To set a system-wide preference for smoother motion or higher graphical quality, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets. Then review the accessibility controls under Settings > Accessibility and choose only the options that meet your needs. These are defaults and console tools—not guarantees that every game supports a setting or will behave the same way.
Choose Performance Mode or Resolution Mode
In Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets, select the option that matches your priority. Sony describes Performance Mode as favoring smoother game motion and Resolution Mode as favoring higher graphical quality. The preference takes effect only in games that offer these modes, and the specific result depends on the title. Sony’s descriptions do not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, or improvement for every game. Sony’s guide to PS5 game presets lists the available defaults and their limits.
Review the other PS5 game defaults
The Game Presets screen also lets you set preferences that supported PS5 games may use. A title can ignore a default or provide its own options, so check the game’s settings if a preference does not take effect.
| Preset | What you can set |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | A preferred difficulty for games that support the preset. |
| First-person camera | Horizontal and vertical camera movement preferences. |
| Third-person camera | Horizontal and vertical camera movement preferences. |
| Subtitles and audio | Subtitle and audio-language preferences. |
| Online multiplayer | Preferences for joining sessions and receiving invitations. |
These defaults are useful when several games offer the same choice, but they do not replace title-specific settings. If a game’s menus provide a more suitable camera, language, difficulty, or multiplayer option, use those controls directly.

Which PS5 accessibility settings should you change?
Accessibility is personal: change a setting to address a specific barrier, then try it in the console or game context where you need it. Sony’s PS5 accessibility settings guide describes the available controls and their qualifications.
Remap DualSense buttons
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Controllers to customize button assignments. Try the layout in the game you play; remapping can make a control more comfortable or reachable, but the best arrangement depends on your hands and the game’s controls.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Make the screen easier to see
Under Settings > Accessibility > Display and Sound, you can adjust text size, bold text, high contrast, color filters, and reduced motion. Sony notes that turning on color inversion disables HDR.
To magnify the display, enable Zoom at Settings > Accessibility > Display and Sound > Zoom. Once enabled, press the PS button and square to zoom. Zoom has limitations in some gameplay and media contexts, so test it where you intend to use it.

Use the screen reader
The screen reader reads on-screen text and provides spoken guidance through the console interface. You can adjust its voice speed, type, and volume. It is available only in the languages Sony lists on its support page, so confirm language availability if you rely on it.
Set up captions and chat transcription
PS5 lets you enable and customize closed captions, including their font, color, edge, opacity, background, and window appearance. Sony describes these captions for media; do not assume they will caption dialogue in every game.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Chat transcription can convert voice chat to text and read text chat aloud. In-game chat transcription works only in games that support it, and language options are limited. Check the relevant game and language before relying on the feature.
Choose mono audio for headphones
Enable mono audio for headphones if you want the same audio sent to both the left and right sides. This changes headphone output; it does not establish that all game audio or accessibility needs will be addressed by one setting.

Check a game’s accessibility features before you rely on them
To inspect a game’s listed accessibility details, go to Games home > PlayStation Store, select the game to open its hub, then press the triangle button or open the side panel. Sony’s guide to accessibility features in PlayStation games explains where to find these listings. Use them to check for a specific game-level option, while remembering that the listing is not a substitute for trying the feature yourself.
Do you need a special TV or monitor?
No display upgrade is required to change Game Presets or accessibility settings. Display compatibility matters only if you want to use a display-dependent feature. For variable refresh rate (VRR) with compatible PS5 games, Sony specifies an HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or PC monitor; it also cautions that results vary by display and game. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) is limited to compatible HDMI 2.1 TVs, and PS5 can output 1440p to compatible monitors and TVs. Check Sony’s PS5 1440p and VRR display guidance and your display’s specifications before assuming a feature is available.
