The steps below apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11; the available guidance here does not establish console-specific fixes. On PC, start with your Microsoft account and app updates, then repair or reset the affected app if needed.
First, identify where the game is failing
On a Windows PC, note whether you start the game from the Xbox app or Microsoft Store. Also check whether only one game fails or several do, and save the exact error message or code. These details help distinguish a game-specific problem from an issue affecting a Windows app more broadly.
If you’re on an Xbox console, don’t follow the Windows Settings steps below: PC app menus do not apply to console hardware. The sources available for this guide establish Windows troubleshooting steps, not console-specific launch instructions.
Try these Windows steps in order

Check your Microsoft account and reopen the app
Make sure you’re signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your apps. Close the Xbox app or Microsoft Store, reopen it, and try launching the game again. Install available Windows updates

Update Microsoft Store apps
Open Microsoft Store and go to its Library or Get updates area, depending on the Windows version and Store interface shown on your PC. Check for and install updates, then try the game again. Repair the app, then reset it if necessary
In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find the app that is failing—such as Xbox or Microsoft Store—open its menu, and choose Advanced options. Select Repair if it is available. Reinstall the affected app

If Xbox keeps sending you to Gaming Services
A redirect to the Microsoft Store Gaming Services page accompanied by error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F matches a specific issue Microsoft documented for installing or starting Xbox Game Pass games on certain Windows 10 builds. It is not a universal explanation for games that fail to launch.

Microsoft’s KB5004327 page describes the issue and a resolution involving the June 11, 2021 out-of-band update KB5004476 for the named Windows 10 builds. It also documents an advanced PowerShell workaround that removes Gaming Services packages and service registry entries, restarts Windows, and reinstalls Gaming Services from a prompt in the Xbox app. Because that procedure changes system services and the registry, do not run it for a generic launch failure. If those exact codes persist after ordinary Windows and Store updates and app repair steps, consult Microsoft’s KB5004327 guidance and current Microsoft or Xbox support before attempting advanced recovery.

If the game still will not open
When the standard steps fail, contact Microsoft or Xbox support with the device type, game name, exact error message or code, and whether the issue affects one game or multiple games. Those details help support identify which troubleshooting path applies.
