95client.dll Errors: Find the Caller and Repair Windows

Length11 min Posted Quest giverVGSources Team

Start with this diagnostic checklist

Before replacing anything, record three details:

  1. Which program or executable triggers the message? Note the application name shown in the dialog, if any.
  2. When does it appear? A message at sign-in usually points to an obsolete startup entry. A message after launching one application usually means that application cannot find its DLL.
  3. Is the requesting application 32-bit or 64-bit? 95client.dll is associated with old Windows software, but its architecture has not been publicly verified. Do not guess its architecture from the filename.

95client.dll is described as the Universal Undo Client Library, associated with Universal Undo from CyberMedia, Inc. It is not a Windows component or a Microsoft runtime. The safest repair is to repair or reinstall the original Universal Undo installation, if that software is still present and wanted.

Do not download an isolated copy from a random DLL website. An unknown copy can contain malware, belong to the wrong application, use the wrong architecture, or fail because the real problem is a missing parent program or dependency.

What 95client.dll is

Public file records identify 95client.dll as an application DLL belonging to Universal Undo, a legacy product developed by CyberMedia, Inc. It should be treated as third-party software rather than as part of Windows.

There is no file-specific evidence that Microsoft supplies it through Windows, Windows Update, Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, a driver package, System32, or SysWOW64. The exact executable that originally loaded the DLL and the original installer package have not been reliably identified.

  • Stay in touch with friends and family with Microsoft Teams, which can be seamlessly integrated into your taskbar. (1)

Some catalogs list version and hash information for the file, but those values are indexing metadata rather than a verified release record from an original CyberMedia installer. The file’s architecture is also not publicly confirmed.

That distinction matters. A missing Windows system file may call for SFC or DISM. A missing application DLL normally calls for repairing or reinstalling the application that owns it.

What the error means

Windows may show wording such as:

  • 95client.dll is missing
  • 95client.dll was not found
  • 95client.dll could not be located
  • Error loading 95client.dll
  • Cannot find 95client.dll

The exact file-specific variants are not confirmed screenshots of particular user cases. They are labels commonly associated with this filename.

If the message appears while opening a program, Windows has attempted to load the application or one of its dependencies and could not obtain 95client.dll. The DLL may have been deleted, quarantined, moved, or left behind as a reference after an incomplete uninstall.

A damaged or incompatible copy can also produce a generic Bad Image message stating that the file is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error. That wording identifies a broader loading problem, not necessarily a Windows system-file failure.

Fix 1: Repair the program that requests the DLL

This is the fastest legitimate repair when the original application is still installed.

Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Find Universal Undo or the application that displays the error.
  4. Select its three-dot menu.
  5. Choose Advanced options.
  6. Select Repair, if Windows provides that option.
  7. Start the application again.

A successful repair normally means that the original program opens without the 95client.dll message. If the error remains, return to the same page and use Reset only if you understand that it can remove the application’s stored settings or data.

Traditional desktop programs may not show Advanced options. For those:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press the Windows key and search for Control Panel.
  2. Open Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select the suspected program.
  4. Choose Repair or Change, if available.
  5. Follow the installer’s instructions.
  6. Restart Windows and test the program.

Windows 10

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
  2. Select the application.
  3. Choose Advanced options, if available.
  4. Select Repair.
  5. Test the application again.

For older desktop software, use Control Panel > Programs and Features, select the program, and choose Repair or Change.

If you cannot find Universal Undo, do not install a random DLL to satisfy the error. Continue with the startup and application-identification checks below.

Fix 2: Reinstall the original application

If Repair is unavailable or does not restore the file, reinstall the parent application from its original trusted installation media or from a software publisher’s official installer.

Use this order:

  1. Save any documents or settings belonging to the application.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
  3. Locate Universal Undo or the program that triggers the message.
  4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Restart Windows if prompted.
  6. Run the original installer as an administrator.
  7. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
  8. Complete the installation.
  9. Open the application and check whether the error returns.

If the program is a game or launcher, use its built-in file verification before removing it. The exact menu depends on the launcher. Verification can replace files belonging to that application without mixing in files from another installation.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

If reinstalling the parent program does not help, capture the complete error and the path shown in it. The displayed DLL may be a dependency of a different executable, or the application may be loading an incompatible file from an unexpected directory.

No current official CyberMedia installer or support package for the historical Universal Undo software has been located. If you no longer have trusted original media, uninstalling the obsolete program is safer than obtaining a loose DLL.

Fix 3: Check whether antivirus software quarantined it

Security software may remove a DLL after detecting it as suspicious. A quarantine event does not prove that the file was malicious, but restoring an unknown copy is unsafe.

Windows Security

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & security > Windows Security.
  3. Open Virus & threat protection.
  4. Select Protection history.
  5. Look for an event involving 95client.dll or the application that uses it.
  6. Review the detected file path and threat details.

If the file came from trusted original installation media and the detection is demonstrably false, follow Windows Security’s instructions to restore it. Microsoft warns that restoring a genuine threat can put the device at risk, so do not restore a file merely because an application requests it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the file was downloaded from an unknown source, leave it quarantined and reinstall the parent application from trusted media instead. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan if the DLL was in an unexpected folder or keeps reappearing.

Fix 4: Remove an obsolete startup reference

A common pattern with old software is an error at every sign-in even though the original program is gone. Windows is trying to launch a leftover startup command that points to a deleted DLL or its former application.

Check Startup apps

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select Startup apps on Windows 11, or the Startup tab on Windows 10.
  3. Look for an entry related to Universal Undo, CyberMedia, or an unknown program.
  4. Right-click the entry and choose Open file location, if available.
  5. Check the executable’s name and folder.
  6. Disable the entry only after confirming that it belongs to the obsolete program.
  7. Restart Windows.

You can also check Settings > Apps > Startup. Disable only the entry associated with the missing application. Do not disable unrelated startup items simply because their names are unfamiliar.

Check Task Scheduler

  1. Press the Windows key and search for Task Scheduler.
  2. Open Task Scheduler Library.
  3. Review tasks whose actions launch the old application or reference its installation folder.
  4. Double-click a task and inspect the Actions tab.
  5. If it clearly belongs to the removed program, right-click the task and choose Disable.
  6. Delete it only when you are certain it is an orphaned task.

If the program is still installed, uninstall it through Windows rather than deleting its startup reference first. Removing only a startup item can leave the application partially installed.

If the error began immediately after a recent cleanup, installation, or system change, System Restore may help when a restore point exists:

  1. Press the Windows key and search for Create a restore point.
  2. Open it and select System Restore.
  3. Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
  4. Review the affected programs and drivers.
  5. Start the restore.

System Restore can change applications, drivers, and settings. Back up important files first.

Fix 5: Run Windows component repair

SFC and DISM repair Windows components. They do not normally recreate a third-party CyberMedia DLL, so use them when other Windows files are also failing or the error began with wider system corruption.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
  4. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for the command to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the affected program again.

Microsoft documents these commands for repairing missing or corrupted Windows system files. If SFC reports that it repaired files but 95client.dll is still missing, that result is expected for an application-owned DLL. Repair or reinstall the parent program.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Repeating SFC and DISM without identifying what changed can be time-consuming, especially when the missing file belongs to obsolete software. If you are unsure which Windows component is damaged and want an automated scan to identify repair issues, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling Universal Undo remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.

Fix 6: Install a runtime only when the error names it

Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because 95client.dll is missing. There is no file-specific evidence that this DLL belongs to any of those Microsoft runtime packages.

Use the complete error message as the deciding factor.

Visual C++

If the dialog separately names files such as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime DLL, install the matching package from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • vc_redist.x86.exe is for 32-bit applications.
  • vc_redist.x64.exe is for 64-bit applications.
  • A 64-bit Windows installation can need both when it runs applications of both architectures.
  • Older applications may require an older Visual C++ generation rather than only the newest package.

Installing a runtime will not supply 95client.dll.

DirectX

Use Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime only when the application identifies legacy DirectX files such as d3dx9_*.dll. It is not a source for 95client.dll.

.NET

Install the required version from Microsoft’s .NET installation guidance only if the application identifies .NET as a dependency.

Windows Features

You can review optional Windows components at Settings > System > Optional features > More Windows features on Windows 11, or by searching for Turn Windows features on or off. Enabling a feature will not normally restore an application DLL, and enabling unrelated legacy components can introduce compatibility or security concerns.

Fix 7: Update or reinstall a related driver only when identified

A driver is not a likely source of 95client.dll. Do not use Device Manager as the first repair path unless the error appears alongside a graphics, audio, storage, or other hardware failure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the complete error identifies a device or the application depends on a specific driver:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the relevant device category.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Choose Update driver.
  6. Select Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows.

If the device remains faulty, download its driver from the hardware manufacturer or computer manufacturer. Avoid replacing a system driver with an unrelated package.

Manually comparing dozens of driver versions is tedious when the actual problem is an outdated device package. Outbyte Driver Updater can show what its free scan identifies; driver installation is performed by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Universal Undo parent application.

Do not use regsvr32 as a default fix

regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for self-registering OLE and ActiveX components that provide a DllRegisterServer entry point.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Most ordinary application and runtime DLLs do not need registration. Running:

regsvr32 95client.dll

may produce an error such as “the module was loaded but the entry point was not found” or “the module may not be compatible.” That does not mean Windows needs a different copy in System32.

Use regsvr32 only when the application’s documentation specifically says that this DLL is a self-registering component and gives the correct registration procedure. Otherwise, repair or reinstall the application.

Do not copy the DLL into System32 or SysWOW64

Copying 95client.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is not a safe general solution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Windows normally searches the application directory early when loading a DLL. The correct authentic copy therefore normally belongs beside the requesting application unless that program’s documentation specifies another location. A file copied into a system directory can create version conflicts, hide the actual installation problem, or introduce DLL-preloading risk.

If you recover a copy from original installation media, let the installer place it. Do not mix a DLL from another Windows installation or another program.

If the repair still fails

Collect these details before making further changes:

  • The complete dialog text
  • The executable name shown in the message
  • The full path to 95client.dll, if displayed
  • The application that triggers the message
  • Whether it appears at sign-in, during shutdown, or after launching a program
  • Your Windows version and system architecture
  • Whether the application is still installed
  • Antivirus Protection history
  • Any recent uninstall, cleanup, update, or system restore
  • Whether other applications report missing or damaged files

If the message appears on every boot, inspect Task Manager Startup apps, Task Scheduler, installed-program history, and Event Viewer to identify the caller. Do not delete files until you know which program launched them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If several unrelated Windows files are failing, check Windows Update at Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, then investigate disk or system corruption. Microsoft’s Windows Update guidance covers the normal update path.

FAQ

Is 95client.dll a Windows file?

No evidence supports that conclusion. Public records associate it with Universal Undo, a legacy third-party application from CyberMedia, Inc.

Is 95client.dll a virus?

The filename alone cannot establish whether a copy is safe. Check its location, digital signature if present, antivirus history, and provenance. A copy from an unknown DLL download site should not be trusted.

Why does the error appear after reboot?

An old startup command or scheduled task may still be trying to launch Universal Undo or another program that depended on it. Check Startup apps and Task Scheduler before deleting anything.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does it appear only when I open one program?

That program may be missing its own DLL, may have an incomplete installation, or may be trying to load a dependency from the wrong location. Repair or reinstall that application first.

Should I download 95client.dll?

No. A loose DLL can be malicious, incompatible, or unrelated to the program that needs it. Use the original application installer or remove the obsolete application.

Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?

Only if the complete error separately identifies one of those dependencies. None is established as the source of 95client.dll.

Will SFC restore it?

Normally no. SFC and DISM repair Windows components, while 95client.dll is associated with third-party application software.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I delete the file?

Do not delete it merely because its name is unfamiliar. If the parent application is unwanted, uninstall that application first. Then remove only a confirmed orphaned startup or scheduled-task reference.

What is the correct final fix?

If Universal Undo or its parent application is still needed, repair or reinstall it from trusted original media. If it is obsolete and no longer wanted, uninstall it and disable or remove the confirmed orphaned launch entry.
