If Silent Hill: Townfall stutters on PC, first install the September 30, 2026 update and confirm the main menu shows version v1.4.153829. The developer says it reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues. If performance is still poor, check your PC against the published requirements, then test settings changes one at a time; the update is not a guarantee against every stutter or low-FPS problem.

1. Install the update for shader-precompilation stutter

The September 30, 2026 Steam Community notice for SILENT HILL: Townfall says: “Reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues.” It asks players to check that the lower-right corner of the main menu displays v1.4.153829. This is the first check if your symptom is brief, recurring stutters during gameplay.

  1. Fully exit Townfall.
  2. Make sure your PC is connected to the internet and Steam is online.
  3. If the game was already running before the update, restart the Steam app so it can check for the update.
  4. Launch the game and check the version in the lower-right corner of the main menu.

These steps follow the official Steam Community patch notice. The notice describes a reduction in one identified cause of gameplay stuttering; it does not claim to fix all stuttering or low frame rates.

2. Work out whether the problem is stutter or low FPS

A stutter is a brief interruption or hitch; low FPS is a persistently low frame rate. They can feel similar, but the patch specifically addresses shader-precompilation stuttering, not every cause of sustained low FPS. Note when the problem occurs and whether it repeats in the same scene. When comparing settings, use the same scene and change only one setting at a time so you can tell whether the change helped.

3. Compare your PC with the published targets

The storefront specifications describe targets, not guaranteed performance for every PC. Steam lists a minimum target of Low settings at 1080p and 30fps, and a recommended target of High settings at 4K and 30fps using DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced mode. These are specification targets, not independent benchmark results.

Component Minimum Recommended
Target Low, 1080p, 30fps (Steam) High, 4K, 30fps using DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced (Steam)
Operating system Windows 11 x64 Windows 11 x64
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-8700K AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or Intel Core i7-9700K
Memory 16 GB RAM 32 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 6600 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT
DirectX Version 12 Version 12
Storage 75 GB; Epic specifies SSD required 75 GB; Epic specifies NVMe

Steam publishes the minimum and recommended configurations in its Townfall support listing; Epic specifies the SSD and NVMe storage requirements in its store listing. Check each component rather than treating one stronger part as proof the whole PC meets a target. Meeting the minimum target does not establish that shader-related stutter is solved.

4. Test performance with reversible changes

If the current version is installed and the PC meets the requirements, use ordinary, reversible graphics tests to isolate rendering load. These are general PC troubleshooting steps, not developer-confirmed Townfall fixes.

  • Lower the resolution or demanding graphics settings and compare the same scene.
  • If you use an upscaler, test one of the listed modes—DLSS, FSR, or TSR Balanced—where available, and compare with your prior setting.
  • Record the setting you changed and whether it affected brief hitches, sustained low FPS, or neither.

A change that improves sustained frame rate may not resolve shader-precompilation stutter. Avoid deleting shader caches or editing configuration files based on unverified advice; the official notice does not prescribe either action.

5. When the issue continues

If the game is updated and controlled settings tests do not clarify the cause, document the displayed game version, your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, storage type, graphics settings, and where the symptom occurs. Use the Steam support listing to reach the game’s official support route. The available patch notice does not document a universal low-FPS fix, and the published specifications do not show that buying a particular component will resolve an individual case.

Release-date note

Townfall is available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. KONAMI gives September 24, 2026 as the release date, while Steam lists September 23, 2026; cite the relevant storefront if the exact date matters.
