Silent Hill: Townfall is worth buying if you want a first-person psychological horror game built around atmosphere, exploration, stealth, and demanding puzzles. It is a less certain fit if your priority is frequent combat, varied monsters, or puzzles that reliably keep you moving without outside help. The game launched September 24, 2026, for PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
What kind of game is Silent Hill: Townfall?
Townfall is a full-length psychological horror game from KONAMI and Screen Burn Interactive. You play as Simon Ordell, who arrives at St. Amelia, a remote island off the coast of Scotland. It is the first full-length Silent Hill title presented entirely in first person, so exploration, threat encounters, and the use of your tools all unfold from Simon’s perspective. KONAMI’s game information describes a mix of story-driven puzzles, evasion, stealth, and fighting when necessary.
The CRTV is central to exploration
Simon carries a handheld pocket television called the CRTV. Writer-director Jon McKellan of Screen Burn Interactive says it can reveal nearby threats through the environment, pick up signals that uncover story information, and offer guidance through some challenges. It is more than a weapon or menu: raising it while exploring changes what Simon can perceive. McKellan’s PlayStation Blog commentary explains the device’s intended role.
Is Silent Hill: Townfall worth buying for you?
| Likely a good fit if… | Consider waiting or watching more gameplay if… |
|---|---|
| You enjoy slow-burn psychological horror and an atmospheric, fog-bound setting. | You mainly want frequent, satisfying combat. |
| You like exploring spaces, spotting environmental clues, and solving puzzles. | You want consistently easy-to-follow puzzles or dependable guidance whenever you are stuck. |
| Stealth and threat management appeal more than fighting every enemy. | Memorable, varied monster designs are a major reason you play horror games. |
| You are comfortable with first-person horror and a story delivered through exploration. | You need a story that is consistently surprising or character delivery that is the game’s main strength. |
Reviews suggest Townfall is strongest as an atmospheric puzzle-and-stealth horror experience, with less consistent results in combat, enemy variety, and story delivery. PC Gamer’s Elie Gould praised the foggy setting, story, puzzle design, and CRTV, scoring the game 89/100. TechRadar’s Lewis Maddison also highlighted stealth, puzzles, and the Scottish village’s art direction, while criticizing the enemy designs and noting that some sections drag. These are individual reviewers’ judgments, not a guarantee of how every player will respond. PC Gamer’s review and TechRadar’s review provide more detail.

#1 Best Overall
- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
A September 23, 2026 release-week roundup reported a Metacritic score of 81/100 for PS5 and an OpenCritic score of 82/100, with 85% of its OpenCritic sample recommending the game. Those are dated snapshots from that roundup, not permanent or current aggregate figures. PSN.GG’s roundup gives the release-week context.
How long is Silent Hill: Townfall?
TechRadar’s reviewer reported taking just over 20 hours to finish one playthrough at a gentle pace on Normal difficulty. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed completion time; your pace, time spent exploring, and time spent on puzzles can change it. TechRadar’s review is the source for that reported run.

How hard are the puzzles, and what difficulty options are available?
Puzzle difficulty is a meaningful purchase consideration. TechRadar describes the puzzles as demanding. PC Gamer says it took time to adjust to their lateral-thinking style and also mentions a difficult late puzzle. EL PAÍS reviewer Jorge Morla found most puzzles hard but solvable, but said the final puzzle in his experience was exceptionally difficult and could not be solved without help. Those accounts show a risk of getting stuck, especially late in the game, rather than a universal outcome. PC Gamer, TechRadar, and EL PAÍS describe their reviewers’ experiences.
According to TechRadar’s review, enemy difficulty has three settings—Story, Normal, and Nightmare—while puzzle difficulty is a separate two-option setting. The puzzle setting controls whether salient text clues receive red highlights; it does not make every puzzle trivial or remove the need to interpret clues. TechRadar also reports that subtitles and closed captions can be adjusted separately. Its reviewer found no content filters for blood and gore and no color or contrast visual assists. Check the game’s current settings and platform information if a particular accessibility feature is essential to you. TechRadar’s review documents the options it encountered.
