The best PS5 Pro alternative depends on what you want to play and how you want to play it: choose Xbox Series X for a traditional home-console option, Nintendo Switch 2 for Nintendo games and handheld/docked play, or a gaming PC if you also need a general-purpose computer and can budget for the complete setup. None is a universal substitute for the PS5 Pro, so compare game libraries and total costs before choosing.
Which PS5 Pro alternative fits your priorities?
| Your priority | Option to consider | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| A conventional living-room console | Xbox Series X | A home-console alternative with disc and digital editions, as compared by TechRadar. |
| Nintendo games and portable play | Nintendo Switch 2 | It works as a handheld or docked console and is the only console that plays Switch 2 games, according to TechRadar. |
| Gaming plus general computer use | Gaming PC | A PC can serve as both a gaming system and a general-purpose computer, but its complete cost varies with components and peripherals. |
| A lower-cost current-generation Xbox option | Xbox Series S | It trades away disc support and some resolution and storage capacity in the configuration described by TechRadar. |
Start with the games you want, then consider whether you mostly play on a TV or want to take a system with you. Only after that compare display needs, physical games, storage, peripherals and any subscription you choose. The available comparisons do not establish a complete current game-catalog or subscription-price comparison.
Xbox Series X: best for a traditional home-console setup
Xbox Series X is the closest fit here for someone who wants another fixed, living-room console rather than a handheld hybrid or a computer. TechRadar’s comparison describes a standard 1TB disc model, a digital model and a 2TB Galaxy Black edition. These are distinct configurations, so check the exact edition before comparing price, storage or physical-media support.
TechRadar’s page reports US prices of $499 for the standard 1TB disc model, $449.99 for the digital model and $599.99 for the 2TB Galaxy Black edition. Its listed UK prices are £479.99, £429.99 and £549.99, respectively; Australian prices are AU$799, AU$699 and AU$999. These are that page’s price snapshots, not verified current shelf prices. Confirm local availability and the precise SKU before buying. See TechRadar’s PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X comparison.

Check the library before switching ecosystems
A console’s value depends on whether it has the games you intend to play. The cited comparison provides feature and edition context, but not a complete, current catalog comparison. Check the specific games you care about and whether you already own them on another platform; do not assume that choosing an Xbox is a like-for-like replacement for access to your existing PlayStation library.
Nintendo Switch 2: best for Nintendo games and hybrid play
Switch 2 is a different kind of alternative: its strongest case is access to Nintendo’s games and the option to play handheld or docked, rather than matching the PS5 Pro as a high-end living-room graphics competitor. TechRadar’s review describes Mario Kart World running at 1440p docked and 1080p handheld at 60fps. That is a review observation about one game, not a performance guarantee for every title. Read TechRadar’s Nintendo Switch 2 review.
Portability changes the trade-off: handheld play can suit travel or shared-screen households, while battery life and the experience of playing on a smaller screen matter more than they do with a console that stays connected to a TV. If your priority is Nintendo’s own games or switching between handheld and docked play, Switch 2 may make sense even though it is not a direct graphics-equivalent PS5 Pro replacement.
TechRadar displayed a $499.99 Switch 2 price in a 2026 deals roundup. That is a source snapshot, not a confirmed current price across regions or editions; check local availability and the exact model before purchase. View TechRadar’s Switch 2 deals roundup.

Gaming PC: best if you also need a computer
A gaming PC is worth considering if you want a gaming system that can also handle general computing and you are comfortable choosing or comparing configurations. Unlike a console, a PC budget is not a single standard price: the graphics card, processor, memory, storage, case, power supply, operating-system license, display and other peripherals all affect the final cost.
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 example estimates $963–$1,200 for core components in an illustrative mid-to-high-end build with a Ryzen 5 7600X3D or similar, an RX 9060 XT 16GB or RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. That component estimate excludes a Windows license, case, power supply and peripherals, and the article notes that component prices fluctuate. It is not a complete-system price or an independent performance test. Tom’s Guide also says comparable prebuilt systems start around $1,000 and can reach $1,600. Read Tom’s Guide’s 2026 PC comparison.
Account for the full setup
Before comparing a PC’s cost with a console, add everything needed to use it: the complete computer, operating-system license if required, monitor or TV, keyboard, mouse, controller if wanted, and any storage additions. A component estimate alone is not a fair console-versus-PC total. A prebuilt system can simplify assembly, but its price and parts vary by model; the cited estimates do not validate one particular configuration.

Xbox Series S is the lower-cost Xbox option to investigate if you are willing to make compromises. In the configuration described by TechRadar, it is digital-only, has 512GB of storage and is capped at 1440p output. That means no disc games and less built-in space than the cited 1TB Series X model. TechRadar identifies expansion as an option, but the usable capacity and cost depend on the specific compatible storage product. Check TechRadar’s Xbox Series S review.

Compare the real cost, not just the console price
Published PS5 Pro prices in the cited comparisons conflict. TechRadar lists $699.99, £699.99 and AU$1,199, while Tom’s Guide’s 2026 PC article describes a $899 PS5 Pro price. The sources do not resolve whether that difference reflects a price change, offer or listing context. Treat both as attributed snapshots, not confirmed current prices, and check your local retailer before comparing purchases. TechRadar comparison; Tom’s Guide 2026 article.
For any option, add the costs that apply to your household rather than relying on a headline price:
- Games: Check the platform for the specific games you want and whether physical copies matter to you.
- Display and controls: Count a suitable TV or monitor and any controller, keyboard or mouse you still need.
- Storage: Consider whether the built-in capacity is enough and confirm compatibility and local price for any expansion.
- Subscriptions: Include one only if you independently choose it; the cited material does not establish current subscription prices.
Storage and expansion: check the exact edition
The cited comparison lists a 2TB SSD for PS5 Pro and a 1TB NVMe SSD for the standard Xbox Series X. Xbox storage options differ from one another: TechRadar identifies proprietary expansion cards and USB storage. Because capacity and compatibility depend on the console edition and the storage product, verify the model’s requirements and current local price before choosing an expansion.
