There is no universal LSFG-Android setting that fixes every case of stutter, visual artifacts, or input delay. Start by identifying which symptom you have, checking whether your device is within the project’s stated hardware scope, and changing one control at a time. The Android port uses screen capture and a system overlay—not the Linux Vulkan layer’s swapchain path—so some added latency is an architectural trade-off, not necessarily a setting you can eliminate.

First, identify what is going wrong

“Stuttering,” “artifacts,” and “latency” describe different problems. Treat them separately before changing settings: a pacing problem can look like a frame-generation defect, while added input delay is not the same as an irregular frame cadence.

  • Stutter: motion is uneven, pauses, or appears to skip. It may come from missed frame-render deadlines, irregular pacing, or the frame-generation pipeline.
  • Artifacts: generated frames show image defects such as ghosting, distorted edges, or damaged interface elements. Note exactly where and when the defect appears.
  • Latency: controls feel delayed, or the displayed action trails the input. This is distinct from uneven motion, even though both can make a game feel less responsive.

Before troubleshooting, record your device and GPU, Android version, LSFG-Android build, game or emulator, game frame rate, display refresh rate, selected multiplier, and the symptom. Reproduce the same scene and conditions after each change so you can tell whether it helped.

Check whether your device is within the project’s stated scope

The LSFG-Android project README says its end-to-end operation works on Adreno 7xx-class GPUs and newer. It describes Android 10 (API 29) or newer as the target, with arm64-v8a as the production ABI and x86_64 for emulators. These are project-stated requirements and scope, not a certified list of phones or a performance guarantee for every game. If your device is outside that GPU class, the reviewed documentation does not establish that frame generation will work well on it. See the LSFG-Android project README.

Diagnose stutter before tuning frame generation

Missed rendering deadlines can produce dropped frames that people perceive as stutter. Android Developers recommends visual inspection, Profile GPU Rendering, and Systrace as general ways to investigate Android rendering jank. These tools can help identify app or system rendering problems; they do not, by themselves, diagnose LSFG-Android’s native frame-generation path. See Android’s rendering performance guidance.

Use the result as a clue, not a verdict: if the game or device is already dropping frames without LSFG, frame generation may not be the root cause. If the unevenness appears only with LSFG enabled, compare pacing-related controls one at a time while keeping the game scene and frame-rate conditions constant.

Adjust LSFG-Android controls one at a time

The project lists controls that affect frame generation, pacing, and presentation, but its documentation does not prescribe a guaranteed symptom-to-setting recipe. Make a single change, retest, and revert it if the result is worse. Available controls listed in the project documentation include:

  • For pacing: pacing presets, target FPS cap, queue depth, EMA jitter smoothing, and vsync alignment or slack.
  • For generated-image quality: flow scale and anti-artifacts.
  • For operation and performance: multiplier, performance/HDR mode, and bypass.

These names identify controls to investigate, not confirmed fixes for a particular defect. For example, the README does not say that anti-artifacts will eliminate every ghost or that a particular queue depth will cure stutter. Consult the project documentation for the controls available in your build.

Understand the Android latency trade-off

LSFG-Android uses Android’s MediaProjection screen capture and composites generated frames through a system overlay. According to the project README, non-rooted Android cannot hook another app’s Vulkan swapchain in the way the Linux implicit layer does. The project says this Android path adds roughly 50–80 ms of latency compared with the Linux Vulkan layer. That is the project’s comparison, not a device-by-device benchmark or a delay every player will experience identically. The capture-and-overlay architecture is an Android-specific cost; changing an artifact or pacing control should not be expected to remove it.

The README also says each MediaProjection session requires explicit user consent and displays a persistent system indicator. It describes the app as sideloaded rather than distributed through Google Play. The project states that users must provide a legitimately purchased copy of Lossless Scaling; its DLL is not shipped with the Android repository. These details matter when checking that your setup matches the project’s documented operation.

Use desktop LSFG recommendations only as context

The official Lossless Scaling introduction recommends a 60 FPS in-game baseline with a 120 Hz display for best quality, and says some games can work at 30 FPS with a 60 Hz display up to 1080p. Those are general LSFG recommendations, not a validated LSFG-Android preset. Treat them as context for a controlled test, not a promise that those rates will solve Android stutter or artifacts. Check version-specific notes without assuming a fix

Lossless Scaling’s update notes have addressed frame pacing, ghosting, and artifact-related behavior. Those notes concern the official product and do not establish that a given change applies to a particular LSFG-Android build. Compare the Android build you use with the project’s own release information, and look for a note that specifically matches your version and symptom before treating an update as a fix. See the Lossless Scaling update notes.
