The useful shortlist is patch-specific: eight archetypes appear in build coverage for patches 0.5.4 and 0.5.5, but those sources do not provide comparable performance data or establish a universal ranking. Use the options below to narrow your choice by ascendancy, playstyle, and progression stage, then follow a guide written for your current patch.
What “Last of the Druids” means
Grinding Gear Games released The Last of the Druids as Content Update 0.4.0. It introduced the Druid class and its Oracle and Shaman ascendancies, along with more than 20 skills, more than 35 support gems, more than 250 passive skills, and more than 10 unique items. Those are update-content counts, not evidence that any particular build is strongest.
The update also introduced Talismans, two-handed martial weapons used for shapeshifting attacks. Equipping one changes the character into an animal form and grants that form a basic attack; players can swap the chosen form. This is the defining equipment mechanic for shapeshifting approaches, but the current build coverage also includes spell, plant, totem, and minion playstyles.
Eight Druid builds to compare
This is a practical shortlist, not a verified power ranking. The eight builds below come from sources covering two different patch points: the community list tracks builds for 0.5.4, while later coverage provides examples for 0.5.5. A build listed for 0.5.4 should not be assumed current for 0.5.5 without checking its guide.

What later 0.5.5 coverage adds
Grim Pillars Spell Totem Druid
AKRPG’s guide dated September 3, 2026, describes a cold spell-totem setup that uses Entangle to detonate the totems. The guide reports that the build depends on mana management and executing the skill sequence correctly; treat those as the author’s stated tradeoffs, not independently tested findings. Read the guide.
Plant Oracle options
The same 0.5.5 coverage describes a Plant Oracle build. A separate campaign guide updated September 28, 2026, outlines a physical plant-caster route using Entangle, Thunderstorm, Bonestorm, and Thrashing Vines. These are examples of active plant-focused approaches, not proof that one is the best build or that the campaign setup is interchangeable with an endgame version. 0.5.5 coverage · Campaign guide.

A build archive also indexes Grim Pillars Oracle, Entangle and Thrashing Vines Oracle, Walking Calamity Shaman, and Werewolf Oracle. These listings show the range of current concepts; they do not form an exhaustive or objectively ranked top eight. Browse the build archive.
Which Druid ascendancy should you choose?
Choose based on the build you intend to follow, not on an unsupported claim that Oracle or Shaman is universally stronger. Both ascendancies appear across the listed spell and other archetypes. First settle on the build’s core loop—spellcasting, plants, totems, minions, or shapeshifting—then confirm that its guide names the ascendancy and patch you are playing.

How to choose a build that fits
- Match the patch. Find the guide’s stated game patch and compare it with your own. The recommendations here draw on 0.5.4 and 0.5.5 coverage; a 0.4.0 launch-era recommendation is not automatically valid later.
- Match the progression stage. Decide whether you need a campaign or leveling route, a league-start option, early mapping, or an endgame setup. The campaign and endgame versions of a build may differ.
- Pick the combat loop you enjoy. Spell and storm builds, plant skills, totem sequences, minion play, and animal-form attacks ask for different styles of play. The Grim Pillars guide, for example, describes a totem placement-and-detonation sequence; check its instructions if you prefer a lower-input approach.
- Check the actual resource and gear requirements. Look in the individual guide for required uniques, mana or Spirit thresholds, and budget assumptions. The available sources do not establish these requirements consistently across all eight builds, so do not infer them from the archetype name.
- Verify that the guide’s skills and sequence agree. In particular, use the guide’s own setup for links, trigger conditions, and skill order rather than combining pieces from guides written for different patches.
How much confidence to put in a “best” list
The available coverage identifies builds and their intended concepts, but it does not provide independent player-performance testing or comparable clear-rate statistics. POE2Builds.ai’s “top pick” is that site’s opinion. Treat these options as a starting point for choosing a playstyle, and use a patch-matched guide for the actual skill setup and progression plan.
