But the available coverage does not show that creator Koyoharu Gotouge recently unveiled it or explained it in a new statement. The distinction matters: this is a story explanation, not a confirmed creator announcement.
What is the Selfless State?
A recent OpenGames article describes the Selfless State as a mental state that conceals a fighter’s fighting spirit. In the article’s account, that matters because Akaza’s Compass Needle senses fighting spirit and uses it to respond to opponents. Tanjiro’s state therefore frustrates that ability; it is not described as a direct boost to his strength or speed. OpenGames’ explanation is secondary coverage, not a quotation or confirmed explanation from Gotouge.
How does Tanjiro use it against Akaza?
Tanjiro reaches the state during the confrontation with Akaza, Upper Rank Three, while fighting alongside Giyu. Shueisha’s official Volume 18 synopsis places the battle there and connects Tanjiro’s breakthrough to a state associated with his father’s teaching. For readers following the licensed English manga, VIZ lists Chapter 152 in the relevant sequence. The manga is the place to read the scene itself; a publisher synopsis is not a substitute for its details.

Is the Selfless State the same as the Transparent World?
They should not be treated as interchangeable terms. The secondary account describes the Selfless State in terms of suppressing the fighting spirit Akaza detects. The official Volume 18 synopsis refers more generally to Tanjiro reaching a state connected with his father’s teaching; it does not define the Selfless State or establish a technical comparison with the Transparent World. The exact relationship should be read from the licensed manga rather than inferred from the publisher summary.
Did Gotouge unveil it, and is it proven to be the series’ rarest power?
The headline claim that Gotouge “unveils” the power is not supported by the sources cited here: the recent article identifies the Selfless State but provides no direct Gotouge quotation or evidence of a new announcement. Likewise, its claim that only three characters used the ability—and its identification of Tanjiro, Tanjuro, and Yoriichi—has no primary verification in the cited publisher material. The phrase “rarest power” is therefore best understood as that article’s framing, not a verified ranking across the series.

The same secondary article uses the label “Domain of Supremacy,” but the available official listings do not confirm that as the licensed English name. Avoid treating it as official terminology without checking the manga’s licensed text.

Shueisha’s Volume 18 listing and VIZ’s Chapter 152 page provide a direct route to the manga confrontation. The sources cited here do not establish specific differences between the manga and a film adaptation, so claims about what an adaptation changes—or whether it presents the ability differently—would need to be checked against the adaptation itself. Demon Slayer Volume 18 is the relevant collected volume for the fight.
