10 Biggest Differences Between MLB The Show 24 and The Show 23

MLB The Show 24 adds a female-player career, a Draft Combine, Derek Jeter Storylines and a second Negro Leagues season. Here’s what changed from 23—and what did not.

MLB The Show 24’s biggest changes are a female-player Road to the Show career, a Draft Combine, a Derek Jeter Storyline and a second season of Negro Leagues Storylines. Diamond Dynasty’s roster rules also changed, and the game documents pitch-clock and pitcher-disengagement rules in more detail. The Show 23, however, had already introduced major features of its own—including the first Negro Leagues Storylines season, Sets & Seasons and Captains—so they are not 24 debuts.

Here are ten practical differences for players choosing between the two editions. This is a feature-based comparison, not an official ranking of importance or a verdict on which game plays better.

1. Road to the Show adds a female-player career

MLB The Show 24 lets you create and play as a female ballplayer in a dedicated Road to the Show storyline. The game’s manual frames it as being the first female player in MLB history within the game’s career scenario; it is a feature description, not a claim about baseball history beyond the game. The manual also identifies Mia Lewis as your friend and rival in this path. Read the MLB The Show 24 manual.

The Show 23’s manual describes Road to the Show through features such as face scanning, dynamic challenges, on-field training and progression refinements. The dedicated female-player storyline is a new option in 24.

2. The Road to the Show narrative and Draft Combine change

The Show 24 adds more specific dialogue choices with coaches, agents and friends, giving the career mode more narrative interaction. It also brings back a Draft Combine: three mini-games affect a player’s draft position. The 24 manual documents these career features.

The 23 manual instead emphasizes face scanning, dynamic challenges, training and progression/interface improvements. These are differences in the editions’ documented career features; they do not establish that one career mode is better to play.

3. Derek Jeter gets a dedicated Storyline

MLB The Show 24 adds a career retrospective focused on Derek Jeter. Xbox Wire describes it as combining interview footage, historical video and gameplay moments. Xbox Wire’s feature on the Jeter Storyline explains the format.

The Show 23 introduced the Negro Leagues-focused Storylines mode, but it did not include this 24 Jeter retrospective.

4. Negro Leagues Storylines continues with Season 2

The Negro Leagues Storylines mode began in MLB The Show 23 with Season 1. In 24, it continues with Season 2, narrated by Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Xbox Wire said the 24 season would feature 10 new Negro League Legends, with content arriving at launch and in later free drops; it also reported that Season 1 players would be included at 24’s launch. See Xbox Wire’s account of Season 2 and the 24 manual.

That makes the historical content cumulative across the two editions: 23 is where the mode started, while 24 carries that season forward and adds a new one. The published feature descriptions do not quantify the time needed to complete the content or assign it a monetary value.

  • In Diamond Dynasty streamlined programs provide you clearer goals and more rewards based on how you play the game.
  • New to MLB The Show this year is gameplay styles along-side new gameplay onboarding tutorials to help new users learn the game.

5. Diamond Dynasty changes its roster-building structure

Diamond Dynasty was not new to either edition, and The Show 23 had already substantially changed how players built teams. Its Sets & Seasons structure, Captains, two-way cards and Unlimited Program Rewards are part of 23’s feature set. In 24, the documented structure includes Core cards, Season-specific cards, Cornerstone Cards and the ability to use multiple Wild Cards from past seasons. The official manuals for 23 and 24 describe the respective systems.

So the distinction is a changed roster-building framework, not a brand-new card-collection mode. The manuals document the card categories and rules, but they do not establish that one edition’s rules are more enjoyable or balanced.

6. MLB The Show 24 documents a pitch clock

The 24 manual says the pitch clock is enabled by default. It starts at 20 seconds with runners on base and 15 seconds with the bases empty, and can be disabled for offline modes. These are the documented settings in the game manual, not a comparison of measured pace or match length. Consult the 24 manual for the pitch-clock rules.

  • Take control of your favorite team, focus on the key streamlined in-season moments and see if you can get to the Playoffs and beyond
  • Build your fantasy team of players from across all eras of baseball’s history as Diamond Dynasty returns for another season
  • Collect player cards, build your dream squad, and play head-to-head against other players online and offline while customizing your team’s look

The Show 23 manual mentions MLB pitch-timer rules generally, so it would be inaccurate to say that 23 had no timer-related implementation at all. The clearer difference is the specific clock behavior and settings documented for 24.

7. The 24 manual spells out pitcher disengagement limits

In 24, a pitcher can disengage from the mound at most twice during a plate appearance. The limit resets after a successful pickoff or when a runner advances. This is a separate rule detail from the pitch clock, and the manual documents it as an in-game mechanic. See the pitcher rules in the 24 manual.

8. Franchise changes are more specifically documented for 23

The Show 23’s documented Franchise updates include changes tied to the collective bargaining agreement, a new postseason format, balanced schedules, a competitive-balance tax, and an overhauled Draft with scouting and logic improvements. These were part of 23’s feature changes, not additions to attribute to 24. The 23 manual details those Franchise and Draft changes.

Nintendo describes The Show 24 as having more in-depth and dynamic March to October gameplay. That supports a March to October update, but the available official feature descriptions do not support calling 24 a similarly broad Franchise redesign. Nintendo’s MLB The Show 24 page lists the game’s modes and features.

9. The Show 24 carries forward historical content from 23

For players who skipped 23, 24’s inclusion of the Season 1 Negro Leagues players at launch means they can encounter that earlier Storylines content in the newer edition, alongside Season 2 and the Jeter Storyline. This is a continuity point, rather than a separate new mode: Season 1 originated in 23, and 24 adds to the collection. Xbox Wire describes the Season 1 carryover and Season 2 additions.

10. Progress does not transfer from 23 to 24

Progress in Diamond Dynasty, Franchise, Road to the Show and March to October does not carry into the next annual game, according to the official support article. That means a save or mode progression in The Show 23 does not become progress in The Show 24. The same support page separately explains that cloud saves can be shared across consoles within the same edition when accounts are linked; that is not year-to-year transfer. Read MLB The Show support’s progression and cloud-save guidance.

Which edition should you choose?

  • Choose 24 for its new career and Storylines content: the female-player Road to the Show path, Draft Combine, Derek Jeter retrospective and Negro Leagues Storylines Season 2 are the clearest additions.
  • Compare Diamond Dynasty rules before switching: 24 changes the card and Wild Card structure, while 23 already introduced Sets & Seasons and Captains.
  • Do not expect your 23 progress to carry over: progression in the listed modes resets between annual editions.
  • Do not infer a technical or gameplay-performance win from feature lists: the official feature descriptions establish modes and rules, not comparative graphics, frame rate, or broad gameplay superiority.
