There is no universally best armor set in Black Myth: Wukong: the right choice depends on your chapter, the set bonus you can activate, and how you fight. The picks below are organized by use case and progression rather than presented as a tested power ranking. Check each piece’s current in-game effect text before spending materials; the available guides do not establish October 2026 balance or provide controlled comparisons.
How to choose armor in Black Myth: Wukong
Start with the bonus, not a small difference in defense. A set that rewards your stance, mobility, or a particular risk-taking style may help more than a modest raw-defense gain—especially when you can activate its relevant bonus without replacing equipment your build relies on. This is a practical selection principle, not a measured rule.
- Check the piece threshold: some effects require multiple pieces from the same set. Count what you can equip before committing.
- Match the bonus to your habits: a conditional damage effect is less useful if you rarely meet its condition.
- Consider the fight: prioritize a set effect, resistance, recovery, or utility that addresses the encounter over defense in isolation.
- Upgrade with a purpose: spend materials to solve a current fight, route, or set-bonus plan, rather than upgrading every piece automatically. This is guidance from Black Myth Guide’s November 10, 2025 upgrade guide, not a measured rule: armor upgrade guide.
Gamer Guides describes armor crafting as becoming available at the Guanyin Temple Shrine in Chapter 1, with more recipes arriving through story progress, boss defeats, or quests. Its guide also describes set effects tied to wearing multiple pieces from the same set: armor crafting and set guide. The progression notes below reflect that guide and the available editorial shortlist; they are not a complete, independently verified catalog of current effects.
Early-game options
1. Pilgrim — for early access and mobility-oriented play
Availability: Gamer Guides lists Pilgrim as craftable at the Guanyin Temple Shrine in Chapter 1, making it the clearest early recommendation in this group. Bonus and use: the shortlist identifies it as a mobility-oriented option, but the available source material does not establish the exact piece threshold or full current effect text. Read the in-game description to confirm what your equipped pieces activate and whether the benefit fits your movement habits. Tradeoff: its early availability makes it useful to consider, not automatically worth upgrading; compare its active effect with the defense or utility you need for the next encounter.

2. Ochre — a Chapter 2 progression choice
Availability: Gamer Guides places the Ochre recipe after defeating Yellow Wind Sage at the end of Chapter 2. Bonus and use: the available evidence does not give its exact effects or piece thresholds, so it cannot be responsibly assigned a more specific build role here. Check the recipe and in-game set descriptions when it unlocks, then compare its bonus with your current setup. Tradeoff: it arrives after the early game; do not treat it as an opening-hours option or spend materials based on an assumed effect.
Offensive and specialized picks
3. Yaksha Outrage — high-risk offense
Availability: the available shortlist does not establish a reliable unlock point or full acquisition requirements. Bonus and use: one editorial selection describes Yaksha Outrage as an offensive option for low-health play: its two-piece bonus strengthens Pillar Stance, while its four-piece effect adds attack power. That makes it a candidate for players deliberately accepting low health to pursue damage, not a general recommendation for safer play. Tradeoff: the low-health condition increases risk, and the available description does not specify the amount of the effects. Confirm the exact wording and thresholds in your game before building around it. The recommendation is an editorial pick, not an objective tier placement: editorial armor-set shortlist.

4. Centipede — shortlist pick with effects to verify
Availability: the available sources name Centipede but do not establish an unlock point. Bonus and use: the shortlist includes it among its recommended sets, but the evidence here does not establish its exact effects, piece thresholds, or a supported combat niche. Inspect the set descriptions in-game and choose it only if the effect supports your build or the encounter. Tradeoff: without a verified effect and progression point, it cannot be compared fairly with sets whose bonuses are described.
5. Golden — shortlist pick with effects to verify
Availability: the available sources name Golden but do not establish when or how it unlocks. Bonus and use: it appears in the editorial shortlist, but the material available here does not specify its current bonus, piece threshold, or best-fit playstyle. Let the in-game effect text—not the name or a ranking—decide whether it suits your build. Tradeoff: no specific upgrade burden or encounter advantage is established in the cited material.

Late-game and secret-area rewards
6. Bull King — a late, secret-area set
Availability: Gamer Guides places Bull King’s set after the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast in Chapter 5’s Bishui Cave secret area. This is a missable-in-progression-style detour relative to the ordinary chapter route, so expect a late-game unlock rather than an early upgrade. Bonus and use: the available source material does not specify its exact effects or piece thresholds. Check the current in-game descriptions when the recipe becomes available, then judge whether its effect addresses your build or the fight ahead. Tradeoff: access depends on reaching the secret area and defeating its boss; this is not a practical option for earlier chapters.
7. Monkey King — pieces earned across multiple bosses
Availability: Gamer Guides describes Monkey King set pieces as drops from four different bosses, rather than one simple early recipe. Plan around gradual acquisition as you progress. Bonus and use: the available evidence does not give exact thresholds or effects, so check which pieces you actually own and what bonuses your combination activates. Tradeoff: collecting the set depends on multiple boss rewards; do not assume the full set is available as soon as one piece drops.

Three more sets: verify before investing
The available material identifies only seven named recommendations with enough context to discuss: Pilgrim, Ochre, Yaksha Outrage, Centipede, Golden, Bull King, and Monkey King. It does not establish three additional set names together with reliable unlocks, exact effects, and piece thresholds. Rather than invent three picks or pass off unverified names as recommendations, use the following checks to assess other sets you encounter:
- Read the set’s piece thresholds and effect text in your current game version.
- Confirm how and when its recipe or pieces become available.
- Decide whether you can activate the useful bonus without giving up a more valuable effect.
- Upgrade only when the materials support a specific encounter, route, or build plan.
The official update notice available here is for Patch 1.0.13.16669, announced December 13, 2024, with an update time of December 14, 2024, 10:00 (UTC+8): official update notice. That dated notice does not establish the latest version or the October 2026 balance state, so use your in-game descriptions for current effect details. The official Steam listing also names Folk Opera armor among Digital Deluxe Edition contents; those Deluxe items are not required for the recommendations in this guide: Black Myth: Wukong on Steam.
