To get the Recycler in 99 Nights in the Forest, upgrade your Crafting Bench to Tier 5, then spend the reported 40 Wood, 40 Scrap, and 1 Gem of the Forest on the Recycler recipe. Place the finished structure in your base, drop a supported gem onto its conveyor belt, and collect the converted resources beside the machine. Current guides describe two routes: Gem of the Forest to Cultist Gems, and Cultist Gems to Scrap. Escorenews reports that one Gem of the Forest produces 8 Cultist Gems.

What the Recycler does
The Recycler is a late-progression structure that converts certain valuable materials rather than processing ordinary junk. The documented chains are:
- Gem of the Forest → Cultist Gems. Escorenews reports a yield of 8 Cultist Gems for one Gem of the Forest.
- Cultist Gem → Scrap. The cited guides confirm the conversion, but do not establish a consistent Scrap quantity per Cultist Gem.
That makes the Recycler a resource-conversion option, not a general-purpose recycling bin. You cannot assume that every item in your inventory belongs on its belt. Junk such as bolts, sheet metal, fans, radios, microwaves, tires, chairs, and old engines is described as Grinder material instead.

The machine is intentionally expensive and arrives only after the highest listed crafting-bench tier. It is most useful when gems are surplus to your remaining upgrades or when a specific Cultist Gem or Scrap shortage is blocking your next objective.
Requirements and reported costs
You need to pay for two separate unlocks: the bench upgrade and the Recycler itself. Do not reserve only the Recycler materials; the Tier 5 upgrade consumes its own Wood, Scrap, and gem.

The names “Forest Gem” and “Gem of the Forest” appear in different guides. Before confirming either craft, read the exact label shown in your game so you do not confuse the Tier 5 bench ingredient with the Recycler input.
How to unlock the Recycler
1. Reach the Tier 5 bench
Open your crafting interface and upgrade the Crafting Bench through the available tiers until Tier 5 is unlocked. The March 2026 guide from Pro Game Guides lists 50 Wood, 50 Scrap, and 1 Forest Gem for this final upgrade. Gather those materials before you begin the Recycler run; spending the only gem on another recipe can delay access to the machine.
2. Gather the Recycler materials
After the bench is Tier 5, set aside 40 Wood, 40 Scrap, and 1 Gem of the Forest. These are in addition to the 50 Wood, 50 Scrap, and 1 Forest Gem used by the bench upgrade. If you are converting fragments, four Gem of the Forest fragments are reported to combine into one complete Gem of the Forest.

3. Select the Recycler recipe
At the Tier 5 bench, locate the Recycler entry and verify its live ingredient list. Secondary guides agree on the 40 Wood, 40 Scrap, and 1 Gem of the Forest recipe, but the game can change recipes in an update. If the in-game panel differs, follow the panel for your current server version.
4. Craft the structure or blueprint
Confirm the recipe to create the Recycler structure or placement blueprint. Keep the resulting item available on your hotbar or in the placement menu; crafting it alone does not start a conversion.
5. Place it inside your base
Choose a flat, accessible position in the base and place the machine. Leave open floor around the conveyor exit and sides where items may appear. Pro Game Guides describes the Recycler as a craftable structure, while TechWiser and Roonby emphasize positioning it where you can collect output. A crowded corner can make finished resources difficult to see or pick up.
How to use the Recycler
- Stand close enough to interact. Approach the placed Recycler and identify the conveyor belt; that belt is the loading surface.
- Choose an eligible input. Start with a Gem of the Forest or Cultist Gem, depending on the conversion you need. The published guides do not establish that ordinary junk is accepted.
- Drop the item onto the belt. Move or drop the supported item so it lands on the conveyor rather than on the surrounding floor. The machine should pull the item through its processing path.
- Wait for the cycle to finish. The item travels through the structure. Avoid placing unrelated items on the belt while it is occupied.
- Collect the output beside the machine. Roonby and TechWiser describe resources appearing on the ground near the Recycler after processing. Pick them up before leaving the base and keep the area clear for the next cycle.
The belt is a physical loading point, not a storage chest. If a dropped item remains on the floor, reposition it directly over the belt and try again. If the item disappears into the machine, search the nearby ground for the result rather than expecting it to appear in your inventory automatically.
Documented conversion routes
Gem of the Forest to Cultist Gems
This is the clearest reported use. Place one Gem of the Forest on the belt and let the Recycler process it. Escorenews reports an output of 8 Cultist Gems per Forest Gem. Because that quantity is a news-site report rather than an official specification, verify the result in your current game before committing a rare gem.

Use this route when Cultist Gems, rather than the original Forest Gem, are the resource blocking a recipe or objective. Check your upcoming crafting and raid plans first: converting a gem removes the original item and may leave you unable to meet another requirement.

The guides also describe Cultist Gems as an input that can be turned into Scrap. They do not provide a sufficiently consistent Scrap-per-gem figure, so the exact return should be read from the live machine result. Do not budget a fixed number of Scrap until you have confirmed it on your server.
This route can make sense when Scrap is your immediate bottleneck and your Cultist Gems are excess. It is not automatically profitable: the Recycler itself costs 40 Scrap, and the machine is intended for late-game conversion rather than early Scrap farming.
What the cited material does not establish
- No reliable Scrap quantity per Cultist Gem is established.
- No published list confirms that weapons, food, tools, or every material can be recycled.

The unofficial Resources reference groups junk by the Scrap icons it yields: bolts and sheet metal are shown as one-icon items, fans and radios as two-icon items, and larger salvage such as microwaves, tires, chairs, and old engines among higher-icon items. Those examples belong to the Grinder workflow. Feeding them to the Recycler is not supported by the cited evidence.

When building the Recycler is worthwhile
Build it now if you have a defined bottleneck
- You already have Tier 5 and can pay the 40 Wood, 40 Scrap, and 1 Gem of the Forest cost without delaying a more important recipe.
- You need Cultist Gems for a known objective and have a spare Forest Gem.
- You have Cultist Gems left over after progression and need Scrap, with the live machine showing an acceptable return.
- Your base has enough open floor to collect outputs reliably.
Wait if the cost competes with progression
- Your only Forest Gem is still needed for the Tier 5 upgrade or another locked recipe.
- Scrap is scarce enough that spending 40 on the machine would delay essential gear, shelter, or repairs.
- You are still processing a large pile of junk; the Grinder is the documented station for that material.
- You cannot verify the current recipe because a recent update changed the crafting panel.
A simple decision test is to compare the next objective you can complete with the conversion against the objective you postpone by spending the input gem and 40 Scrap. The Recycler is a flexibility tool, not a universal multiplier.

The Recycler recipe is missing
Confirm that the Crafting Bench itself displays Tier 5, not merely that you have collected Tier 5 materials. Reopen the bench after upgrading, check that the Recycler is not hidden behind a structure category, and verify that the server has loaded the current crafting update. If the live panel still lacks it, the recipe may have been moved or changed.
You cannot afford the recipe after upgrading
Remember that the bench upgrade and machine are separate purchases. The reported combined requirement is 90 Wood, 90 Scrap, and two gem units if you count one Forest Gem for the bench and one Gem of the Forest for the Recycler. The labels may differ in the interface, so use the exact current names shown by the game.
The dropped item does nothing
Make sure the item is on the conveyor belt, not beside the machine. Test with a documented input: a Gem of the Forest or Cultist Gem. Ordinary junk is associated with the Grinder, and the available guides do not say the Recycler accepts it. If the item still does not move, pick it up, place it at the belt center, and try again after the machine is clear.

Search the floor immediately around the Recycler, especially near the conveyor exit and the sides of the structure. Output is described as dropping nearby rather than entering your inventory automatically. Clear surrounding decorations and storage so a resource cannot be hidden behind another object.

The result differs from a guide
Check the publication date and the recipe panel in your current session. The cited guides were published around March 21–22, 2026, and the fan references are unofficial. A patch can change costs, accepted inputs, or yields. Record the live result before processing your remaining rare gems.
Practical resource-planning checklist
- Upgrade the bench to Tier 5 before reserving Recycler materials.
- Keep 40 Wood and 40 Scrap separate from the 50 Wood and 50 Scrap needed for the reported bench upgrade.
- Confirm whether you need the original Forest Gem for another recipe.
- Place the Recycler where the belt and output area remain visible.
