Choose the Razer Wolverine V4 Pro if you want four removable magnetic back buttons, two extra claw-grip bumpers, customizable trigger travel and Razer’s high PC polling-rate claim. Choose the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 if you want manually adjustable stick tension, four paddles and—if you buy the full package—a charging dock and a broader set of included interchangeable parts. Neither is a proven all-around winner: the choice depends on your preferred controls, platform and package, and these recommendations are based on manufacturer specifications rather than hands-on comparative testing.
How their rear controls differ
Razer: four removable buttons plus two bumpers
Razer describes the Wolverine V4 Pro as having four removable magnetic buttons on the back and two additional bumpers designed for a claw grip. It advertises up to six mappable multifunction buttons overall. The additional controls may suit a layout that moves more actions off the face buttons, but whether their shape and position work for your hands is a personal fit question; no comfort testing is established here. Razer’s October 6, 2026 announcement lists these features.
Xbox: four paddles
Microsoft documents four interchangeable paddles for the Elite Series 2. The paddles can be mapped through the Xbox Accessories app. If you already prefer paddle-style rear controls, the Elite gives you four; if you specifically want removable magnetic buttons and extra claw-grip bumpers, those are part of Razer’s advertised layout. Button feel and placement are not a matter of specification alone.
Stick feel and customization
Elite Series 2: adjust physical tension
The Elite Series 2 has thumbsticks with three manually adjustable tension settings. Microsoft also documents interchangeable stick tops and sensitivity curves configurable in the Xbox Accessories app. This is the clearer fit if you want to change how much physical resistance the sticks provide, as well as tailor their in-game response.

Wolverine V4 Pro: capacitive sensors and interchangeable caps
Razer describes capacitive, contactless thumbstick sensors and six interchangeable thumbstick caps. Those features offer a different kind of customization from the Elite’s adjustable tension. Razer’s drift-resistance language is not a guarantee that drift cannot occur, and the cited specifications do not establish comparative long-term reliability.
Trigger options for different games
Wolverine V4 Pro: adjustable actuation range
Razer says the triggers can switch between a short and full-range pull, with actuation adjustable from 1.3 mm to 8.2 mm. That gives the Wolverine a specified range of trigger adjustment for players who want a shorter action in some games and fuller travel in others. Razer’s feature claim does not establish that it is faster or more accurate in play.

Elite Series 2: hair-trigger locks
Microsoft lists shorter hair-trigger locks on the Elite Series 2. They offer a more direct way to limit trigger travel; the official comparison does not give a matching millimetre range for the Elite, so the two systems cannot be compared as equivalent measured settings.
Platform support, polling claims and software
Wolverine V4 Pro: Xbox, PC and Steam
Razer presents the Wolverine V4 Pro as a wireless controller for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with native Steam support and customization through Synapse. Razer’s October 2026 announcement claims polling rates of up to 250 Hz on Xbox Series X|S and up to 8,000 Hz on PC, wired or wireless. These are Razer-published specifications, not independent comparative measurements. The same announcement says its approximately 3,000 movement-steps figure was measured using the HyperSpeed wireless dongle connected to a PC at 8,000 Hz; it also describes sub-1 ms response times as a company claim. See Razer’s announcement and the Wolverine V4 Pro product page.

Elite Series 2: check the host and connection method
Microsoft lists the Elite Series 2 for Xbox consoles, Windows PCs and select mobile devices, with features depending on the device and connection. Its compatibility notes say Windows 10 and 11 can connect over Bluetooth, the included USB cable or a separately sold Xbox Wireless adapter. Windows 7 and 8.1 require the included cable and have limited functionality. Bluetooth support for Android and iOS is limited to select devices and versions, and some functions may not work. Check the exact host, operating system, connection and game before buying; Microsoft’s compatibility details explain the conditions.
What comes in the box
Elite Series 2 full package versus Core
Microsoft’s full Elite Series 2 package lists the controller, adjustment tool, charging dock, USB-C cable, four paddles, extra thumbsticks, an additional D-pad and a carrying case. The Series 2 Core package contains fewer components. Confirm the listing says full Series 2 if you expect the dock and full set of interchangeable accessories; “Core” is a distinct package, not just another name for the same box.

Wolverine V4 Pro components
Razer lists interchangeable thumbstick caps, removable magnetic rear buttons and a removable faceplate. The cited Razer pages do not establish a separate retail catalogue for replacement parts, so do not assume every swappable component is available to buy individually.

Battery claims are not directly comparable
Microsoft states that the Elite Series 2’s internal rechargeable battery lasts up to 40 hours per charge, with actual results varying by use and other factors. Razer’s Wolverine V4 Pro page gives inconsistent maximum figures—up to 27 hours in its feature section and up to 40 hours in its FAQ—so a single definitive Wolverine figure is not established by that page. The manufacturers’ claims are not a shared battery test.

Verify the local price and exact package
A comparable current street price or stable relative value is not established. Check live listings in your region when you are ready to buy, and compare the Wolverine V4 Pro with the Elite Series 2 package you actually want—full or Core. Availability and price can vary by market and date.
Which controller should you buy?
- Choose the Wolverine V4 Pro if its removable magnetic rear buttons and extra claw-grip bumpers match the layout you want, or if adjustable trigger actuation and Razer’s advertised PC polling options are priorities.
- Choose the Elite Series 2 if manually adjustable stick tension, four paddles and the full package’s charging dock and interchangeable accessories matter more to you.
- Check compatibility before either purchase if you plan to use a particular PC operating system, mobile device, wireless connection or game-specific feature.
- Decide on price only after checking local listings and confirming whether an Elite offer is the full Series 2 or Core.
These are feature-fit recommendations drawn from the manufacturers’ published specifications, not a testing-based ranking. Neither specification sheet establishes that one controller is universally better in responsiveness, comfort or durability.
