What Bethesda’s teaser said
On April 21, 2025, Bethesda posted an image featuring “IV” in the Oblivion font, with an armored mask in the background. The post said “Tomorrow, 11:00 am EST” and pointed viewers to Bethesda’s YouTube and Twitch channels. The associated YouTube livestream was titled “All will be revealed….” These details were reported at the time by Game Informer.
The teaser did not confirm a remaster, its platforms, or a release date. Those questions were answered the next day.
What Bethesda revealed on April 22
Bethesda Game Studios announced and launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on April 22, 2025. The studio said development began in 2021 and credited Virtuos as its partner. The initial release was for Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and PC, according to Bethesda’s launch announcement.

Bethesda described the project as a remaster rather than a remake: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” The studio’s stated aim was to preserve the original game’s core while modernizing its presentation and selected systems.
What the remaster changes
In its extended look at the game, Bethesda said the remaster uses Unreal Engine 5 tools to enhance visuals and performance. The features below are Bethesda’s descriptions, not independent performance measurements.
- Presentation: New landscapes and character models, real-time lighting, improved lip synchronization, and newly recorded dialogue.
- Movement and combat: Sprinting, rebuilt locomotion and combat animations, and an updated third-person camera.
- Progression and interface: A redesigned leveling system inspired by both Oblivion and Skyrim, alongside UI and UX updates.
The same article quotes Virtuos executive producer Alex Mur-phy: “Oblivion is the heart and soul of the Remaster.”
Where to play it now
As of October 4, 2026, Bethesda’s official product page lists Oblivion Remastered for Xbox, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Bethesda announced the Switch 2 release for August 11, 2026; its product page lists Switch 2 Patch 1.1, dated September 17, 2026.

What the editions include
Edition contents depend on platform and format. Bethesda’s Switch 2 announcement distinguishes the physical Deluxe cartridge from the digital Deluxe Edition, while Bethesda’s product page describes Standard Edition contents.
