To stop a renewal, use the account and billing provider that manages your subscription. Turning off renewal normally keeps your current benefits active until the paid period ends; changing to a cheaper tier is a separate action, and its start date depends on the service.
Before you change a subscription
First check which account and provider bill you. If the subscription does not appear in the service’s account settings, it may have been purchased through a third-party billing provider; manage cancellation with that provider instead.
Look at the renewal or payment date shown in your account. That date is more useful than estimating from a calendar, and the account page can confirm whether renewal is already off. Do not assume that canceling guarantees a refund: refund eligibility depends on the provider and the cancellation flow.
Cancel or change Xbox Game Pass
Turn off renewal
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased Game Pass and open Services & subscriptions.
- Find Game Pass, select Manage, and follow the cancellation prompts.
- Check the status and displayed expiration date. If the page shows Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, Microsoft says the subscription is already set to expire on that date and will not renew.
Switch plans
Microsoft describes the plan-change route as Manage > Change > Switch. The switch option depends on recurring billing being on. Check the account’s available options and dates before confirming; the support guidance cited here does not establish a universal effective date for every plan switch.

Refunds and access
Xbox’s Game Pass information says a subscriber who did not intend to renew and failed to turn off recurring billing may request a refund of the most recent recurring-billing charge by canceling within 30 days of payment. Xbox limits this to one use per Microsoft account per subscription product; it is not a general refund guarantee. Downgrade to a lower tier
PlayStation says a tier downgrade takes effect on the next payment date, not immediately. When it takes effect, benefits exclusive to the former tier are lost. Use the PlayStation Plus plan-change guidance to review the available options for the account and region.

What happens after cancellation
If you cancel, subscription benefits remain available through the end of the already-paid period. After it expires, subscription benefits such as monthly games, online storage, and online multiplayer end.
Cancel or change Nintendo Switch Online
Turn off auto-renewal
Nintendo says to turn off auto-renewal at least 48 hours before the membership expires. Use the Nintendo eShop account information for the account that bought the membership, or the Nintendo Account website. The membership remains active through the end of its term, and Nintendo says it does not refund or credit unused time. Nintendo’s cancellation and auto-renewal instructions cover the Americas.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 instructions say auto-renewal cannot be turned on again in that flow after it has been turned off. Check the current account interface before acting, particularly if you may want renewal restored.
Changing membership plans
Nintendo plan changes are not always an immediate tier switch. For example, a purchaser moving from a family membership to an individual plan generally needs to turn off auto-renewal and wait for the current membership to end before buying the individual plan. Other members of the family group also lose access when the family membership ends. The options depend on the active plan, desired plan, and who purchased the family membership; review Nintendo’s membership-plan change guidance before making the change.
