This ranked shortlist balances the FM24 database figures published by Football Manager Blog—current ability (CA), potential ability (PA) and asking price—with FM Scout’s recommendation scores. The rankings are editorial, not an official in-game order; the sources use different list criteria and database snapshots, so figures and availability can vary by save.
How to read this FM24 goalkeeper ranking
FM Scout’s goalkeeper list reflects the 24.4 patch (revision 5, updated 10 April 2024) and includes 35 players. Its recommendation score is the author’s personal rating, not a game attribute. Football Manager Blog’s table, displayed 25 October 2024, reports CA, PA and asking prices for its FM24 list. The rank below weighs those figures alongside FM Scout’s score where available; it is a practical shortlist, not a controlled in-save comparison.

In these sources, “wonderkid” is an editorial label rather than a standardized guarantee. FM Scout uses a threshold of PA 150 or higher and age 20 or under as of 3 July 2023. Its guide also explains that some PA values are randomized bands: for example, -10 corresponds to 170–200 and -9 to 150–180. A player’s assigned potential can differ by save, and high PA does not guarantee development.

CA, PA, age, club and asking price in the table are Football Manager Blog’s FM24 figures as displayed on 25 October 2024; the score is FM Scout’s separate personal recommendation rating from its revision 5 list. “Not stated” means that the cited table does not supply that figure. These are game-database values, not real-world performance assessments or current club and transfer information.

1. Bart Verbruggen — strongest blend of readiness and ceiling
Verbruggen leads this ranking because he combines the highest reported CA in the comparison with a PA of 165 and an FM Scout score of 84. That makes him the clearest choice here if you want a prospect who is less of a long-term project than the teenagers below him. The trade-off is the table’s £69M asking price, by far the highest reported in this group.
2. Guillaume Restes — capable young starter with room to grow
Restes has the second-highest CA in this comparison (121), a PA of 157 and an FM Scout score of 84. He is a balanced option for a club that wants a young goalkeeper closer to first-team usefulness than most teenagers, without paying Verbruggen’s listed price. Football Manager Blog lists his asking price as £18.75M.

- The best-selling, incredibly realistic football management drives on with over 1,000 improvements and enhancements in Football Manager 2014. The 3D match engine has seen extensive improvements, including enhanced AI, improved lighting and player animation, individual player character and kit models, more realistic player reaction to on-field incidents and a range of optimisations which combine to make this the best looking and fastest FM Match Engine yet. On the pitch, redesigned tactics management makes the player roles and team strategies even more prominent. Improvements to rival managers’ AI allow them to adapt their tactics more readily over time.
- FM 2014 features a revamped transfer module where opposing clubs and managers adopt a more realistic approach when making or responding to transfer offers. In addition, a number of new ‘real world’ transfer clauses have been added, such as the facility to loan a player back to the club he’s just been bought from and the option to offer a combination of cash and loan players, as well as new contract clauses such as a sub bench appearance fee. On top of this, the old ‘turn-based’ system of transfer negotiations can now be done two ways, the tried and tested system and a new ‘live’ system, similar to that used in FM’s contract negotiations.
- The 3D match engine has seen extensive improvements, including enhanced AI, improved lighting and player animation, individual player character and kit models, more realistic player reaction to on-field incidents and a range of optimisations which combine to make this the best looking and fastest FM Match Engine yet. Major changes have also been made to FM 2014’s user interface. Key areas have been redesigned – including the training overview page, the transfer centre and the news homepage – while widespread changes have been made across the game’s user interface. The language employed throughout the game has also enjoyed a major overhaul and now corresponds more closely to the language of real world football.
3. Jonas Urbig — high ceiling, solid starting ability
Urbig’s reported PA of 164 is level with Callai’s and just below Verbruggen’s, while his CA of 118 is the third-highest in this table. FM Scout rates him 82. At a listed £25.5M, he costs more than Callai but starts from a stronger CA in Football Manager Blog’s figures.
4. Diego Callai — a lower-cost route to a high PA
Callai’s PA of 164 gives him one of the highest reported ceilings on the list. His CA is 103, so he is a more developmental signing than Verbruggen, Restes or Urbig. Football Manager Blog lists £9.75M, and FM Scout gives him 82.
Rank #3
5. Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro — the top FM Scout score
Owusu-Oduro has the highest FM Scout recommendation score among the six players for whom that list’s scores are supplied: 85. Football Manager Blog’s cited table does not provide his CA, PA, age or price, so those figures cannot be compared here. He is worth scouting if you are following FM Scout’s recommendations, but the score alone is not a substitute for checking his attributes and valuation in your save.
6. Dennis Seimen — an inexpensive long-term project
Seimen’s reported PA is 151, with CA 102, and FM Scout rates him 83. At £3.2M in Football Manager Blog’s table, he is the most affordable of the players in the ranking with an FM Scout score. His age of 17 also makes a development plan and a realistic route to playing time important.
Rank #4
7. Callan McKenna — the youngest prospect in this comparison
At 16, McKenna is the youngest player in Football Manager Blog’s table. The source reports CA 90, PA 162 and an £8M asking price. His strong potential figure comes with a low starting ability, so he suits a patient club able to plan his development rather than one seeking immediate first-team cover.
8. Froilan Díaz — modest outlay for a high-potential prospect
Díaz has a reported CA of 101 and PA of 157. His listed asking price of £4.5M is comparatively low among the players with published prices here. He is a longer-term option, not a ready-made answer in goal.

9. Tommaso Martinelli — a budget-friendly development signing
Martinelli’s listed CA is 90 and PA 154. Football Manager Blog reports an asking price of £2.5M, the lowest in this ranking. That price makes him an appealing project for a club with time to develop a young keeper, but his CA points to a substantial gap between prospect and immediate starter.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which goalkeeper should you sign?
- For the best blend of starting ability and potential: Verbruggen, if your budget can meet the listed asking price.
- For a younger keeper with comparatively strong CA: Restes or Urbig, depending on which valuation and attributes fit your save.
- For high PA at a lower listed price: Callai is the standout balance; Seimen, Díaz and Martinelli cost less but are more developmental.
- For FM Scout’s highest personal recommendation score: scout Owusu-Oduro in your own database, since the comparison table does not establish his CA, PA or asking price.
Before making an offer, check the player’s profile and transfer status in your save. The published list values are tied to particular FM24 database snapshots; negotiations, club circumstances and randomized potential can make your in-game experience differ.
How to develop a young goalkeeper
Potential only matters if the player gets an opportunity to improve. FourFourTwo’s January 2025 guide emphasizes playing time and advises sending a goalkeeper on loan only where he is likely to play. For a keeper who is not ready to start for your senior side, assess a loan destination’s first-choice situation rather than treating a loan as development by default. If regular minutes are not credible, keep him in a role where he can train and gain appropriate match experience rather than leaving him without a clear pathway.
