For more Borderlands-style co-op shooting and loot, start with Borderlands 4. If by “Borderlands MMO” you mean a persistent shared world with ongoing activities, try Destiny 2 instead. The Division 2 suits tactical third-person play, while The First Descendant centers co-op action and boss battles. These games overlap with Borderlands in different ways; none is an exact substitute.
First, what do you mean by “Borderlands MMO”?
Borderlands is known for co-op shooting and loot, while “MMO” often means a persistent shared world and continuing activities. Those are different priorities. Choose based on whether you want the Borderlands-style campaign-and-loot feel, a shared world with recurring group activities, tactical third-person combat, or co-op boss encounters.
Best games like Borderlands for co-op looter-shooter fans
Borderlands 4: closest to the Borderlands co-op feel
Borderlands 4 is the most direct pick if you want to stay with the series’ style of co-op shooting and loot. Take-Two/2K says the game was designed for co-op, with instanced loot for each player, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty. That combination is intended to let players progress together even when their characters or preferences differ. The publisher lists versions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. See the official Borderlands 4 page for current platform and edition information.
Destiny 2: best fit for the shared-world interpretation
If the MMO part matters most, Destiny 2 is the clearest match in this group. Bungie describes it as a single evolving world with co-op and competitive activities, including strikes and raids. The game has a free-to-play entry path, but expansions are acquired separately; what is included in the free experience can change. Check Bungie’s Free To Play overview and new-player and platform help before deciding what content you need.
