What’s actually slowing this PC down?

There is no single best graphics preset for every PC. Start with your resolution and frame-rate goal, then decide whether ray tracing matters more to you than performance headroom. Use Ubisoft’s 2020 PC configurations as historical reference points—not a guarantee of how the game will run on your system—and compare changes with the in-game benchmark and representative gameplay.
Choose your target before changing graphics settings
Identify your GPU, the resolution you want to play at, and whether you want ray tracing enabled. Those choices are linked: Ubisoft’s launch-era configurations call for substantially different hardware depending on resolution and whether ray tracing is on. They are reference configurations, not individualized prescriptions or current buying advice.
Ubisoft’s PC requirements distinguish ray tracing disabled from ray tracing plus DLSS. The examples below show how its stated GPU and memory requirements rise across selected targets. Ubisoft also lists CPU, storage, and operating-system requirements; consult its page for full configurations and the applicable DX12-only note.
| Ubisoft configuration (2020) | Graphics card and VRAM | System RAM |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p Low, ray tracing disabled | GeForce GTX 970 or GTX 1650, 4 GB | 8 GB |
| 1080p High, ray tracing disabled | GeForce GTX 1060 or GTX 1660 Super, 6 GB | 8 GB |
| 1080p High, RT Medium, DLSS Quality | GeForce RTX 2060, 6 GB | 16 GB |
| 1440p Very High, RT High, DLSS Quality | GeForce RTX 3070, 8 GB | 16 GB |
| 4K Ultra, RT Ultra, DLSS Performance | GeForce RTX 3080, 10 GB | 16 GB |
For the 4K Ultra configuration, Ubisoft also lists a 20 GB HD texture pack. These are publisher-stated configurations from 2020; they do not establish a current minimum to buy or promise a particular frame rate. See Ubisoft’s PC system requirements.

Decide whether to use ray tracing
Ray tracing is optional in Ubisoft’s PC target configurations. The RT-enabled examples require stronger listed GPUs and more system RAM than the 1080p ray-tracing-disabled examples, so treat RT as a visual-quality choice that may use performance headroom—not as a setting every PC should enable. Ubisoft’s examples include RT Medium, High, and Ultra, but they do not establish a universal setting or quantify the frame-rate change for an unspecified system.
If your priority is a smoother experience, first establish a stable result without ray tracing, then test RT if your hardware and preferences justify it. If you prefer its visual effects, compare the available detail levels on your own PC rather than assuming the highest level is appropriate.

Use DLSS as a setting to evaluate, not a guaranteed boost
NVIDIA’s Watch Dogs: Legion guidance places DLSS at Options > Video > Quality. NVIDIA describes DLSS as a way to run higher-resolution, higher-detail graphics at higher frame rates, but the result depends on the PC and chosen mode; no specific uplift is guaranteed here. Ubisoft’s example configurations pair DLSS Quality with 1080p High and 1440p Very High, and DLSS Performance with 4K Ultra and RT Ultra. Those are historical examples, not universal recommendations.
To find the setting, NVIDIA says: “To enable DLSS, simply scroll down the list of settings in Options > Video > Quality, and select a DLSS mode.” Read NVIDIA’s Watch Dogs: Legion DLSS guidance.

Compare settings reliably on your own PC
Notebookcheck’s review reports that the game includes an in-game benchmark. Use it to make repeatable comparisons between configurations, then check ordinary gameplay as well: a benchmark result does not guarantee identical performance in every scene.
- Choose the resolution and target experience you care about, and note whether ray tracing is enabled.
- Run the in-game benchmark with your current settings and record the result.
- Change one meaningful setting at a time, then rerun the benchmark so you can see what changed.
- Play representative scenes with the preferred configuration; keep it only if the result also feels right during actual play.
Independent coverage analyzes individual graphics settings, ray tracing, DLSS, CPU testing, and optimized settings, but the available results do not establish a preset that is best for every PC. Notebookcheck’s review discusses the benchmark, while Hardware Unboxed’s analysis covers a range of graphics and performance topics.

Adjust scalable detail controls by testing
Geometry and its Extra Details control are identified as scalable options in an independent settings guide. That does not establish a universally best value for either one. Treat them as candidates for local testing: compare the visual result and benchmark performance on your machine rather than copying a fixed setting without a matching test setup. PCGamesN’s settings guide identifies these controls as scalable.
