If you want a game with Danganronpa’s mix of investigation and a dramatic confrontation over clues, start with Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE. It has a clear investigation-to-confrontation structure, though it is not the same killing-game premise or class-trial format. Other mysteries may suit you better if you value courtroom cases, group suspicion, supernatural stories, or dangerous ensemble casts.
Which games feel most like Danganronpa?
“Games like Danganronpa” can mean several different things: finding clues before a debate, arguing through a trial, getting attached to a large cast under pressure, or following an anime-styled mystery story. The recommendations below are grouped by what you want to play, rather than presented as interchangeable Danganronpa substitutes.
Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE — the closest match for investigation followed by confrontation
Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE is the strongest starting point if your favorite part of Danganronpa is collecting evidence and then using it in a dedicated showdown. Spike Chunsoft describes investigating Kanai Ward and gathering “Solution Keys,” then entering the “Mystery Labyrinth,” where you use clues to overcome traps and challenge a Mystery Phantom. The Steam description also identifies it as a mystery action game from the minds behind the Danganronpa series. That supports a shared creative lineage and a recognizable investigate-then-confront loop, but not an identical class-trial format or killing-game story. Steam’s RAIN CODE Plus page describes the game and its gameplay.
Spike Chunsoft lists RAIN CODE Plus for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Its catalog gives June 30, 2023 for the Switch release and October 1, 2024 for the other listed platform releases. Edition and storefront availability can vary by region, so check the local store listing before buying. Spike Chunsoft’s games catalog lists the platforms and dates.

- Music by composer Shinji Hosoe - from the Zero Escape series.
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection — for cases and evidence
If you want to investigate cases and reason from evidence, Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is a sensible adjacent pick. Its investigative focus is a different proposition from Danganronpa’s ensemble class trials, so choose it for case-based deduction rather than expecting the same group-debate structure. Nintendo includes it in its mystery-game selection, but that inclusion is not a claim that its trial format matches Danganronpa. Nintendo’s mystery-game roundup names the collection.
AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative — for a story-led mystery
AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative is another option if you are open to a different investigation structure and story. Nintendo lists it among mystery games, but that listing alone does not establish a Danganronpa-style class trial. Approach it as a mystery alternative, not a direct mechanical match. Nintendo’s U.S. roundup and Nintendo Australia’s mystery-game article include the title.

- Music by composer Shinji Hosoe - from the Zero Escape series.
Gnosia — for a mystery with a group-suspicion angle
Gnosia appears in Nintendo’s mystery selections and may appeal if what you want is suspicion among a group. The roundup does not establish that it reproduces Danganronpa’s trial mechanics, so treat it as a broad mystery recommendation rather than a substitute for class trials. Nintendo’s U.S. list and Nintendo Australia’s list name it.
PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo — for supernatural mystery
If the mystery itself matters more than trial mechanics, consider PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. Nintendo includes it in a mystery-game roundup, making it a genre-adjacent choice for readers drawn to supernatural mysteries. The list does not establish how closely its gameplay resembles Danganronpa’s trials. Nintendo Australia’s roundup names the game.

Choose by the part of Danganronpa you want more of
| If you want… | Try… | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| Clue gathering followed by a stylized confrontation | Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE | Investigation, Solution Keys, and Mystery Labyrinth confrontations with Mystery Phantoms, as described by Spike Chunsoft and on Steam. |
| Case investigation and evidence-based deduction | Ace Attorney Investigations Collection | Nintendo lists it as a mystery game; the cited list does not establish a Danganronpa-like class-trial structure. |
| A different story-led mystery | AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative | Nintendo includes it in mystery selections; the listing does not establish class-trial mechanics. |
| Mystery with group suspicion | Gnosia | Nintendo includes it in mystery selections; the cited lists do not establish the details of its mechanics. |
| Supernatural mystery | PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo | Nintendo Australia names it in a mystery-game article; the list does not establish trial similarity. |
These distinctions matter: a mystery-game roundup is evidence that a title belongs to the broader genre, not proof that it recreates Danganronpa’s blend of group debate, murder investigation, and class trials. Nintendo describes its selections broadly as games where players use sleuthing skills to solve mysteries, rather than ranking them by similarity to Danganronpa. Nintendo’s article was published September 10, 2024.

What to check before choosing
- Mechanics: Decide whether you want to gather clues and challenge contradictions, investigate cases, or follow a mystery without a trial-like stage.
- Premise and tone: A shared mystery genre does not mean a game has Danganronpa’s high-stakes ensemble setup. Check the game’s own description if that cast dynamic is essential.
- Puzzle load: The cited descriptions establish RAIN CODE’s investigation and Mystery Labyrinth structure, but do not provide a comparable puzzle-difficulty measure across these games.
- Platform and edition: Availability can differ across regions and storefronts. For RAIN CODE, distinguish the original Switch release from RAIN CODE Plus and verify the current local listing.
