If 7 Days to Die freezes, closes to the PS5 home screen, or will not launch, work through these checks from least disruptive to most involved. They are general PlayStation troubleshooting steps, not confirmed fixes for a specific 7 Days to Die bug, and none is guaranteed to solve the problem.
Start by checking whether other games work. If only 7 Days to Die is affected, contact the game’s publisher about possible known issues; if several games fail, the problem may involve the console. The PlayStation crash guide explains that distinction.
Before troubleshooting: protect your save and identify the symptom
Note whether the game freezes, returns to the home screen, displays an error code, or causes the console to power off. Record what you were doing when it happened and whether it occurs every time. A screenshot or video can help when reporting the problem.
Do not delete your existing save as a casual test. PlayStation recommends trying the game without the current save to check whether it may be corrupted, but preserve the original and back it up before any step that could remove data. The game’s General Troubleshooting guidance also says to back up saves before its console cleanup procedure.

10 checks to try, in order
1. Check whether other games are affected
Launch another PS5 game. If the problem happens only in 7 Days to Die, treat it as a game-specific issue and ask the publisher whether there are known issues. If several games freeze or crash, use PlayStation’s support or repair route because the console may be involved. If the crash happens during online play, compare with another online game or service to help establish whether the symptom is limited to this title.
2. Restart the PS5
Restart the console, then try launching the game again. Sony includes restarting among its checks for games that will not start.

3. Check for a game update
Highlight 7 Days to Die on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. Install any available update and retry the game.
4. Check PS5 system software
Check for and install the current PS5 system software through the console’s system software settings. PlayStation includes system software updates in its guidance for both launch failures and crashes.

5. Confirm the game finished installing
Check the game’s download status and make sure its download and installation completed. If the game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and test it there; Sony recommends internal storage for launch issues.
6. Test without the existing save—without deleting it
PlayStation suggests starting a game without an existing save to check whether the save could be corrupted. Back up the current save first, and do not remove your only copy. Treat this as a diagnostic comparison, not a promise that a new save will repair the game.

7. Consider disc-specific checks
If you own the disc version, wipe the disc with a clean, soft cloth and check for scratches or damage. Sony also recommends testing another disc to see whether the issue follows this disc. These checks do not apply to a digital-only installation.
8. Try Safe Mode cache and database options
Safe Mode provides system maintenance options, including clearing the system software cache and rebuilding the database. Sony describes clearing cache for system feature problems or performance drops, and rebuilding the database as a scan of the drive that creates a new content database. Neither is documented as a guaranteed fix for 7 Days to Die.

- Turn off the PS5 by holding the power button for three seconds.
- After the console is off, press and hold the power button again. Release it after the second beep, which sounds about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller to the console with a USB cable, then press the PS button.
- Choose the cache-clearing or database-rebuild option you intend to use and follow the on-screen prompts.
Safe Mode includes options with different effects. Sony says some can cause data loss; back up important data before choosing an option if you are unsure what it changes. PlayStation’s Safe Mode guide lists the available choices. Repair Console Storage does not erase data, and Restore Default Settings preserves stored games, apps, screenshots, clips, and saved data. The Reset PS5 and Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) options delete user data, so they are not early troubleshooting steps.
9. Follow the game’s console cleanup only with a backup
The 7 Days to Die Help Center’s console instructions say to back up saves to online cloud storage, fully power off and unplug the console, and wait 30 seconds. Then find the game’s saved data and delete only its settings file—not other files. The article describes menu labels such as Options, Profile, or User Data, but does not specify PS5, so follow the current labels on your console carefully. The Help Center also says to restore the game’s license if needed. If you cannot confidently identify the settings file, stop and ask the publisher before deleting anything.
10. Reinstall if the earlier checks do not help
As a later step, delete and reinstall the game. Back up saves before taking any data-removing action, and check that the reinstall completes before launching it. Sony and the game’s Help Center both include reinstalling in their general troubleshooting guidance.

If the problem remains, contact the game’s publisher when only 7 Days to Die is affected. Include the error code, what happened, when it happened, and the steps that reproduce it; attach a screenshot or video if possible. If multiple games are affected or the evidence points to a console-wide issue, use PlayStation’s support guidance and its repair path.
The available official guidance does not establish a current PS5-specific 7 Days to Die crash bug, confirmed hotfix, or current game version that resolves this symptom. The checks above are general troubleshooting, not confirmation that a particular patch or defect exists.
