How to use these January 10 Pips hints
Pips is a digital domino-placement puzzle: every tile must fit the grid, and the numbers in each colored region must meet its displayed condition. Depending on the region, that can mean an exact sum, matching values, all different values, or a greater-than or less-than bound. The complete Easy placement is not stated here because the available written accounts conflict. The archive’s text walkthrough begins with a 3-0 domino placed horizontally and gives later steps, but its final Easy board is embedded in an image that has not been verified. A Yahoo Tech search-result snippet instead gives “6-2, placed horizontally”; the result could not be checked against the full page. That snippet alone is not enough to establish the complete board or resolve the discrepancy. The archive walkthrough and Yahoo Tech’s date-specific result are the two accounts.

- The Yellow region requires a total greater than 9, which makes the orientation of a 5-1 domino important.

- Start with the Green 11 condition: the archive identifies 6-5 vertically for that region.
- Then use the Blue 2, Yellow 1, Purple greater-than-5, and Light Blue 4 constraints to narrow the next placements.
- Once the tight regions are accounted for, use the remaining board and tile values to place the less restrictive dominoes.

Work from constraints that leave the fewest possible choices, rather than placing tiles by trial and error. Exact small sums and unusual values are often useful starting points; equality conditions can point toward doubles, while high thresholds can reserve large values. After each placement, reconsider the remaining regions and tile options. This is a general solving approach, not a tested claim about a guaranteed method.
