To counter a Waven team, first identify the opponent’s win condition, then disrupt the setup, access, or timing that makes it work. There is no verified current ranking of popular compositions or matchup win rates in the available sources, so treat the lineup and opening turns as clues—not proof of a meta build. Check which PvP queue and deck system you are entering: Ankama described a competitive-mode redesign in a 2025 announcement, but its present implementation should be confirmed in-game.
Check the PvP queue and deck rules first
Do not assume the team-building rules in a competitive match are the same as your constructed PvE deck or personal build. Ankama’s 2025 Steam Community announcement described a competitive system using preconstructed decks drawn from a limited random selection, with the stated goals of adjusting power differences and avoiding dominant compositions. It also discussed both 1v1 and 2v2 PvP. The announcement is useful context, not confirmation that every detail remains live in October 2026. Check the current queue and available decks in-game before choosing a counter.
Ankama’s Waven team said the announced system was intended to “quickly adjust the power differences between decks, avoid dominant compositions, and guarantee a healthier and more dynamic playing field for everyone.” That is a statement of purpose, not evidence that dominant compositions were eliminated or that the current live meta is balanced. Counter the plan, not an unverified meta label
Use the first turns to work out what the opposing team is trying to accomplish. A lineup or opening move suggests a plan, but does not prove the exact deck, remaining resources, or a specific matchup. Keep your read provisional and revise it when the opponent reveals more spells, equipment, and positioning choices.

- Name the win condition. Is the team building toward one high-impact attack, maintaining pressure over several turns, controlling space, or protecting a durable threat? Describe what you observe rather than assigning a popularity or tier label.
- Find the enabler. Identify the hero, spell, equipment effect, or position that makes the plan work. If the threat needs setup, disrupt that setup or force the opponent to spend actions recovering from the interruption.
- Break access and timing. If the main attacker needs to reach a target or hold a preferred position, make that access costly and avoid offering an easy target. Save defensive resources for the opponent’s likely payoff turn rather than spending them automatically.
- Reduce the benefit of positioning. If a visible threat benefits from grouped targets or a predictable approach, change spacing or approach angles when the live rules allow. Check the actual range, terrain, and area-effect rules in your match; the cited sources do not establish particular Waven interactions.
- Reassess as the match develops. Update your response when the opponent reveals more of the deck and its resources. Do not treat an opening move as proof of the entire plan.
These are general tactical heuristics, not claims that a particular Waven hero has a specific control, movement, area, healing, or damage ability. Fit them to the heroes, spells, equipment, and rules actually present in your queue.
Compare compositions using observable criteria
If you can verify two or more teams in the live queue, compare the mechanics you can observe rather than relying on unsupported tier labels. Record the patch or version, PvP queue, and whether the deck is preconstructed or player-built so that the comparison has useful context.

- Setup dependence: How many actions or turns does the plan need before its payoff becomes a threat?
- Access: Can the main threat reliably reach its target or maintain pressure?
- Resilience: Does the plan still work after its key enabler is interrupted?
- Punish window: What can the opponent do while the team spends resources or repositions?
- Evidence date and mode: Which patch or version and queue does the observation describe, and is the deck preconstructed or player-built?
These criteria are a practical way to assess a matchup, not verified ratings for named current teams.
Use build catalogs without mistaking examples for popularity data
Waven Build describes a catalog of more than 1,200 builds and searchable game elements, including spells, equipment, companions, gods, and weapons. It can help you find candidate builds and check terminology. Its catalog size does not establish which compositions are currently popular, how they perform in matchups, or the site’s ranking method.

Waven Creator exposes user-submitted builds and filters for hero and game mode, including PvP. Use it to inspect examples or compare build components, not to infer popularity or counter success without supporting data.

The cited sources do not establish a current list of popular Waven compositions, composition usage rates, or matchup win rates. Searchable builds show that examples exist; they do not show how often players use them or which teams counter them. The official 2025 announcement explains the intended design of a competitive system but gives no quantitative balance result. For a sound counter decision, rely on the live queue rules and the opponent’s actual choices rather than treating dated build recommendations as current balance evidence.
