Buy the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller if price is your priority and you only need dependable wireless control and motion features. Choose the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller if you want the smoothest first-party integration, the dedicated GameChat button, remappable GL/GR rear buttons, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
The Ultimate 2C is the value play, but its March 2025 review price of $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 should be treated as a historical reference rather than a guaranteed current store price. Nintendo’s controller offers capabilities the 2C does not match, so the extra cost makes sense only when those Switch 2-specific features matter to you.

Quick verdict
| What matters most | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest purchase price | 8BitDo Ultimate 2C | Nintendo Life listed it at $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 in a review dated 19 March 2025, describing it as roughly half the price of Nintendo’s Pro Controller. |
| Switch 2 system integration | Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | It has a dedicated C button for GameChat and is designed as Nintendo’s first-party controller for the console. |
| GameChat access | Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | The C button opens the GameChat menu. |
| Rear-button customization | Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | Its GL and GR buttons can be freely remapped. |
| Headset connection | Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | It includes a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones and headsets. |
| Motion controls | 8BitDo Ultimate 2C | 8BitDo documents Bluetooth connectivity and six-axis motion control. |
| Familiar Nintendo feel | Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | Players accustomed to Nintendo’s Pro Controller shape avoid the 2C’s more vertical grip angle. |
| Cross-platform plans | Depends on the exact 2C SKU | Verify the model, firmware and supported platforms before buying; regional listings and versions can differ. |
For most Switch 2 owners, the decision is therefore straightforward: select the 2C for inexpensive basic play, or pay for Nintendo’s controller when its exclusive controls and audio features will be used regularly.
What the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C offers
The Ultimate 2C is a budget-oriented wireless gamepad intended to provide the core functions needed for Switch play without matching every feature of Nintendo’s first-party hardware. 8BitDo lists Bluetooth wireless connectivity and six-axis motion control. That gives you cable-free input and motion-sensitive aiming or steering in games that support it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Its strongest argument is value. Nintendo Life’s 19 March 2025 review listed the controller at $29.99 in the United States, £24.99 in the United Kingdom and €29.99 in Europe. The review characterized that figure as approximately half the price of Nintendo’s Pro Controller and called the 2C a compelling alternative. Prices change by country, retailer and promotion, so use those figures as the dated reference they are, not as a current guaranteed checkout price.
The 2C is most attractive when you want a second controller for multiplayer, a replacement for a worn or missing pad, or a less expensive way to play docked. It covers the fundamental tasks—sticks, buttons, wireless operation and motion input—without asking you to pay for Switch 2-only conveniences you may never use.
What the 2C does not establish from the available specifications
The cited specifications do not provide a verified battery-life figure, latency measurement, durability rating or failure-rate statistic. Do not choose it on the assumption that it matches Nintendo’s endurance or wireless performance; no published number in the supplied material supports that conclusion.

Also check the exact product name. “Ultimate 2C” and “Ultimate 2” are related but different models. Features or test results for the Ultimate 2 cannot automatically be applied to the 2C. Confirm that the listing is specifically for the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, then check the firmware notes and the seller’s stated Switch 2 support.
What the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller adds
Nintendo’s controller is built around Switch 2 integration rather than a low entry price. Its distinguishing functions are physical controls and connections that the 2C does not provide in the cited material.
Dedicated C button for GameChat
Pressing the C button opens the GameChat menu. That puts Nintendo’s voice and communication controls on a dedicated button instead of requiring you to pause play and navigate system menus. If you use GameChat frequently, the button can be more important than a small difference in stick or grip preference because it changes how quickly you can reach the feature.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Freely mappable GL and GR buttons
The rear GL and GR buttons can be mapped to other inputs. You can assign functions that would otherwise require moving a thumb from a stick or reaching across the face buttons. This is useful in action games, shooters, racing games and accessibility setups where keeping both thumbs in position matters. The value depends on your games and habits: if you never use rear inputs, the buttons become unused hardware rather than a benefit.

3.5 mm audio jack
A built-in 3.5 mm jack accepts compatible headphones and headsets directly through the controller. That can simplify docked play and voice communication by keeping a wired headset connection at hand. The Ultimate 2C’s cited feature list does not include an audio jack, so buyers who want controller-connected audio should choose Nintendo’s model.
Charging time
Nintendo’s specification page lists approximately 3.5 hours to charge the Switch 2 Pro Controller. That is a charging-time figure, not a battery-life claim. No comparable battery-runtime number is established here for the Ultimate 2C, so a battery-endurance comparison would be speculative.

How the choice changes by player type
Choose the Ultimate 2C for a budget second controller
If your main requirement is another wireless pad for local multiplayer, the 2C addresses that need at a substantially lower historical price. You receive Bluetooth and six-axis motion control, which covers ordinary controller use and motion-enabled titles. The savings are especially meaningful when you need two or more extra controllers rather than replacing your only premium pad.
Before ordering, verify that the listing names the Bluetooth Ultimate 2C rather than another Ultimate model. Then confirm the firmware and the seller’s Switch 2 compatibility information. A low price is not useful if the particular regional SKU does not behave as expected with your console.

Choose Nintendo’s controller for GameChat sessions
Frequent GameChat users should favor the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Its C button is a dedicated entry point to the GameChat menu, so the feature is part of the controller’s physical layout. The 2C’s documented controls do not include an equivalent dedicated button.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Choose Nintendo’s controller for wired headset use
If you play docked with headphones or a headset and want the cable plugged into the controller, Nintendo’s 3.5 mm jack settles the question. The cited 2C information does not document a matching audio connection. This is a practical equipment decision, not a cosmetic extra: it can determine whether your existing headset fits your preferred setup.
Choose Nintendo’s controller for rear-button layouts
Players who use paddles or rear buttons to keep their thumbs on the sticks can map the GL and GR buttons on Nintendo’s controller. That can reduce hand movement in games with simultaneous camera and action demands. If your games do not benefit from extra inputs, do not pay for this feature solely because it appears on the specification list.
Choose the 2C when you want motion control at the lowest documented price
8BitDo explicitly lists six-axis motion control for the Ultimate 2C. For motion aiming, steering or gesture input, that specification gives the 2C a clear reason to exist beyond being a cheaper conventional pad. It does not establish identical tuning, latency or battery endurance compared with Nintendo’s controller, so treat motion support as compatibility rather than proof of equal performance.

Nintendo Life describes the Ultimate 2C’s grips as more vertical than Nintendo’s Pro Controller. A more upright angle can feel natural to some hands, while players accustomed to outward-angled Pro Controller grips may notice the change immediately. This is the kind of difference that affects long sessions more than a feature checklist does.
If possible, compare the shape in a store or borrow one before committing to a primary controller. Pay attention to whether your wrists remain relaxed, whether your middle fingers naturally reach the triggers, and whether the stick positions feel comfortable during games that require constant camera movement. A controller that is technically compatible but uncomfortable will not be a good value.
Switch 2 compatibility and firmware checks
Compatibility should be verified at the model level. The Ultimate 2C name identifies a family and regional listings can differ. Check all of the following before purchase:

- The listing says Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, not Ultimate 2 or another 8BitDo model.
- The seller identifies the correct regional version for your market.
- The current firmware notes mention the Switch 2 behavior you need.
- The return policy covers pairing or feature problems if the listing is unclear.
For Nintendo’s controller, the Switch 2-specific functions are part of the product’s documented design: C for GameChat, remappable GL/GR buttons and a 3.5 mm jack. That makes it the lower-risk choice when you need those features to work without checking a third-party model’s firmware history.
When pairing either controller, use the Switch 2 controller settings and follow the on-screen pairing instructions. If the console does not detect the pad, charge it, confirm that it is in the correct pairing mode, restart the console and recheck the model and firmware information before assuming the hardware is defective.

The only specific price in the cited material is Nintendo Life’s March 2025 review figure for the Ultimate 2C: $29.99, £24.99 or €29.99. That review called it approximately half the price of Nintendo’s Pro Controller. Neither statement guarantees what a retailer charges now, and the price may vary with region, stock and promotions.
Nintendo’s Pro Controller price is not stated in the cited material, so this comparison should be framed as “lower-cost 2C versus higher-priced official controller,” not as a current numerical price gap. Check the live price in your country and compare it with the value of the features you will actually use.
A simple value calculation helps:
- Write down whether you need GameChat access from the controller.
- Mark whether a 3.5 mm headset connection is required.
- Mark whether you will use GL/GR rear-button remapping.
- Confirm that you want motion control and Bluetooth wireless operation.
- Check whether you need the pad to work on platforms beyond Switch 2.
- Compare the current prices only after those requirements are clear.
If the first three requirements are all “no,” the 2C’s lower price is likely to matter more than Nintendo’s additional hardware. If any of them is a firm “yes,” Nintendo’s controller may justify its premium because the 2C cannot replace those specific functions based on the documented features.

Treating a review price as a live price
The $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 figure belongs to Nintendo Life’s 19 March 2025 review. It is useful for understanding the intended value position, but it is not a current Amazon or retailer quote.
Paying for features you will not use
Rear-button mapping, GameChat access and a headset jack are valuable only when they fit your play style. If you play quietly, never use rear inputs and mainly need a second wireless controller, the 2C may deliver the better outcome.
Ignoring hand shape
The 2C’s more vertical grip can be a meaningful adjustment for Pro Controller users. Consider comfort over multi-hour sessions rather than judging only by the feature list.
Assuming cross-platform support
Verify the exact 2C SKU and firmware before counting on PC or other-platform compatibility. Regional listings can differ, and the supplied specifications do not establish universal support.
Which controller should you buy?
Buy the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C when:
- You want the lowest documented entry price for a wireless Switch controller.
- You need Bluetooth and six-axis motion control.
- You are buying a spare or multiplayer controller.
- You do not need a dedicated GameChat button.
- You do not need GL/GR rear-button mapping.
- You do not need a 3.5 mm headset jack on the controller.
- You have verified the exact SKU and firmware for your Switch 2.
Buy the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller when:
- You want first-party Switch 2 integration with the least uncertainty.
- You use GameChat and want the physical C button.
- You will map GL and GR rear buttons.
- You connect headphones or a headset through a 3.5 mm jack.
- You prefer Nintendo’s established Pro Controller grip shape.
- You are willing to pay more for features the 2C does not document.
The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C is the sensible budget recommendation, while Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller is the complete-feature recommendation. Decide by identifying whether the Nintendo-exclusive controls and audio connection are essential; if they are not, save the money with the 2C, and if they are, buy Nintendo’s controller rather than trying to work around missing hardware.
