Release dates come from US-facing schedules, so availability may differ by territory.
Netflix: three new arrivals and two returning anime seasons
Netflix’s official October 2–8 guide highlights Below, which Tudum describes as “a six-episode thriller.” It stars Josh Hartnett as a Newfoundland fisherman whose community faces a mysterious sea creature. The weekend calendar also dates two returning anime seasons, offering very different alternatives to the thriller.

Those entries include a dating-themed series, a documentary about Michael Schumacher’s first Formula 1 world championship, and a drama told through a bond formed by letters. These Disney+ listings are from the service’s October 2026 programming calendar. The same schedule lists Scrubs season 2 as a two-episode premiere on October 2, but it is a Hulu release, not a Disney+ title. Hulu describes J.D. returning to Sacred Heart as chief of medicine and mentoring new interns alongside Turk and Elliot.

HBO Max: a new HBO original, plus animated and unscripted picks
The October 2–4 HBO Max entries below come from Tom’s Guide’s schedule, a secondary calendar rather than an official HBO Max release list. It names several kinds of programming, so these picks should not be mistaken for a slate of scripted dramas.
The Torment season 1 — October 2
Tom’s Guide identifies this as an HBO original series and lists it for Friday. It is the schedule’s clearest new scripted-series selection for viewers looking for a drama-oriented option.
