Aluminum and Iron make it a sensible first place to check for construction materials, while Beryllium and Helium-3 broaden the potential resource mix. The trade-off is its resource-first character rather than a lush home setting. Find a local overlap of the resources you want and confirm it in your own save before building. Bethesda’s outpost management guidance also identifies Aluminum, Lead, Iron, and Nickel as useful starter materials.
2. Bessel III-b: an alternative mix of metals
Den of Geek lists Aluminum, Nickel, Iron, and Cobalt on Bessel III-b. That combination makes it worth comparing with Andraphon if you want several construction and crafting materials from one outpost. Do not rely on a guide’s exact landing area or coordinates to reproduce the same resource overlap in every game.
#1 Best Overall
- Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits
- Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets
- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
3. Zamka: a broader set of early resources
Zamka, in Alpha Centauri, is listed with Helium-3, Nickel, Iron, Uranium, and Vanadium. It can serve as a second resource outpost when you want a different set of materials from Andraphon. Game8 also highlights Zamka for resources useful in construction and expansion; check the surface near your intended site to see which deposits are actually available.
4. Jemison: a greener home base
Jemison is a reasonable choice if you value greenery and wildlife more than raw extraction. Game8 describes its natural-resource selection as relatively limited compared with resource-focused options. Bethesda confirms that New Atlantis is on Jemison, making the planet a recognizable setting to consider for a home base, but the available sources do not establish that proximity to the city makes it the most resource-efficient outpost location. Pure Xbox’s outpost guide also covers suggested locations.
Rank #2
- Includes: Starfield Standard Edition (Disc)
- Travel to the stars in this next-gen RPG from the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4
- Create a character according to your imagination and explore the endless expanses in unparalleled freedom
- The goal of this epic journey? The answer to humanity's greatest question
5. Kreet: an option to inspect, not a proven winner
Kreet appears among Pure Xbox’s suggested outpost planets, but the sources here do not establish a detailed, reliable resource or hazard comparison against the other choices. Treat it as a candidate to scan if it suits your route or goals, rather than assuming it is objectively better for a first outpost.
6. Tau Ceti VIII-b: Iron and Aluminum with flora and fauna
Game8 lists both Iron and Aluminum on Tau Ceti VIII-b, along with some flora and fauna. That combination may appeal if you want basic construction resources in a setting with signs of life. The resource list is not a guarantee that both deposits will be conveniently close to the landing area in your save.

Rank #3
- TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
How to verify a location before building
Planet-wide resource lists are useful for narrowing your options, but they do not prove that the patch you want is near a suitable beacon location. Bethesda says that “the distribution of resources and NPC outposts are procedurally generated to some degree,” even when planets contain the same resource types. Use the scan-and-check approach before committing to a site.
- Scan the planet. From orbit, check which resources are present and decide what you need for this outpost.
- Land and scan the surface. Search for nearby patches of the resources you want, rather than relying only on an orbit-level list or coordinates from a guide.
- Place the Outpost Beacon where the deposits suit your plan. Prioritize the local resource overlap you can actually see in your save.
- Start with extraction and power. Bethesda’s getting-started guidance describes beginning resource production with an extractor and a power source; an airlock, hab unit, and crew station can follow as you expand.
Bethesda describes an outpost as “both a place to hang your spacesuit between jumping between systems and a resource gathering opportunity.” The combination of shelter and extraction is why a resource-rich moon and a comfortable home-base planet can both be good choices, depending on what you want from the site.
How to choose among the six
- Want a straightforward first resource site? Check Andraphon for the Aluminum and Iron patches you need.
- Want a different group of metals? Compare Bessel III-b’s listed Aluminum, Nickel, Iron, and Cobalt with Zamka’s Helium-3, Nickel, Iron, Uranium, and Vanadium.
- Want scenery and wildlife? Consider Jemison, or inspect Tau Ceti VIII-b if you also want Iron and Aluminum.
- Interested in Kreet? Scan it in your own game and judge the local deposits; the available comparisons do not support a claim that it is the superior starter planet.
