How Long Is Order of the Sinking Star, and Can You Save Progress?

Order of the Sinking Star is billed as a game of more than 500 hours for its most dedicated puzzle solvers, but that is not a main-story completion estimate. Official pre-launch information does not specify how the full game saves between sessions. The publisher has confirmed that progress from the demo carries over to the Steam launch version.

How long is Order of the Sinking Star?

Thekla, Inc.’s official FAQ says the game offers more than 500 hours for the most dedicated puzzle solvers. It also describes more than 1,000 interconnected, hand-crafted puzzles across four distinct worlds. Treat the 500-hour figure as an indication of the game’s scale for highly committed players, not as the time required to finish the story.

The official materials do not provide a separate main-story completion estimate, a typical playtime, or a measured average. A July 2026 PlayStation Blog hands-on report likewise describes hundreds of hours and over a thousand puzzles; it does not establish a different completion-time benchmark.

Can you save progress between sessions?

As of October 7, 2026, the official pre-launch sources reviewed do not explain how saving works in the full game. They do not specify autosave frequency or triggers, whether there is a manual save option, or whether save and cloud-sync behavior differs by platform. There is therefore no confirmed basis here for telling players when it is safe to quit or how to save manually.

The publisher’s launch announcement says progress from the demo carries over to the full launch version on Steam. That confirms demo-to-game continuity on Steam; it does not answer how the full game saves during play or establish equivalent carryover or cloud-save behavior on other platforms.

When and where does the game launch?

The publisher scheduled Order of the Sinking Star to launch on October 8, 2026, for PC via Steam and Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5, according to its August 18, 2026 launch announcement. Thekla’s December 2025 announcement also described the game as having more than 1,000 handcrafted puzzles and hundreds of hours of gameplay; those are descriptions of expected scale, not results from a measured playtime study.
