8BitDo’s new wireless Xbox controller is the Ultimate 3E Controller for Xbox, an officially licensed gamepad with two interchangeable ABXY modules: silicone for a smoother feel or micro-switch for a more tactile feel. The buttons are part of a swappable module, not individual switches you replace one by one. The box also includes alternate controls, a charging dock, a 2.4G adapter and a travel case.
What actually swaps on the Ultimate 3E?
8BitDo describes the face-button assembly as a swappable ABXY module. The included silicone module and micro-switch module let players choose between two button feels; the manufacturer calls the options “Smooth or tactile.” The product page also lists an interchangeable standard D-pad and alternate joystick shapes: tall, dome and thick-neck. These are modular control components, not a claim that every button is an individually replaceable switch. 8BitDo’s product page shows the manufacturer’s listed modules and accessories.

#1 Best Overall
- Officially Licensed by XBOX - Compatible with XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Connect to XBOX via the charging dock with the 2.4G adapter kept inside. On Windows PC, use the USB-C 2.4G adapter directly or through the dock. Bluetooth is for mobile devices.
- Designed for Pros, Defined by You - Customize the feel your way with swappable ABXY modules, standard or circular D-pad options, and multiple joystick styles to match different playstyles.
- Integrated Wireless Charging Dock - Wireless charging with zero contact points. Faster, more reliable. Magnetic alignment ensures precise placement. Lift the controller to auto-reconnect and jump into the action instantly. Keep the controller adapter in the dock, connect the dock to your XBOX console or Windows PC via USB to extend the wireless signal and reduce gaming latency. (Toggle in Ultimate Software X.)
- Hall-effect Impulse Triggers with 2 Trigger Stops - Switch between two trigger-stop levels to instantly adapt to shooters, racing games, and action titles.
- TMR Joysticks & RGB Fire Rings - TMR joysticks paired with a 12-bit ADC sampling chip deliver enhanced precision and stability, while interactive RGB Fire Rings provide real-time visual feedback.
Features and limits on Xbox versus PC
The controller’s listed hardware includes TMR joysticks, Hall-effect impulse triggers with two trigger stops, two back buttons, remappable L4/R4 fast bumpers, RGB joystick rings, three custom profiles and a 3.5mm audio jack. 8BitDo also lists an integrated wireless charging dock.
Two advertised capabilities are specifically limited to PC: 6-axis motion control and polling rates of up to 1000Hz. The manufacturer says the 1000Hz figure is for an ideal environment based on its own lab result; it is not an independent test, and neither feature is supported on Xbox consoles. A high polling-rate figure should therefore not be read as an Xbox performance specification.

Ultimate 3 Xbox
The similarly named Ultimate 3 Xbox is a separate controller. Xbox Wire’s September 1, 2026 roundup describes that model as having a wireless charging dock and adjustable joystick tension, with 2.4G and wired connections for Xbox and PC and Bluetooth for mobile devices. Those details do not identify the Ultimate 3E’s swappable ABXY modules.

Arcade Controller for Xbox
The 8BitDo Arcade Controller for Xbox is a large, all-button arcade controller rather than a conventional gamepad. Its product page lists a hot-swappable PCB, 16 Kailh Wizard low-profile mechanical switches, wired and 2.4G connections, and a 3000mAh battery. Its FAQ says it has no vibration and that LT/RT are digital rather than analog. These are features of the Arcade Controller, not the Ultimate 3E.
