There are two fundamentally different ways to play on Amazon Fire TV:

- Native games: downloaded from the Amazon Appstore and run locally on a compatible Fire TV device.
- Luna games: streamed from Amazon’s cloud servers. They do not occupy Fire TV storage, but they require a stable internet connection and suitable controls.

GameNight is a Luna-focused option for accessible group play. Supported experiences can use phones as controllers, but that does not turn every Luna game into a phone-controlled game. More demanding titles still generally need a compatible physical controller.
Before you start
Prime is useful, but it is not a permanent “free games” guarantee
Prime members receive a rotating selection of Luna games at no additional charge. Amazon’s current U.S. explanation describes more than 50 included games, but both the number and lineup can change. Say “included with Prime at the time checked,” not “free forever.”

Amazon currently lists the U.S. price as $9.99 per month; confirm the live price and catalog before subscribing. Luna changed in 2026, so do not rely on older guides that describe buying individual Luna games, Luna game stores, or the former third-party subscription structure. Amazon says those routes ended beginning April 10, 2026, with games previously accessed through them becoming unplayable after June 10, 2026. Read the current Luna subscription and store guidance.
You will probably need a controller
The standard Fire TV remote is not a universal game controller. A physical gamepad is the sensible choice for sports, action, RPG, and cinematic games. Amazon’s Luna Controller is designed for Luna and currently listed at $69.99 in Amazon’s published information. Existing Xbox or PlayStation controllers may work, but compatibility depends on the Fire TV hardware, Bluetooth behavior, and individual game.
For supported GameNight experiences, the Luna Controller app can help configure a phone as a controller and manage controller firmware, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi modes. A phone is convenient for a party, but it is not a full substitute for analog sticks and trigger controls in every action game.
Plan for streaming requirements
Amazon recommends a sustained connection of at least 10 Mbps for Luna. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee of smooth play. Congested Wi-Fi can produce latency, image degradation, or disconnections even when a speed test looks adequate. Ethernet is preferable where your Fire TV setup supports it; otherwise use a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection and reduce competing traffic.

The eight best Fire TV games to try
1. Fallout — best overall showcase

It is not a native Fire TV download. Check the exact Fallout title, current Luna entitlement, country, and plan on your device before starting. Players with unstable internet or no gamepad should skip it and choose a local Appstore game or a GameNight title instead.
2. EA Sports FC 26 — best sports game
Delivery: Luna stream. Best for: Football fans and multiplayer households. Controller: Compatible gamepad required for a sensible experience.
EA Sports FC 26 gives Fire TV a familiar sports option with a control scheme designed around a conventional gamepad. It is easier to recommend than a remote-controlled sports imitation because the controller is central to passing, movement, and shooting.
Check whether it is included with your current Prime rotation or requires Luna Premium. Do not assume that an older Luna listing or a different region has the same access. Skip it if you only have the Fire TV remote or if network delay makes timing-sensitive play frustrating.

Delivery: Luna stream. Best for: Players who want a premium, console-like action adventure.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the list’s clearest cinematic showcase. It is a good choice when graphics, atmosphere, and a substantial single-player presentation matter more than instant party accessibility.
That quality also makes it less forgiving of streaming problems. Confirm the current Luna listing, plan requirement, regional access, and Fire TV compatibility. It should be played with a physical controller, not the standard remote. Secondary coverage has identified it among the Fire TV Prime Video gaming examples, but the live Luna listing remains the authority.
4. Batman: Arkham Knight — best superhero action game
Delivery: Luna stream. Best for: Superhero fans and players who want a conventional action game.

It needs a physical controller and a reliable connection. Check the current catalog rather than assuming that Amazon’s example still means universal access. Players who want offline play, predictable performance, or local installation should look at compatible Appstore games instead.
6. Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg — best party game
Delivery: Luna/GameNight stream. Best for: Families, friends, and casual groups. Controller: Supported phones may act as controllers.

8. Terraforming Mars — best strategy game
Delivery: Check the current Amazon Games/Luna route. Best for: Players who prefer planning and strategy to reflexes.
Terraforming Mars gives the shortlist a slower, more thoughtful option. It is a better match for players who want a board-game-inspired experience and do not need an action-heavy showcase.
Amazon announced it as an Amazon Games app title in June 2026, but the exact delivery route and entitlement should be checked on the current Fire TV interface. Do not assume that an announcement guarantees identical availability across countries or Fire TV devices.
When a native Appstore game is the better choice
Choose a locally downloaded Fire TV game when you want to avoid streaming latency, have an unstable connection, face data limits, or prefer a game that launches without a Luna plan. Open the Fire TV Games area and look for titles marked as compatible with your device. Native games may be simpler, ad-supported, or include in-app purchases, but they avoid the network dependency of Luna.
Compatibility is not identical across Fire TV Stick models, Fire TV televisions, and Fire TV Cube devices. Fire OS version, region, storage, controls, and hardware performance can all affect whether a listing appears or runs well. Treat the device’s current listing as more reliable than a generic web roundup.
How to find and launch a game
- Open the Games area on Fire TV, or search for the title.
- For a Luna title, look for Play with Amazon Luna or an equivalent Luna launch option.
- Pair a compatible controller before launching, or choose the phone-controller option when the GameNight experience supports it.
- In supported U.S. and U.K. regions, open Prime Video and look for the Games tab. Amazon announced this Fire TV integration beginning July 23, 2026.
- Select the game and follow the on-screen prompts.
Labels can differ by Fire TV model, software version, app version, account, and region. If you cannot find a title, open Luna directly rather than searching only the Appstore.
Troubleshooting
The game is missing
- Check whether the Prime rotation or GameNight lineup changed.
- Open Luna directly instead of relying only on Appstore search.
- Confirm whether the title requires Luna Premium.
- Update the Luna and Prime Video apps.
- Check your Amazon account country and Fire TV compatibility.
- Remember that the Prime Video Games tab is not a worldwide guarantee.
The game launches but will not respond
Pair a compatible gamepad before starting. For supported GameNight titles, install and configure the Luna Controller app on a phone. Check whether the specific game expects a controller, keyboard, or mouse. Do not treat the standard Fire TV remote as a universal substitute.
The picture is poor or controls lag
Test the connection beside the TV, reduce other household traffic, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet where practical, restart the router and Fire TV, and move the Fire TV device away from wireless interference. An HDMI extender can help if the television blocks the device’s wireless signal. If cloud latency remains unacceptable, switch to a native Appstore game.
A Prime-included game disappeared
That is usually a catalog rotation rather than a fault. Prime Luna access is conditional and changeable. Check the current Prime lineup before assuming the game has been removed from your account permanently.
Which Fire TV gaming route should you choose?
- Prime members: Start with the rotating included Luna games and GameNight titles before paying for Premium.
- Serious solo players: Consider Luna Premium and a physical controller, provided your internet connection is stable.
- Families and groups: Start with GameNight games that support phone controllers.
- Latency-sensitive or offline-minded players: Prefer native Appstore downloads.
