3. No Man’s Sky — best for underwater exploration in a vast space game
No Man’s Sky is not an underwater-only adventure: its aquatic systems sit within a much larger galaxy-exploration game. But the documented underwater activities go well beyond a brief swim. Hello Games’ Abyss update describes aquatic missions, underwater ruins and wrecks, aquatic biomes, ocean-floor resources, and underwater base modules.

The update also introduced the Nautilon, a submersible for underwater navigation, mining, and combat, alongside revised swimming controls. Underwater exploration is a side activity in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, not the core of the adventure. Ubisoft describes dives for underwater chests, reached by diving bell or free dive. Diving-bell areas feature rare loot as well as oxygen management, currents, jellyfish, and sharks.

That makes it a good fit if you want occasional hazardous dives in a larger pirate adventure, rather than an open world built chiefly around the ocean. The cited Ubisoft page is specifically about Resynced; it does not establish the edition’s release status or the original game’s current availability.
5. Minecraft — best for player-led ocean exploration
Minecraft is an open-world sandbox, not a focused underwater survival narrative. Mojang’s Update Aquatic page describes marine life and new mobs beneath the surface, giving players ocean environments to explore as part of a flexible, self-directed game.
