A German player says VALORANT blocked access after they installed a secondhand Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and that Riot support connected the restriction to the processor’s previous use. That remains an allegation: the coverage does not reproduce Riot’s messages or independently verify that the CPU caused the restriction.
What the buyer says happened
Digital Citizen reported on October 2, 2026, that a German player bought a used Ryzen 7 5800X3D through Kleinanzeigen. According to the player’s account, VALORANT worked with the system’s previous CPU but became inaccessible after the swap. The buyer said Riot support associated the processor with an earlier hardware restriction dated August 12; the reported purchase date was September 21. Digital Citizen’s report attributes those details to the buyer and does not include the support correspondence.
The buyer also reportedly said the motherboard and storage drive later appeared to be restricted, and that Riot did not lift the restriction. Those claims are likewise unverified: the published account does not establish how Vanguard identified any component or demonstrate that the processor caused the restriction.
What the reporting does—and does not—confirm
PCWorld also covered the allegation and said it had sought comment from Riot, Valve and Epic. Its coverage is a second report of the same account, not independent proof of the buyer’s explanation. Neither report supplies evidence that this particular Ryzen 7 5800X3D was flagged, or that a restriction followed the CPU to a new owner.

Riot’s official Vanguard Restrictions guidance explains that Vanguard can restrict a computer’s access to Riot games in some circumstances when it detects conditions it regards as facilitating cheating. The page describes the VAN: RESTRICTION message as indicating settings that need to be changed to remove a restriction. It does not confirm this incident, identify the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a cause, or explain the alleged component-by-component behavior.
If you encounter a VALORANT restriction
- Record the exact message. Note the error code and any instructions shown on screen. Riot’s restriction guidance is the relevant starting point for understanding a VAN: RESTRICTION notice.
- Contact Riot through its official VALORANT support ticket page. Describe what changed before the restriction appeared and provide the error details. If the PC or parts were bought used, explain that fact without presenting the buyer’s account in this report as proof of what happened to your system.
- Keep relevant purchase and support records. Retain the listing, transaction details and any messages with the seller, alongside Riot’s response. If you consider seeking a remedy from the seller, check the applicable marketplace terms and local rules; those vary and are not established by this incident report.
Riot support is the documented route for an individual restriction, but the available sources do not promise that a restriction will be reversed or that a secondhand-hardware explanation will change the outcome.
