Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You cannot transfer Pokémon directly from the original Game Boy Advance versions of Pokémon Ruby or Pokémon Sapphire to Pokémon HOME. The documented route passes through later games: first migrate Pokémon to a Generation IV game with Pal Park, then get them into a supported Generation V game, use Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank, and finally move them to HOME. The exact Generation IV-to-V step is not established by the Nintendo instructions cited here, so this is a route overview—not a complete button-by-button tutorial.
First, check which Ruby and Sapphire you have
| Games | What the documented route establishes |
|---|---|
| Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire for Game Boy Advance | Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual lists these games as eligible for migration to Platinum through Pal Park. They do not transfer directly to HOME. |
| Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for Nintendo 3DS | These are separate remakes, not the original GBA games. Nintendo lists them among games compatible with Pokémon Bank; that compatibility should not be mistaken for direct transfer from the original cartridges. |
What you need for the original GBA games
- The original Ruby or Sapphire Game Pak and a working save containing the Pokémon.
- A Nintendo DS system with both a DS Game Card slot and a GBA Game Pak slot. Nintendo’s Platinum manual describes this dual-slot requirement; confirm the exact system model and cartridge condition before acquiring hardware.
- Pokémon Platinum or another compatible Generation IV game. The detailed instructions below are specifically for Platinum; its manual requires that you obtain the National Pokédex first.
- A Generation V game supported by Poké Transporter: Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black Version 2, or Pokémon White Version 2.
- An already working installation of Pokémon Bank and access to Pokémon HOME. Nintendo says Bank is not currently available for download.
Having only a DS and the old GBA cartridge is not enough: this route also depends on later games and access to the legacy transfer apps.
Step 1: Migrate Pokémon from Ruby or Sapphire to Pokémon Platinum
- In Pokémon Platinum, obtain the National Pokédex.
- With the DS powered off, insert the Platinum Game Card and the Ruby or Sapphire GBA Game Pak into their respective slots.
- Start Platinum and choose “Migrate From (version name)” from the game’s menu.
- Go to Pal Park in Platinum and catch the migrated Pokémon there.
This is a one-way migration: Pokémon leave the original GBA Game Pak and cannot be returned to it. Platinum’s manual limits migration to six Pokémon per GBA Game Pak per day. Pokémon holding Mail or knowing a hidden move cannot migrate, so address those restrictions in the GBA game before attempting the transfer.
Step 2: Get the Pokémon into a Generation V game
Nintendo documents Poké Transporter as transferring Pokémon from Black, White, Black Version 2, and White Version 2 into Pokémon Bank. That establishes the Generation V-to-Bank link, but it does not explain the operation for moving Pokémon from Generation IV into Generation V. The Nintendo instructions cited here do not establish the precise procedure or requirements for that bridge.

Do not put the GBA cartridge into Poké Transporter or treat Transporter as a direct Ruby/Sapphire-to-Bank tool. The Pokémon must first reach a supported Generation V game; verify the Generation IV-to-V transfer instructions for the specific games you own before proceeding.
Step 3: Move Pokémon from Bank to HOME
- Open Pokémon HOME on Nintendo Switch and choose the option to move Pokémon from Pokémon Bank.
- In Bank, select “Move Pokémon to Pokémon HOME,” choose the Pokémon or boxes to transfer, and start the move.
- Enter the Moving Key displayed in HOME before it expires. Nintendo says the key is valid for three minutes.
Nintendo also describes an alternative in which the Nintendo Network ID associated with Bank is linked to the Nintendo Account used with HOME. Follow the current on-screen prompts if using that account-linked option.

The move from Bank to HOME is irreversible: Nintendo states that Pokémon transferred to HOME cannot be transferred back to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS titles.
Check the Bank deadline before starting
Nintendo’s end-of-service notice says Pokémon Bank service will end on February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. After the end of service, transfers from Bank to HOME will no longer be possible. Because Nintendo also says Bank is not currently available for download, confirm that you can open the app before investing time in sourcing the other legacy games and hardware. The deadline and service status are time-sensitive; check Nintendo’s current notice before relying on them.

Check which HOME games can use each Pokémon
Arrival in HOME does not make a Pokémon compatible with every linked game. In HOME, open that Pokémon’s details and review “Games it can travel to”; a grayed-out game indicates that Pokémon cannot travel there. Check each Pokémon individually rather than assuming an entire box can go to the same destination.
