To turn off personalized game recommendations, offers, or ads, change the relevant setting on the account, console, game, or operating system where they appear. There is no single switch that covers every platform. Opting out may make recommendations less tailored without removing them, and it does not necessarily stop analytics or data processing needed to operate a service.
First, identify what you want to change
“Personalized game features” can mean several different things: game or store recommendations, promotional offers, targeted advertising, or the collection of usage data for analytics and service improvement. Those controls may be separate. Read the purpose shown beside each setting before changing it, and check every account and device you use; a choice on one platform does not automatically apply to another.
- Recommendations and offers: Settings may limit use of play or purchase history to suggest games, items, or promotions.
- Targeted ads: An advertising preference may limit use or sharing of information for ads, but ads can remain.
- Analytics and service data: A separate data-use choice may govern information used to improve products or services. Turning off recommendations does not necessarily turn this off.
Nintendo Account: opt out of usage sharing for recommendations
Nintendo’s account control separates sharing usage information to improve Nintendo products and services from sharing it to receive personalized offers and recommendations. To change the latter, follow Nintendo Support’s How to Manage Nintendo Account Data Usage Settings instructions:
- Sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Open Privacy and Other Settings.
- Choose Data Usage – Opt-Out Preferences.
- Review the separate choices and turn off sharing for personalized offers and recommendations if that is your aim. Decide separately whether to allow usage sharing to improve products and services.
Nintendo describes the choice as whether to “allow Nintendo to use or share your information to provide you with personalized advertisements, recommendations, or other tailored content.” Its privacy description says usage information can include content played or purchased and services or features used, and may be used or shared for targeted advertising and customized recommendations. Recommendations on Nintendo’s website can be based on play history, require a signed-in account, and depend on allowing Nintendo to customize offers and recommendations (Nintendo Privacy Policy).

For a supervised Nintendo Account
The family group manager must select the child’s account and open its data usage preferences. The available controls and who can change them may differ for supervised accounts; use the family manager’s account rather than assuming the child can change the preference directly.
PlayStation: review account personalization choices
PlayStation account choices cover personal information used to recommend products and services tailored to interests, show personalized ads in Sony services and on third-party apps and sites, and send video or music recommendations from partner services. Use PlayStation’s privacy guidance to locate the personalization choices for your account; do not confuse them with controls for profile visibility or who can communicate with you.

For general privacy settings, PlayStation documents Account Management > Privacy settings online and Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy on PS5. PlayStation says account privacy changes are reflected across devices. Its guidance cautions: “If this is turned off, you may still see offers and recommendations, but they may be less relevant to your interests.” So opting out can change relevance without removing the placements.
Fortnite and Fall Guys: controls differ by game
Fortnite
Epic says eligible players can manage personalized recommendations in Fortnite at Settings > Account and Privacy > Gameplay Privacy. Epic’s explanation of recommendations and ranking says: “If you are eligible to receive personalized recommendations, you can control your personalized recommendations in the Fortnite settings menu, under ‘account and privacy’ and ‘gameplay privacy.’” Availability is eligibility-dependent, so the option may not appear for every player.

Fortnite Discover recommendations may draw on your play history, friends’ and recently played users’ history, and island factors. Epic may also recommend Item Shop items based on user interactions. This Fortnite control should not be treated as a universal Epic advertising opt-out or a setting that stops data collection for every purpose. See Epic Games’ recommendations and ranking explanation.
Fall Guys
Epic describes Fall Guys recommendations as using game information such as play frequency, completion and dropout rates, respawns, and likes or dislikes, at both individual and group levels. The cited Epic explanation does not establish an equivalent user-facing opt-out path for Fall Guys, so do not assume Fortnite’s setting applies to it.

Windows 11 and Microsoft accounts: check both scopes
Windows 11 offers and advertising ID
Windows 11 has a Personalized offers control at Settings > Privacy & security > Personalized offers for tips, ads, and recommendations based on Windows activity. A separate Advertising ID control is at Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers. Microsoft explains that turning off Advertising ID affects apps that use that identifier; it does not reduce the number of ads or cover other methods of interest-based advertising. Microsoft account ads on third-party sites
A Microsoft account has a separate control for sharing data with third parties for personalized ads on third-party sites. That choice has a different scope from Windows offers, console settings, or ads inside a game. Review the account-level preference in Microsoft account ad settings if third-party site advertising is what you want to change.

Xbox: verify the current account instructions
Check the current Xbox recommendations and privacy instructions for the Microsoft account you use on Xbox. Exact Xbox menu labels and steps are not established here, so do not rely on a guessed console path. Also review any separate settings within individual games or services where recommendations or promotions appear.
Use this checklist across your games and devices
- Identify the feature: Is it a game recommendation, store offer, personalized ad, or analytics/data-sharing choice?
- Find its scope: Check the game, platform account, console, operating system, and any separate account controls that apply.
- Read the stated purpose: Distinguish recommendation or advertising personalization from service improvement and service operation.
- Change only the relevant preference: For a child or supervised account, check whether the family manager or guardian must act.
- Check the result: Recommendations or ads may remain, and a setting for one platform or game may not apply elsewhere.
Menu names and eligibility can change. Confirm the current labels on the account and device you use, especially when an option is absent or a platform’s instructions have changed.
