There is no official, permanent ranking of Fortnite’s rarest skins in the evidence available here. A more reliable way to judge a skin’s rarity is to look at when it was released, whether Epic later brought it back, and whether that availability was limited to a particular event or shop. An old last-seen date alone does not prove an outfit will never return.
What are the rarest Fortnite skins?
Epic’s December 20, 2024 announcement documents the release and return history of four classic Chapter 1 Season 1 items: Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper outfits, plus the Raider’s Revenge pickaxe and Aerial Assault One glider. The announcement is a useful historical record, not an official ranking of the rarest skins or proof of what is available now. It does not establish ownership counts or a comprehensive rarity score for every outfit.
| Item | Original availability | Documented later availability | 2024 OG Season Shop XP threshold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renegade Raider outfit | Chapter 1 Season 1, 2017 (Epic Games) | Returned in the OG Season Shop, which ran through January 30, 2025 (Epic Games) | 1,500,000 XP (Epic Games) |
| Aerial Assault Trooper outfit | Chapter 1 Season 1, 2017 (Epic Games) | Returned in the OG Season Shop, which ran through January 30, 2025 (Epic Games) | 1,000,000 XP (Epic Games) |
| Aerial Assault One glider | Chapter 1 Season 1, 2017 (Epic Games) | Included in the OG Season Shop through January 30, 2025 (Epic Games) | 500,000 XP (Epic Games) |
| Raider’s Revenge pickaxe | Chapter 1 Season 1, 2017 (Epic Games) | Included in the OG Season Shop through January 30, 2025 (Epic Games) | 2,000,000 XP (Epic Games) |
These XP figures were unlock requirements for that past shop, not rarity statistics. Epic said XP from any Fortnite experience that grants XP could count. The OG Season Shop was available inside Fortnite, not through the online Item Shop. Its end date was January 30, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET; those are historical details, not current purchase instructions. Epic Games’ announcement describes the event.
Is Renegade Raider still rare?
Renegade Raider remains a notable early Fortnite outfit, but its 2017 release does not make it permanently exclusive: Epic brought it back in the OG Season Shop in 2024–25. Epic’s announcement establishes that return, but does not verify whether the outfit is available in Fortnite now. Its current availability should be checked against the live official shop or a newer Epic announcement rather than inferred from old last-seen dates.

Can you still get Aerial Assault Trooper?
Epic’s documented return of Aerial Assault Trooper was part of the OG Season Shop, which ended January 30, 2025. That historical return does not establish present availability, and the evidence here does not confirm a later one. Check Fortnite’s live official shop or Epic announcements for a current status before assuming it can or cannot be obtained.
Did Renegade Raider come back to the Item Shop?
Epic said Renegade Raider returned in the OG Season Shop, a shop available inside Fortnite rather than the online Item Shop. That distinction matters: calling the event a return to the “Item Shop” can imply a different purchase route. The OG Season Shop’s stated run ended in January 2025.
What made old Fortnite skins rare?
Early release timing and limited past availability can make an outfit feel scarce, but they do not establish how many players own it or whether Epic will offer it again. The four Chapter 1 Season 1 items above had a documented later return, so their original release date alone cannot support a claim that they are unobtainable forever. No player ownership counts, drop probabilities, or comprehensive official rarity statistics are established by the sources cited here.

Why do some original owners have different styles?
Epic distinguished the returning base outfits from styles reserved for people who had purchased them in 2017. In its December 20, 2024 announcement, Epic wrote: “To show our appreciation for those who purchased the Outfits in 2017, you’ll receive an exclusive new Style for Renegade Raider and/or Aerial Assault Trooper early next year.” This was a historical promise about styles, not a claim that the base outfits remain exclusive or that either is currently available.
Epic also said original owners of Raider’s Revenge or Aerial Assault One would receive new styles in spring 2025. These owner-specific styles are distinct from the items that returned in the OG Season Shop.
Is there an official Fortnite guide to rare skins?
Hachette lists FORTNITE (Official): Battle Royale Survival Guide, a hardcover Epic Games handbook with ISBN 9780316491266, on sale May 7, 2019. It is a survival guide published in 2019, not a current catalog or ranking of rare skins. Hachette’s publisher listing gives its bibliographic details.
