This is an archival look at seven franchises Jacob Siegal hoped would return in 2024—not a current list of announced projects. The original BGR feature named Banjo-Kazooie, Jak and Daxter, Portal, Rayman, Sly Cooper, SSX, and Titanfall. Since then, Rayman has received a new anniversary edition, but that release is not a new mainline sequel.
In January 2024, BGR’s Jacob Siegal made the case for bringing back seven familiar game franchises. The list reflected the author’s wishes and his assessment at the time; it was not a publisher-backed roadmap, and a hoped-for sequel is not evidence that one is in development.
One notable update has arrived since that article: Ubisoft released Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition in 2026. The other six franchises below are presented in their original 2024 context; the sources available here do not verify a current revival announcement for them.
The seven franchises on the 2024 wish list
Banjo-Kazooie
Siegal’s 2024 feature named Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (2008) as the franchise’s latest entry. The appeal of a return lies in the original games’ blend of platforming, collectible hunting, and puzzles. The feature’s wish for more Banjo-Kazooie was an opinion, not an announcement from the rights holder. The sources cited here do not verify a current project.

Jak and Daxter
The feature identified Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier (2012) as the latest entry, and traced the series’ shift from colorful platforming toward a more mature action-adventure style. Its call for a Jak 4 expressed what the author wanted to see; it did not establish that a sequel was being made. A current revival announcement is not verified here.
Portal
Siegal pointed to Portal 2 (2011), whose portal-based puzzles and science-fiction story left room, in his view, for another installment. The hope for Portal 3 was a fan-facing wish rather than confirmation of an official project. The sources cited here do not verify a current announcement.
Rayman
The 2024 feature listed Rayman Mini (2019) as the latest entry while describing Rayman Legends (2013) as the last major console game starring Rayman. Those are the feature’s distinctions in its original context. The important later development is an anniversary collection—not a new numbered sequel.
Sly Cooper
The feature named Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (2013) as the latest entry and highlighted the series’ mix of stealth and platforming. Its uncertainty about who might develop another game was the author’s observation in 2024, not a statement of current rights-holder plans. No current revival announcement is verified by the sources cited here.
SSX
Siegal’s list identified SSX (2012) as the latest entry and recalled the series’ arcade-style snowboarding, trick-focused runs, courses, and online play. The feature said there was no evidence of a comeback when it was published in January 2024. That historical observation should not be read as a definitive statement about plans in 2026; the sources cited here do not verify a current announcement.

Titanfall
The 2024 article listed Titanfall 2 (2016) as the latest entry, praising its campaign, movement, and Titan combat. It described a 2023 update as a sign of life, while noting that a third game had not appeared by the article’s publication. That is historical context, not confirmation of present plans. A current revival announcement is not verified here.

That statement concerns Legends Retold; it should not be mistaken for an announcement of a new numbered Rayman game.
How to read the list today
The seven picks remain a record of what one writer wanted in 2024, not a ranking of confirmed comebacks. Distinguish a sequel from a remake, remaster, anniversary collection, or rerelease: each can bring an old game back to players, but only a new installment answers the wish for a new chapter. Rayman’s 2026 anniversary edition is a concrete return to the original game, not proof of a new mainline sequel. For Banjo-Kazooie, Jak and Daxter, Portal, Sly Cooper, SSX, and Titanfall, the sources cited here do not establish current revival plans.
